I beseech God for light!
Step Four - Nature and Nurture.
The endless debate of psychologists and philosophers of Nature vs. Nurture. I suppose 'they' never thought to ask a mother, for we mothers are responsible for both. It is part of our duty and our inherent love to have a care for our child's nature, their health and natural character as well as for their nurture, the safe peace of their environment and companions. We seek protection for that inner light. We aid and enhance through outer augmenting light. It is through this fusion of inner and outer light that we hope that they become a beacon for others to follow.
{Lesson four By Mayank. Any successful politician will advise you that it is the utmost importance to keep your private and public lives separate. You cannot contain your public life so that it will not leak into your private life however the damage is minimal so far as your family already know who you are. However I cannot stress enough the destructive damage to your public persona if you fail to keep private your 'other' side}

Step four part two.

I cannot express my childlike excitement about this Diwali of Mayank and Nupur & Shilpa Aunty and Mayu. I had so many questions and anticipated expectations. Finally Aunty would meet Nupur! Who would win the inner battle for control over the Mayank's soul, when both, Mayank and Mayu, would be present in the same room?
MJHT creators out shone all my expectations with a plethora of patakhey and illuminating light. I loved the metaphor of light which permeates all the Diwali scenes of MN and Shilpa Aunty. I love Mayank's pehley patakhey as well as those only audible in his heart. Diwali being the celebration of light; my favourite creation and signs of God. I love the medley of disparate lights; fire, sun light, moonlight, fluorescent light, electric light. As diverse at the lights lit within us all. I love the nature of light; it vanquishes darkness!
The opening scene Shilpa Aunty opens the curtains in Mayank's dark room, letting in the sun light, rays of hope of a new dawn. Shilpa Aunty looked breathtakingly beautiful. No one surpassed her shimmering glimmer on Diwali, not even Nupur. I was mesmerised by her radiance. She is the metaphor of sunlight in Mayank's life. She dims out the artificial electric light from Mayank's desk lamp with her life affirming and generous blaze, penetrating and permeating all that are blessed by her rays. The warmth of her smile is like the warmth of the sun. She nurtures him towards enjoying life; the importance of taking days off to spend in the company of other people's lights.
BANG!
Mayank's pehla patakha.
"Arey! Nupur beta, TUM YAHAN!"
Then one of the anticipated moments. Shilpa Aunty meets Nupur. Who would win in this battle of lights? The scene was adorable, both charmed and charming, captivated and captivating; behaving their natural selves, no pretence and no pretentiousness. Have you ever seen the sun and moon in the sky together? For me, if Shilpa Aunty is the sunlight in Mayank's life then Nupur is his moonlight.
As a befitting prelude, Nupur places a diya in Mayank's guarded sanctuary signifying the prosperity she is about to bring into Mayank and Shilpa's Aunty lives.
BANG!
Mayank's asli pehla patakha!
Nupur's beautiful and bright light penetrates all the seals, the veils and those walls across Mayank's heart and pierces his inner most core. Mayank's dignified decorum gone, unable to control himself... "Tum achi lagti ho."
I loved the enchanting image MJHT creators give us of Shilpa Aunty and Nupur, together creating the rangoli outside on the porch whilst Mayank is inside his dim room with his books. They are outside living life, he is inside taking notes! Like the diya and rangoli they use to delicately decorate the porch, Shilpa Aunty and Nupur are those lights that refract though into Mayank's small world bringing forth all the colours of life!
Their subsequent discussion showing that knowledge is not only for passing exams. Knowledge is for the betterment of your intellect and for sustaining the light of your heart.
The generosity of Shilpa Aunty's light, like the sun, unbiased she nurtures all those around her not only her son. She encourages Nupur to grow into her own natural traits and nurtures Nupur to have courage in her own conviction. Later on, Nupur says about Shilpa Aunty
"Mayank ke mummy, toh kamal ke mummy hai...
Mujhe ek pal ke liye aisa lagga, voh Mayank ke mummy nahin hai, voh mere mummy hai...
shahid isliye Mayank hameesha apne maa ki bare mein baat kehta rehta hai.
Kyun ke, voh hai itni pyaari"
Nupur's moon reflecting Aunty's sunlight shines forth full.
Then my all time favourite Shilpa Aunty Mayank moments. As most of you know of my penchant for moments within moments.
"BUDU! Aunty, pura college sirf Mayank, Mayank karta rehta hai!"
That look Shilpa Aunty gives Mayank of commendation and the returning look of happiness upon Mayank's face. This is so beautifully portrayed by both Arjun and Vaishnavi, within the flap of a mosquito's wings; both evoke such depth of feeling and vastness of meaning. Mayank's returning smile imbued with his haya infused humbleness. No big grin, no expectation of praise, his reward was in Shilpa Aunty's subtly small but heartfelt genuine smile. Both smiles given in gratitude for the others efforts and smothered in love! This moment pierces my soul every time!
Then BANG! Before my heart returns to a rhythmic beat, a patakha explodes 'thud!' in my heart. Aunty tells Nupur 'tum aati rehna' and looking at Mayank for agreement, who returns with...
"Haan!" and that bashful smile of acceptance. His irrepressible honest reply to the successful meeting of mum and friend! One small step to a giant leap into the heavenly world of companionship. That little haan's momentum echoing through eternity; resounding once again in Mayank's acceptance of Bauji's marriage proposal for Nupur; after finding synchronizing force within Nupur's Haan of their drama rehearsal. I digress...
BANG!
Mayank's dosra Patakha.
"Tum toh naya kuch karna ne chatey!
Mayank mujhe lagta hai, tum bachpan mein hi boday ho gaya ho!"
As those beautiful bright pehley patakhey echo in his mind, Aunty still manages to unwittingly surprise Mayank with one last...
BANG!
Mayank's Aakri patakha!
MAYU!
A new day in the same dim room, same thoughts of college and books brings with it the realisation that he will have to face a world where Mayu was unmasked and exposed. Lazy bum Mayank (maybe Aunty Shilpa is a stickler for time) humbly reproaches his mother for his failure to maintain boundaries.
Shilpa Aunty advises Mayank. She has witnessed both Mayank's and Nupur's natures and tries to nurture both, tries to let one breathe free from the imposition of the other. This is the essence of the mother; a light that nurtures nature.
