Twinkle Khanna is back in the news after a remark from her talk show Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle sparked criticism online. The conversation, which involved Kajol, Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor, led to a wider debate on infidelity, with viewers accusing Twinkle of dismissing physical cheating. She has now responded to the backlash, saying her line was meant in a playful tone and not as a moral position.
In a chat with The Times of India, Twinkle addressed the criticism directly. Speaking about her “raat gayi baat gayi” line, she said she was surprised that a casual moment from a fun segment was being treated like a serious argument. “It was part of a light-hearted game. It was not meant as a serious debate,” she said.
She explained that her views would have been very different if the discussion had been structured as a real conversation about relationships. Twinkle said, “If it had been a serious debate, then I would have said that we need to evaluate where monogamy as a construct… when we moved from a nomadic lifestyle to farming, and then, you know, a man and his claim over his offspring came into being versus monogamy truly being something that helps society thrive and holds it together. That is a serious debate. This was just a joke and it was a light-hearted moment.”
The controversy began after the October episode featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Karan Johar. The hosts asked a question that often divides opinion: “Which is worse, emotional cheating or physical cheating?” While Kajol, Karan and Twinkle suggested that physical cheating could be forgotten over time, Janhvi disagreed completely. Twinkle used the phrase “raat gayi, baat gayi” to explain that some people may choose to move on eventually. Janhvi immediately countered, “Baat nahi jaati,” making her stance clear. Viewers sided with Janhvi and criticised the others for appearing casual about betrayal.
Two Much With Kajol and Twinkle continues to feature candid conversations with guests ranging from film stars to sport personalities. The show streams on Prime Video and has hosted Salman Khan, Aamir Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Alia Bhatt, Kriti Sanon, Akshay Kumar and others.
