You are absolutely right Nupur.. and yes I love that part too.. " Dominique was the woman for a man like Roark" This one is my most favorite novel till date, and Roark my dream man.. not that he wud be mine alone.. 😉
Dawn was right in her comparison too.. Raj is like Darcy too, in many ways..a more egocentric character than Darcy, but that wud be the difference b/w a soap and a book. You can stretch and mould characters in a serial, not a book.
Coming back to Fountainhead, the recipes for hate and attraction, both are there.. and am sure, love is parcel wrapped somewhere inside Raj too..his game of oneupmanship is so sorely targeted against Kranti.. always.. he just doesnt let her out of his head. Deliberately.

This is what the storyline seems to be shaping into. Howard Roark and Domique (Fountainhead) were the most bitter of enemies in the public eye, and they were most attracted to each other behind the scenes.

It dint take Roark more than two meetings to get into Dominique's bed ( though she interestingly called it Rape) . Later Dominique married Keating and then Wynand, in her heart she always belongs to Roark. She publicly does everything to damage and destroy his career. But he is aware of this, and after every public battle, he goes to her house at night.
Their relationship is the benchmark. But R-K are similarly involved. NOT to that level ( he is definitely not going to her room at night right now, 😉) but eventually, I dont count that out too. Raj is mightily obsessed as of now.. even tho he doesnt know it yet. When he knows it, and starts acting on it, it wud be fun to watch.
What prompts this post- Everything. Raj's behavior, till this point.
He knows everything abt Kranti, but always hides it from the public eye. And yday, he first baited mamaji by saying he wud announce Kranti's name in the court, and then cleverly manipulated it the other way round, knowing that mamaji wud DEFINITELY fall for it, if he withheld Kranti's name. Clever Raj, very clever.
He will never let his personal battle with Kranti come into the limelight. Even if he ends up marrying Lajjo (somehow I think, he will) ; his fixation with Kranti wud continue.

Lajjo and Raj together...oh no dew...
Agree with u totally that Raj is already being smitten by Kranti. Not may be only because of her looks but her attitude, her confidence, her enthusiasm, courage, belief in her views, her commitment to her near and dear ones and to her country.LOVE this love-hate relationship of RK.Raj has for the first time may be met an indian girl who is so dynamic and confident, this has obviously caught his attention.😊
Very nice example dew👏...but my heart says that he should accept his Love...i guess he would soften up when he realises a strong feeling of pain and restlessness(pain of love...)inside his heart.....😳
Aww...me already in dreamland about Raj holding Kranti's hand like in the title song and then a loooooooong eye-lock😳

Thanks for liking our posts Annie.. I guess we are just fanatical abt the book, and the comparisons stem from that.

The book is great one....sure thing!
It is one of those books that changes the way you think or causes you to question your thoughts.
This book and it's characters are hauntingly convincing. It hits your mind and the soul.
It agitates, stimulates and provokes you to think… question… think again!!!
The Fountainhead is the best fictional work and also the best love story I have ever read.
The transcending love it depicts.....makes me go weak on my knees!
.
I find, Roark's most striking statement that contradicted all his other statements was his admission to Dominique, "I LOVE YOU." I found it so glaring an expression coming from him. Love and submission is exactly against his militant beliefs about his selfishness, ego.
Love = sacrifing yourSELF to other Self, that is anti- Self.....and yet he succumbs to it.....
Makes me wonder what kind obsession this was....Howard Roark is one of a kind, this love story and odd courting, passionate romance with Dominique is wild......
Oh I can go on & on....
hope they show some shades of it in Raj-Kranti love story....
Asking for too much.....oh I know!!!

Yup. Nupur is absolutely right. This has to be the most imperfect, flawed, yet the most powerful love story ever written. And its not just a love story. Its a school of thought !! One, which you read in your teenager years, marks you for life. Every other book pales in comparison.
And I agree yet again with Nupur, coming from Roark, " I love you" becomes a completely different statement. Dominique was the only person Roark loved. Him feeling love for her is in itself Dominique's biggest achievement in life...at the risk of sounding chauvinistic.
And I strongly feel, R-K story is taking out leaves from this epic.. I can sense it in their character sketches, the other way round.

Yipeeeee ....... first i get to meet fellow-fans of P&P and now Fountainhed ............. this is too much yaar .......* wiping tears of joy *
I tell you guys .... i've never had such wonderful discussions .... even F2F before ..................
What is it about "Mohe Rang de " that makes us pour out our hearts in our posts .............. one word ... man...... AWESOME .............
Coming back to Fountainhead ..... I agree .... its one of a kind ..... most stimulating ..... and best of all ...... it hits you so hard ..... that it forces a paradigm shift in your concept of LOVE and Romance ....... The characters ........... you begin to live and breathe with them .......
Who else but a Woman could write such a brilliant book ????
3 cheers to Ayn Rand !!!!!!

Trying to compare the two, and I am damn bad at that but still giving it a try.

I read Fountainhead some six years or so ago, at that time found it quite inspiring and I was all set to create a mark on this world--but it never happened that is another story 😆 😆😆. My memory cells do not last long, so cannot go in the details lest I give an incorrect account—and I no longer remember if Roark became my dream man—but I loved Roark's individualism, conviction and the belief in his own ability.

Same with Dominique, in spite of all her flaws, she was one strong female, and I love and admire the trait of strength in both women and men. That is my fondness for the character like Kranti, who does sit in a room crying over her misery. For me, at present, character of Raj does not have that streak.

I believe that two people of equal energy make a happy life, and in most of the cases it does not happen, thus the confusion in a relationship. These Fountainhead characters were people of equal energies, and even they knew it.

Here, in the RK story, I agree, both are attracted to each other and are of equal energies. Once they recognize the fact, it will be fireworks, but at present they are oblivious to it.

On the third level, Fountainhead is also a fight between two ideologies, a capitalist mind and a communist mind. Though in the book this fight is between Roark and Toohey, in MRD, one can also see an ideological fight between R and K.

One believes in freedom for the nation and giving power to the locals, other is of the staunch belief that inhabitants do not have the acumen to rule thus we are better off by outsourcing that work to the Britishers.

...............

Today, I am not sure, if I can read it again as have moved to other stories. And, MD and Nupur, most of literature purist, find Fountainhead a substandard work. But, one cannot deny that it has inspired millions of individuals and keep doing so even today—(though for a short period in case like me—may be I need to read it again 😃)

Have you read Atlas Shrugged—there are three male protagonists almost equally strong, and a female that all three loved.
