I'm back with another story on PurVir. This one is a little longer than my previous ones, should be around 3 parts. The shock of Vir slapping Purvi hit me so hard that I couldn't rest till I wrote out a redemption for him and that is how this one emerged. Hope you enjoy it.

Feedback & comments welcome, as usual😊

PART 1

After the fiasco at Purvi's bday party, Vir walked out of the haveli and roamed around aimlessly for hours, not knowing or caring where he was going. He just wanted to get away from everyone and everything. He could not imagine how Purvi could do this to him. He knew she had said that she cannot love him, but hadn't she also said that she respected him? If only she had come to him and told him that she loved someone else, he would have let her go. Why did she have to make such a public spectacle of him, why put him thru this humiliation? And that too because of that Chaurasia's son? Vir stopped near a rundown cottage when he couldn't walk anymore...he just sat against the wall and wailed, wanting the pain to go away. How was he ever going to live thru this?

At the haveli, Purvi was in no better condition. She couldn't believe what had happened at the party. That video which Karan showed...she felt disgusted! And Mukhiji, how could he believe the video? He never gave her a chance to say anything in her defence. Did he really think so badly of her that he believed her capable of such behaviour? She knew that he could never love her like he loved Sakshiji, but she thought that he at least respected her? Purvi cried her heart out, she thought that even though she was a molkki she had found happiness and respect in her husband's eyes. But she was wrong...Mukhji neither trusted nor respected her. Every time something wrong happened, it was she who got blamed & punished...she had to face a trial by fire and prove her innocence every single time. She allowed her self a few more hours of self pity, before she braced herself for the battle ahead. This time Mukhji had crossed his limits...she would tolerate everything but questioning her character was something she could not forgive. Once again, she would prove her innocence...but unlike earlier times, this time she would not forgive those who had tried to besmirch her reputation.

After the party, Vir did not come back home for a few days, instead he stayed at the Panchayat office even at night. The kids had been inconsolable, not understanding what had happened between their haathi and babbar sher. Yogi, Priyu and Mama Sarkar tried their best to look after the children but they were also unable to answer their questions.

In the meanwhile, both Vir and Purvi were busy doing their own investigation into the video and its authenticity. While Purvi of course was sure the video was doctored, she didn't know how Karan had managed to do it. On the other hand, once Vir had calmed down and the haze of rage had lifted, he realised what a monumental error he had made. He mentally beat himself for not trusting Purvi and worse, raising his hand on his wife. He didn't know how he was going to get out of this mess he had created but right now he didn't have the time to think about that. The most important thing right now was to find out how that Karan had trapped Purvi and made that video. Being the sarpanch had it's own perks and it was much easier for Vir to get to bottom of things. However, he also wanted Purvi to regain her self respect, and so he fed her information and steered her in the correct direction thru one of his informers.

Three days later Vir came back to the haveli. On seeing him, Purvi went straight to her room and came down with her bags. Purvi, "Hum aap hi ka intezaar kar rahe the. Har baar ghar mein kuch ho jaate hai aur hume apne aap ko sahi sabit karna padta hai. Saamne chahe Kallo Tayi ho, Vaibhav ho ya phir Karan, agni pareeksha toh hume hi deni padti hai. Par ab bas, hum thak chuke hai aapko saboot dete dete. Hum aaj hi iss ghar se jaa rahe hai."

Vir was too stunned to react. He knew Purvi would be very angry, and rightfully so, but he had never imagined that she would leave the house. Before he could pull himself together to stop her, Juhi & Manas came running towards them. Kids, "Baba, aap kahan the itne dino se, humne aapko kitna miss kiya." Inspite of being very young, both children were very perceptive and quickly caught on to the tense atmosphere. On seeing the bags in Purvi's hands, they clung to her and started crying, "Haathi tum ne promise kiya tha ki tum hume chod kar kabhi nahi jaaogi. Please mat jao."

Looking down at the crying kids, Purvi realized that she could not leave them like this, she at least had to talk to them & prepare them before going. She gathered both of them in her arms and consoled them. Once they quieted down she sent them to their room and turned to Vir.

Vir, "Bawari..."

Purvi, "Mat kahiye hume bawari. Aap woh haq kho chuke hai." Vir stepped back as if he had been slapped.

Purvi, "Do hafte...bas do hafte chahiye hume, ki hum apne aap ko bekasoor sabit kar sake, tab tak hum ruk jaate hai. Iss tarah hum bachchon ko bhi samjha sakte hai. Par tab tak hum bachchon ke saath hi rahenge."

Vir again tries to talk to her, "Meri baat toh sunn..."

Purvi, "Ab bhi kuch kehna baaki hai kya? Aap ko jo kehna aur karna tha, woh aap party mein kar chuke. Ab hum mein aur sunne ki himmat nahi hai." And she walks away.

Thanks Asma!! I still have my fingers crossed for a half-decent closure to this...Vir is the sort of guy who always owns up to his mistakes...and here he has erred so grossly that the makers just cannot show just a simple apology

Here's part 2. I am not happy with this one at all...I find it very difficult o write angst. Also, this part is very heavy on dialouges, making it a little tedious to read

Note: Vir is quite OOC here, but the situation he is in, I think he may become more emotional than usual

PART 2

The next two weeks were the longest weeks the haveli had ever seen. Even after Sakshi's death the atmosphere had not been so tense. Purvi was out of the house on most days, busy with trying collect proofs of her innocence, and she also wanted to avoid Vir as much as she could. Vir, on the other hand, had holed himself up in their bedroom, refusing to step out. His guilt was consuming his entire being…how could he have behaved like this? There was no excuse for such deplorable behaviour. Purvi had breathed life back into his existence, filling his black and white life with the warm colors of love and family. It was true that he had also supported & cherished her, but in his opinion he was the blessed one in their relationship. And yet, with this action of his, he had wiped out all the trust & respect between them. He had always looked down upon people who resorted to physical means to make their point, but in a moment of frustration, he also did the same. Virendra Pratap Singh had been weak enough to physically assualt his wife!

Vir's guilt & desperation hung over the haveli like a dark cloud, sucking out all the happiness. The children had also become clingy & cranky, crying at the slightest. Mama Sarkar was sure that if only Purvi & Virendra spoke to each other, the situation could be improved but that didn't seem to be happening anytime soon. So one evening he decided to take things into his own hands and speak to both of them. Mama Sarkar knocked on the door of Vir's room and entered. It was difficult to make out anything in the room, it was dark outside but Vir had not switched on the lights. As his eyes grew used to the dark, Mama Sarkar found Vir sitting on the floor staring into nothingness.

Mama Sarkar, "Viren?" Vir did not appear to have heard, so he called again. This time Vir looked up but did not give any other reaction.

Mama Sarkar, "Viren, yeh kya halat bana rakhi tu ne apni? Chal uth, uth aur kuch kha le."

Vir, "Manne bhook na hai, Mama sarkar. Aap log khana kha lo. Manne akela chod do bas"

Mama Sarkar, "Nahi, ab aur akela nahi chodoonga main tujhe. Itne din akela hi choda tha, yeh soch kar ki tu theek ho jayega, par ab nahi. Chal uth kar yahan baith, mujhe tujhse baat karni hai."

Vir got up reluctantly and sat on the bed. Mama Sarkar, "Viren, main jaanta hoon tu apne aap se bahut naraaz hai, tujhse galati huyi hai beta, par aaise aapne aap ko saza de kar kya ho jayega? Kya sab theek ho jayega pehle jaise?

Mama Sarkar, "Har galati ki maafi hoti hai, Viren. Abhi Purvi bahut gusse mein hai, jab uska gussa shaant toh woh tujhe zaroor maaf karegi. Par tu mujhe yeh bata, kya koi aur bhi baat hai? Tu unn logon mein se na hai, jo apni patni par chod kisi aur par bharosa kare. Zaroor kuch aur bhi hua hai, jiski wajah se tu ne iss tarah apna aapa kho diya."

Vir looked at Mama Sarkar with tears in his eyes. He badly wanted to tell everything to him, unburden himself to someone, maybe if he shared then he would be able to breathe again.

Mama Sarkar, "Bol beta, har cheez dil mein daba kar rakhna theek na hai. Mujhe bata kya baat hai. Main sab theek kar doonga."

Hearing such words of reassurance, Vir broke down completely. He opened his heart up and shared everything with Mama Sarkar - his suspicions about Karan, Purvi's confession and then retraction, his insecurities, and also how he had observed Purvi & Karan together. Once he started talking, Vir found that he could not stop till he said everything. Mama Sarkar also did not interrupt him, and once Vir stopped talking, he just pulled Vir close and hugged him. Vir sobbed his heart out, he had not realized how much he had kept inside him. Mama Sarkar just held him, knowing that Vir needed to get all this anguish out of his system before he could heal. On looking down, Mama Sarkar realised that Vir had cried himself to exhaustion and had fallen asleep. He just laid Vir down and covered him with a blanket. Mama Sarkar sighed, he had been away for just a month or so but so much had happened here. He looked at Vir sleeping and gave a small smile, underneath that tough exterior, he could still see the same young boy he had first met after his sister's marriage. Even at that age, Viren was used to bottling his emotions which would then explode out some day...some things never changed! As Mama Sarkar stepped out of Vir's room, he decided that to speak to Purvi immediately. Though Vir was more at fault, there were several things if Purvi had done differently, all this mess could have been avoided.

Mama Sarkar went to the kids' room and asked Purvi to come out. He took her to a secluded part of the garden where they would not be overheard. As he was wondering how to broach this topic with her, Purvi got a little worried seeing him so serious.

Purvi, "Kya baat hai, Mamaji? Aap hume yaha kyun le kar aaye hai?"

Mama Sarkar, "Mujhe tujh se tere aur Viren ke baare mein baat karni hai." On hearing this Purvi got up saying, "Mamaji please, agar aap Mukhji ki tarafdaari karna chahete hai, toh hume kuch nahi sunna."

Mama Sarkar looked at her a little sternly and said, "Baith ja, meri baat abhi khatam na huyi." Once Purvi sat back, he started talking.

Mama Sarkar, "Main jaanta hoon Viren se bahut badi galati huyi hai. Usse kabhi tujh par haath nahi uthana chahiye tha. Par woh uss baat ke bahut sharminda hai. Kya tu maaf nahi kar sakti Viren ko?

Purvi, "Nahi Mamaji. Iss baar humse yeh umeed mat rakhiye ki hum Mukhiji ko maaf kar denge. hum se nahi hoga."

Mama Sarkar, "Tujhe pata hai Purvi, maine tujhe kyun chuna Mukhiyayni banane ke kiye? Kyunki tu ek bahut samajdaar aur zimmedaar ladki hai, jise sahi-galat ki, insaano ki bahut achchi pehchaan hai. Aaj ussi samajdaari ki tujhe bahut zaroorat hai. Jo main tujhe batane ja raha hoon, usse dhaan se sunn, samajh, aur phir faisla kar, ki kya sahi hai aur kya galat."

Purvi gets astonished as Mama Sarkar shares everything with her that he has learnt from Vir. Purvi, "Par Mamaji, Mukhiji ne hum se kabhi kuch kaha kyun nahi, kabhi khul kar baat kyun nahi ki?"

Mama Sarkar, "Viren ko apne dil ki baat kehna nahi aata. Hamesha ghar mein sabse bada raha hai, bahut choti umar mein poore parivaar aur gaon ki zimmedari usne sambhali hai, apne baare mein sochne ka mauka hi nahi mila usse. Main yeh nahi keh raha ki tera gussa jayaz nahi hai, bilkul hai. Main bas itna chahta hoon ki tu ek baat yaad rakhe...logon ne bhale hi Viren ko bhagwan ka darza diya hai, par aakhir hai toh woh ek insaan hi. Aur insaano se galatiyaan ho jaati hai. Aage teri marzi." And Mama Sarkar went inside, leaving Purvi alone with her thoughts.

Purvi sat alone in the garden for a long time after Mama Sarkar left. She had never realised how much Vir had been hurting because of her, she knew that he disliked Karan but was not aware that Vir had seen her in the boys hostel. Everything suddenly fell into place and made sense...Vir's irritability, his aloofness, his anger. She understood his anger much better now, and also her own follies which had led to this situation. However, she was still furious with Vir for slapping her and was not ready to forgive him so easily.
