Narayani Shastri says she's still very much a part of Mamta.
Narayani Shastri is just back from the US and certainly not happy about the recent buzz here. There were reports recently about her being sacked from the show Mamta. Ask Narayani about it and she's shocked. "Who says I've been sacked? I'm very much doing Mamta. I will be going to shoot today. I don't know where such stories spring from?" she says.
Narayani entered Mamta four months ago after the serial took a time leap. She is playing mother to a young guy but that was never a deterrent for the actress. "I liked my role in it. I was told it was a mature love story between my character and her husband. And how she is sandwiched between her son and husband."
Narayani does admit that over the past few weeks she felt her character was going nowhere. "There was a meeting with the concerned people over this. I was assured things will change," she says. Perhaps it was this meeting which gave rise to the rumours of her quitting the show. "Yes, I guess. But meetings of this kind happen all the time in the TV industry between actors and the production houses. That doesn't mean an actor has quit the show."
But, what if she's still not happy with the way her character is dealt with? "In that case, I'll quit in a month. But I don't think it will get to that stage. I have spoken to producer Sheel Kumar, who I've worked with earlier in Piya ka Ghar. We have a great rapport. He told me things will get better and if they don't, then he will not stop me from opting out."
