Part 11
It was the start of a new day. Dhwani was getting ready to go out with Daksh. They were going to visit a school in Delhi, a school Daksh was the trustee of. She was looking forward to the day. She loved children and couldn't wait to one day have children of her own. Thinking of that made her question herself again. She definitely did want children but could she see herself having children with Daksh so soon? Then she started thinking of the act required to conceive children. If she wasn't attracted to Daksh yet, could they consummate their marriage so soon after the wedding? No, she realised. She would ask for time from Daksh, he would understand. He was her best friend after all. He even said he's willing to wait his whole life for her love and she will gradually fall in love with him after marriage. At least she hoped she would. Getting out of her thoughts, she was dressed in a simple blue salwar suit for the day. She also made sure to put her engagement ring on as she didn't wear it all the time. People should be aware that she is engaged.
When Dhwani was finally ready, Daksh arrived at her door to pick her up. He complimented how pretty she looked. She smiled, appreciating the compliment and said 'Thank you.' They walked to their car, just engaging in general chit chat. As they sat in the car, they also discussed that they need to set a date for their official engagement party. They had already brought their outfits but still no date set. Dhwani said they'll set it after today when they have some free time to look through dates. At the moment, the priority was to visit the school.

Pratap Singh House
Vir woke up in a bad mood and his hand aching from cutting it yesterday. He wondered why he was in the spare room but then remembered the state of his bedroom after he had destroyed it. It had been a long time since he got angry and lashed out like that but it was good to get it out of his system. Now he could concentrate again. However today all he could think about was Juhi and Manas. He was struggling without Bawri but Juhi and Manas were living without a mother or a father. Yes, he wouldn't let Bawri meet them until he convinced her of the truth but until then, he would need to meet them regularly. He did promise he would see them often and to be honest, he felt like he just wanted a hug. A hug from his children, who loved him unconditionally would make his day a lot better. He went and had his breakfast along with Sudha and Veer. Sudha made sure to ask if he was okay and offered to change his bandage for him but Vir stated he could manage himself and again thanked her for her help last night. After Vir had his breakfast, he made a call to the school asking if it would be fine to visit his children today. The receptionist explained that it was fine so long as he came after school hours. With his plan being made, he went and showered to get dressed for the day. Today was all about his children. Bawri could wait one day and it wasn't like she was missing him.
------------------------------
Dhwani and Daksh were walking around the school, getting a full tour. That is when two children noticed Dhwani. They quickly ran to her shouting 'Haathi!'. Both the children came and placed their arms around her legs and not letting go. 'Haathi, you're alive. Why did you leave us?'
Hearing this, Dhwani got alarmed. Do these kids know me from before? Dhwani knew she had to ask so she bent down to the kids height. She wiped their tears and asked if they knew her, which they then replied, 'why are you saying it like that?' Dhwani thought to go about this another way as any children that may know her wouldn't know about her amnesia. However before she could even question them any further. The warden came and dragged them away. She tried to stop the warden but she didn't listen, stating she was just doing her job.
Daksh and Dhwani finished their tour but as they were leaving, Dhwani received a call from Sudha asking to meet up. Dhwani explained this to Daksh and he understood, so he left Dhwani there and went back to his office. Whilst Dhwani was waiting for Sudha to arrive, she thought to take her chance to find out more about the two children that identified her. She went back to the principal's office and asked to meet those children. However she couldn't identify the children's names, ages or anything about them. The principal explained that even if she could identify those children, she wouldn't be permitted to meet them unless she was the children's parent or guardian of which she was neither. So Dhwani lost potentially another chance to find out about her past.
As she left the school premises. She stopped by at a cafe nearby to wait for Sudha. She thought they may as well have coffee at that cafe. When Sudha arrived, Dhwani apologised for her behaviour the previous day. Explaining that the article put her in a bad mood but still that was no excuse for the way she spoke. Sudha accepted her apology and they enjoyed a nice cup of coffee together. Dhwani felt like she had known Sudha a long time, the way they continued talking for ages.
Sudha: You remind me so much of my friend Purvi.
Dhwani: How so?
Sudha: Just the way you talk, your mannerisms. It makes me miss her so much.
Dhwani: I'm sorry to remind you.
Sudha: No, it's okay. It's nice to remember her. She was my best friend. She would do anything for the people she loves and I've realised you're quite similar too.
Dhwani: What do you mean?
Sudha: Okay, I don't want you to think I'm being intrusive but...
Dhwani: But what?
Sudha: I feel like you're not happy.
Dhwani: What makes you think that?
Sudha: Just call it a woman's intuition but I feel that you're like my Purvi, who'll do anything for the people she loves. Even sacrifice your own happiness for the sake of others.
Dhwani: Why? What did Purvi do?
Sudha: Purvi did so much for others. Like marrying Mukhiji so her sister's marriage could happen.
Dhwani: I heard that they didn't know they were marrying the other.
Sudha: That's right. Purvi didn't know whom she was marrying but she was ready to do it just so her sister could marry her boyfriend. My Purvi wanted to educate herself to get her family out of poverty but she sacrificed her dreams. She also saved me from a life worse than death.
Sudha started getting teary as she remembered her past as a molki bride and Purvi's bravery. How she fought against everyone to get her justice. Dhwani placed her hand over Sudha's to try and give her comfort.
Dhwani: I know I can't replace Purvi but I hope I can be a good friend to you and I hope I can have a friend in you.
Sudha: Thank you Dhwani.
As Sudha wiped her tears, Daksh' friend Nishant passed them by. He asked if they were alright and started talking to Dhwani about trying to get Daksh to spend some time with him. He also sat down to join them for coffee. Nishant asked Dhwani about setting a date for their engagement so he could party and also get to see Daksh as he doesn't seem to have time for him. Whilst they were talking, Dhwani received a call from Daksh. She excused herself from the table as she couldn't hear him properly. That left Sudha alone with Nishant. Nishant just made general chit chat with Sudha, asking her if she's enjoying life in Delhi. While they were talking, Veer happened to be driving past and he saw the two together at the cafe. Veer made a call to Sudha but as her phone was on silent, she missed the calls. Veer thought for a moment about confronting Sudha but then thought otherwise. Let her do whatever she wants. Our relationship is a compromise. Veer drove away sadly from there.

Delhi School Hostel
Vir walked towards the hostel. He was looking forward to seeing Juhi and Manas after a long time. Even when he was ignoring them, their naughtiness always made him aware that they were there. Whereas now he was in a quiet house, a peaceful house and so he missed them even more. It was also the realisation that they would have been there if Bawri was there but soon enough all three will be back in his life. He had that much faith in God.
As he went in to the hostel, the warden went and brought the children down. They ran towards him as soon as they saw him. So happy to see him. Seeing them bought a big smile on his face and he needed this. Today, he was going to take the children out for a while. They would feel better as well.
Juhi and Manas gave him a big, joint hug. Like as if they'll never let him go. When they finally released him, he noticed that both were upset.
Vir: Are you not happy to see me?
Manas: No Baba, we're very happy to see you.
Juhi: It's just we need to tell you something.
Manas: We saw Haathi today.
Vir was stunned. How did the kids see Bawri?
Vir: Where?
Juhi: Here, at school. She came today. We ran to her and hugged her but...
Vir: But what?
Juhi: She was acting strange. Like she didn't know us. She asked if we knew her?
This was the exact situation Vir was trying to avoid. Hence why the children were still at the hostel.
Manas: Baba, why did you lie to us? You said Haathi was dead and that she's never coming back but she's here.
Vir: I didn't lie. I was told she was dead. I'll be honest okay. The woman you saw is your Haathi but...
Juhi: But?
Vir: But she doesn't remember us.
Manas: What do you mean?
Vir: She had an accident 6 months ago. She hit her head and now she doesn't remember any of us. She doesn't remember anything.
Juhi: Why didn't you tell us Baba?
Vir: I'm trying to get to know her. Once I become a good friend of hers, I will tell her the truth.
Manas: Can we meet her?
Vir: Not yet Manas. Don't worry I'll bring her to meet you eventually.
Juhi: Please Baba, we won't say anything to her. We just want to see her.
Vir: Okay I will introduce her to you but can I have some time before I do.
J&M: Okay Baba. Pinky promise?
Juhi and Manas raised their small fingers towards Vir. Vir got a quick flashback to when Bawri said the same thing to him. When he promised, he wouldn't fight in front of the kids with her. Then he remembered when he told her off in front of everyone, not just once but several times. He had broken a pinky promise like this before, he wasn't sure whether to keep another one. However he knew he would keep this promise no matter what. He wasn't going to allow Bawri out of their lives. They had lived the last 6 months without her and it was hell. He would get Bawri back, no matter what he would need to do. Vir raised his small finger and did the pinky promise with Juhi & Manas. He needed some reassurance and he got that from the children. His determination was back. He wouldn't give up on his Bawri. Never.

Pratap Singh House
Sudha entered the house smiling. She had got to spend a bit of time with Purvi. It had been a long time since they last spoke like this. As she entered, Veer was sat on the sofa.
Veer: You seem to be in a good mood.
Sudha: Why wouldn't I be? I met Purvi today.
Veer: Is that right?
Sudha: What do you mean? Whatever you want to say, say it clearly.
Veer: Exactly that. Is the smile for meeting Purviji or for someone else?
Sudha: Who else would it be for?
Veer: Maybe it was for a certain Nikhil.
Sudha: Nikhil? (Sudha was confused) Oh you mean Nishant?
Veer: Whatever his name is, yes.
Sudha: Oh yes, he was there as well for a little while.
Veer: I thought you said you were meeting Purviji, so where did this guy come from?
Sudha: Yes, I met Purvi at the shop for coffee. Nishant happened to walk by so he joined us.
Veer: Is that what happened? Be honest.
Sudha: Yes.
Veer: Then can you explain, why I saw both of you at the cafe, no Purviji in sight.
Sudha: Oh. Purvi went to answer a phone call from Daksh so she left us for just two minutes.
Veer: Really?
Sudha: Yes! Ask Purvi if you don't believe me.
Veer: No I don't want to ask Purviji. Especially since it's not been two days since the last scandal with our family. Now you're out and about with another man. Yes, we don't have a proper marriage but you are married to me. At least think of my reputation.
Sudha: How dare you Veer? I didn't go out to meet another man. He just happened to be there and he said hi. Purvi asked him to sit with us. Trust me Veer.
Veer: Trust. And You. (Veer laughed) How can I trust you when you married me by deceit!
Sudha: I know and I've apologised so many times. If I could change it I would.(Tearfully)
Veer: Well you can't change it. I can never trust you. By marrying me, you got me but you can never win my heart because I can never trust you to let you come close to me.
Sudha: Then what is the point in continuing this meaningless relationship? If you're so miserable, then I'm ready to leave you. I'll stay until Purvi comes back, then I'll leave. You can get the formalities done.
Veer: Sudha. You've taken it in another direction.
Sudha: But it's the truth. You can never let me near you. Then we can never be a proper husband-wife, so there's no point in continuing like this. I free you from this relationship and my responsibilities. I'm sorry Veer for every hurt I've caused you. I hope one day you can forgive me.
Sudha walked away in tears. She had finally had enough. She was wrong to betray him the way she did and she was trying to make up for it by being a good wife and friend. She wished she didn't give in to the pressure by Purvi but on the other hand, if she didn't sit at the mandap that day. Veer's life would have been ruined by Priyasi. She wished she could have found an alternative way to stop the marriage without betraying Veer but she couldn't change the past. She could however free Veer from this relationship and give him his freedom. Her mind had finally been made up and she would stay until Purvi came back and took over her responsibilities again.
On the other hand Veer was left speechless. All he had asked was what she was doing with Nishant in the cafe? How did that escalate? He was finally getting round to accepting Sudha as his wife, he had become accustomed to her. Hence when he saw her and Nishant together, he got angry. He didn't like the thought of some other male spending time with his wife. He was jealous but his words came out in a wrong way. Now Sudha wanted to leave him. Truth is he had accepted the betrayal and the consequences of it but he couldn't forget and in that one moment, his anger came out. He would need to win Sudha over. Start with a new clean slate. He didn't love her yet but maybe he could in the future but for now, he was used to her and that was enough for him.
------------------------------
The next few days went by in a blur. Daksh and Dhwani had finally set a date for their official engagement and they were sending invitations out. They needed to send an invite to Mukhiji but the thought of facing Mukhiji still scared Dhwani as she didn't think she was over her attraction to him yet. She kept dreaming of him more or less every night and they were very vivid dreams too. Seeing her and him sharing a cup of tea. Them playing holi together. Him massaging her back. She blushed as she remembered that dream. She couldn't explain the reasons for such dreams. Why is he in my thoughts all the time and when I sleep as well? Could I be in love with Mukhiji? She thought to herself. No that can't be it. I'm just attracted to him. Getting him out of her thoughts as she did so often, she got ready for work as normal. Mukhiji and his invite could be dealt with some other day.
On the way back from Daksh' office. It was raining very heavily and Dhwani was struggling to get an auto. It looked like the roads were going to start flooding any moment now. Dhwani thought it would be safer to actually try and walk back to her apartment before the weather got any worse. As she was walking, a white jeep came and stopped right next to her. The window rolled down to reveal the man of her dreams, Mukhiji.
Vir: Dhwani are you okay?
Dhwani: Yes, I'm fine. Just making my way home.
Vir: Walking in this weather? Look I'll drop you home in my car. If you walk all the way, it will get dark by the time you get home.
Dhwani: No it's fine. I'll call Daksh.
Vir: Why bother him now. I'm here, I'll drop you off.
Dhwani considered the situation. Yes she was avoiding Mukhiji but maybe it was safer to get him to drop her off. After considering this, she said yes and got into the car with Mukhiji. As they drove in silence towards Dhwani's apartment, Vir noticed that she avoided looking at him. Why is she avoiding me? Vir apologised to Dhwani over what happened in the hotel room and that he was happy Daksh had sorted everything as he didn't want her reputation tarnished because of him. Dhwani was thankful for his apology. She knew he is a good man and if it wasn't for her feelings, she wouldn't have been avoiding him. She also noticed his hand was bandaged. She asked him about it but he just said a glass broke in his hands. That was all he said about it. No further clarification as to how a glass broke in his hands. She was concerned but she knew not to ask any more as Mukhiji's answers were short and it seemed like he didn't want to be asked about it any further. I wonder how he really hurt his hand? Letting that go, Dhwani was just wondering when her eyes fell upon Vir's phone which was placed in the middle of the car. She noticed the lock screen with two children at the front. She recognised the children from the school, the ones that called her Haathi.
Dhwani: Are these your children?
Vir: Yes, that's Juhi and Manas.
Dhwani: I met them a few days ago, when I visited their school. They came and hugged me, calling me Haathi. At first I was surprised and thought they might know me from my past but...
Vir: But what?
Dhwani: I guess they made the same mistake you did. They probably thought I'm their mother. You said she looked a lot like me. If you could make a mistake, then they are just children.
Vir: Yes, you do look similar. Juhi and Manas really loved her. They called her Haathi as a pet name.
Dhwani: That's so sweet... Ermmm...
Vir: What?
Dhwani: Would I be able to see a picture of Purviji? I know you said, you don't have a picture of her but surely someone else would. Like Sudha or Veer?
Vir: I don't know.
Dhwani: I just want to see the similarities between Purviji and me. To see how much she looked like me to cause you all to mistake me for her.
Vir didn't know how to answer that question but he didn't have to as Vir's car broke down due to the bad weather. Vir got out of his car to see what the problem was. He opened the bonnet but he knew it was something he couldn't fix it and nor could he get a mechanic now in this weather. Dhwani was waiting in the car and Vir signalled to say the car wasn't going to start. Dhwani then stated they were only a few minutes away from her apartment so they decided to walk the rest of the journey.
As it was raining and they had no umbrella, both were getting drenched. They started walking as fast as they could to get to her apartment.
Once outside her apartment, Vir said he will go but seeing the weather and the fact that he had no car. Dhwani insisted on him coming inside, at least until the weather gets a little better so he could arrange for an auto or someone to pick him up. 'It isn't safe to be outside in this weather.' Hearing the concern in Bawri's voice for him, Vir gave in and went inside the apartment with her.
Upon entry into the apartment, Dhwani asked Mukhiji to wait while she went and got a towel for him. Towel in hand, Dhwani came back to the main seating area where Mukhiji was. She handed the towel to him, asking him to dry himself off before he fell ill. She also asked him to place his clothes to one side and she would arrange for them to be dried. Mukhiji thanked her and she left to go change her clothes. She didn't want to fall ill either.
Dhwani changed into a salwar suit and as she was drying her hair, she thought of the potential consequences of her actions. She had been a part of a scandal with Mukhiji, with them being in the same room and now she herself invited him into her apartment. However she had good reason to do so. Mukhiji had helped her get home safely and if he couldn't get to his home, it was her duty to give him shelter. Plus Daksh trusted her. It wasn't like she was doing anything wrong. With that thought leaving her head, she went to check on Mukhiji.
Dhwani came out of her room to where Mukhiji was. She noticed he had taken off his kurta and was in the process of taking off his vest. Dhwani screamed and Mukhiji flinched in surprise. Instantly Dhwani covered her eyes with her hands. Vir saw her and he remembered how Bawri always covered her eyes when he was shirtless. He smirked at the memory and seeing the same reaction now. Vir still took his vest off, her reaction didn't bother him and it was getting uncomfortable in the wet clothes. Dhwani didn't know what possessed her to uncover her eyes but she did just that. She looked directly at Mukhiji. His bare body was on display and glistening due to the water droplets. Mukhiji hadn't wiped himself down yet. She couldn't stop looking at him. She found herself walking towards him.
Dhwani approached Mukhiji and took the towel from him. She proceeded to dry his hair with it, moving the towel back and forth. She then wiped his face, gently dabbing his face. From his face she went towards his shoulders, then his back and finally his chest. When she got to his chest, she sighed loudly, she was blushing. Vir could tell she was getting affected by his proximity and he couldn't deny the feeling was mutual. How long he had waited to be this close to his Bawri.
Dhwani dabbed his chest and then slowly slid the towel from one spot to another. Once she had finished patting him dry, she dropped the towel. One hand of hers automatically went to his chest, she could feel his heart beating fast through her hand. Her other hand went on his shoulder blade. With Bawri having made the first move, Vir wasn't going to hold back. Both of Vir's hands went on her waist, holding her in place. Dhwani looked up at Mukhiji's face, she could see the desire and hunger in his eyes. She blushed again and looked down. Vir used his fingers to tilt her head upwards by holding her chin. As they stood there, looking at each other, a few of Dhwani's hair strands came in front of her face. Vir tucked those strands behind her ear, like he always did in the past. They were both standing so close, the tension electric. Dhwani slowly moved her hand from his shoulder onto his hair and clutched his face to bring him closer to her. Their faces were centimetres away and Vir bought his lips closer to hers. Dhwani closed her eyes in anticipation. Vir's nose touched hers and their lips were about to meet in a kiss…
