Was reading abt this discussion in Jo's update..and have been mulling over it, so thought it credits to be made a new post.
Why does Raj keep referring to Kranti as 'Aap'? Because she is a widow? Or because she is a woman?
Earlier, K used to be 'kabhi aap, kabhi tum'.. Now she has firmly put him down with 'tum' and he has put her on the pedestal.
Why??

Dew, though I am not sure if I remember correctly, but he has always addressed her as aap... and is continuing with it. He is a more of an etiquette kind of person ... and polished. On the other hand, Kranti is the local girl, friends with krantikaris... so her way of addressing is different...

And, since ... she has no respect whatsoever for R, and complete hatred... she is using Tu more to insult him... my opinion.

True.............. to him, she was always aap ...........
Like An said ........... its etiquette ........ second nature to him .........
I dont think it has anything to do with her being a widow / woman ......... He adresses men that way too ........ except Sanjay who is a pal ..........
Now post-mariage its more pronounced (like you said almost palcing her on a pedestal) ........
Becos .........he respects the position she holds .....viz. that of his wife and bahu of the family......
Kranti ..... it used to be "kabhi aap kabhi tum" ........
Masti me aur izzat me ..........
then he became the cause for all her suffering ...........
and now it'll remain "tu" till he redeems himself and earns his pedestal.........

Nice topic Ena.......
Hmmmmm & good point here Numero.
I don't think he calls her aap with a thought....I think it's just his natural way of addressing
everyone, specially an acquitance-stranger....the lucknowi andaaz!!!!!
Isn't it true even with us, atleast I always start my conversation with someone i have just met on
aap basis....
As I know a person better I move to tum.......Tu is a rather casual way of addressing...
which is an upbringing thing...
Like I still won't say tu to any of my freinds...it's tum!
Tying this to the mudda.....I thinks as Numero said, Kranti is local....KK girl....she would be on tum basis with most...
But since her hatred for Raj is so obvious....I think addressing him as tu or tum is putting him to place mentally!

An, Dawn.. I think I agree with the two of you.. for Raj, its breeding.. even I cannot remember if he has called her 'tum'..tho i have a lingering doubt he must have, sometime..
But I wait for the time when he will..for instance, I really like the precap, while still continuing to address her as 'aap' he's starting to feel, and show, the authority of a husband..
He might come around to calling her 'tum', not might, he WILL come around..but Kranti wud always continue with 'tum' too..
Match of equals.. 😊

You are right Nups.. which leads to another thought.. that familiarity which transcends 'aap' into 'tum' has still not set in for Raj.. the distance is still there.. hence the form of address.
I dont think Kranti has ever called him 'tu' .. but she has been using 'tum' with a vengeance for quite a while now.. last use of 'aap' was when she used to rant at him with her stdd opening salvo, "Sharm nahi aati aapko? "
But ever since her marriage to the oldie, he has permanently become 'tum' . Hatred and anger is one reason, the other is, she was a step senior to him in relationships.. she was a married woman, he was single.

Addressing her as "aap" and then treating her like dirt. The equation badly fails somewhere. 🤢 And I totally agree with Numes.

All said and done I think if a person addresses someone as "Aap" then it definitely shows his class actually😳..
For Example...If u see two filmi characters Munnabhai and King Akbar😛...Munnabhai will even address his own dad with "Tum"..so leave the rest😆...whereas when it comes to the Shehenshah he will address even his servant with "Aap"😳..
I think Rajveer belongs to those high society Lahori family where even your enemy is addressed with complete respect👏...
And as everyone said Kranti is a typical Krantikari girl who respects only those people who hv complete respect for their Motherland😃...So people like Takla and Raj comes under the "tum" and "tu" category😉😆...and mayb the invisible man Shubu will come under "Aap" category😃..
On another note I agree with Nupur...Sometimes when u r too formal with a person...especially some outsider..u address him/her with "Aap"..which means Raj still considers Kranti as a outsider😭...But this also means Kranti doesn't consider him as a outsider anymore😲😉..because I remember when Kranti was working under Raj in the court office that time she used to address him as "Aap"😛 but now after marriage it has changed to "Tum"😳...Now Kranti needs to b consistent with her "Aap" and "Tum" stuff😡...its like "Pal mein masha...and pal mein tola"😆😳

Hmmm...Skepti but Raj never treated Kranti like dirt😕...I mean look at the history...Raj backstabbed Prem Babu then he gave death sentence to Sohan tauji and trapped her Mamaji but in all this he had not provided any direct harm to Kranti😳..its just that unfortunately all these people were related to Kranti and so she had to bear the brunt by getting married to the Buddha thanks to her own Mamiji😡..
As far as I remember...Raj sometimes even helped Kranti indirectly...like for example ...When Kranti went to stab Raj that night..he was strong enough to hold on to her and even put her in jail but he never ever mentioned to anybody regarding Kranti's stabbing fiasco😉😆...And second time if u remember when that fiersome firing was going on between the britishers and the KKs,it was Raj who without thinking about his own life came out of his car and saved her life by asking her to bend down😳...So we can't overlook these two instances na😳..
Its just that in the past few weeks Raj was under tremendous pressure from his own father regarding that RB-Title😡..and the reason why he always ignored Kranti's pain..but I never felt that Raj deliberately ever wanted to put Kranti in trouble...only their routes and POVs never match...
The reason why he still is showing so much respect to Kranti by addressing her "Aap" and also offering her to sleep on the bed😉😛
