This dialogue of Karna seems to be quite confusing...
On one hand he says, women like to have many husbands, thus acknowledging polyandry...and on the other hand, he calls a woman unchaste bcoz of the same reason... 😕

I am well aware that polyandry was prevalent then, in tribal areas...for which Draupadi's polyandry wae accepted by everyone. Bhishma, Vidur, etc never questioned her character...If polyandry had been a taboo, then she would never have been allowed to be the Queen...not just the Queen but the Empress...Clearly polyandry was not a taboo then, as it is now. And Draupadi wae extremely devoted to ALL her husbands even after her Vastraharan...

But 'women like to have many husbands'...this is too judgemental...

Nonetheless, I still believe in the Kunti's sharing theory...

@ shriya95:
That's a general statement Karna makes and he in these sentences himself acknowledges and agrees that such practices existed and also degrades it but does that mean such practices are despicable?!
His outbursts in dyut sabha is because of his personal hatred and dislike for such practice not because polyandry is something to be looked down upon.

we have people on TV discussing court decisions and questioning them if it is not of their convenience , does that mean courts are wrong?

Supposedly, according to scriptures, women could take maximum four men.

But then, honestly, is there any difference in four or five?
And ur right...I too think thats wat he implied...

And honestly...its not the unchaste comment that bothers me to a great extent...ofcourse it was a horrible thingto say...but it is the dialogues that followed that makes me 😡
The disrobing part is the worst part...nothing can compare to that...

Krishnaa:

Drau is called as Bandhaki - wh*$e
Anekavasaga -vasaga in possession of / also means wife but is not a respectable word wrt wife
aneka- more than 1 or many
because she's wife to more than one , it is certain she's a wh*$e 😡

unchaste means adultress , vyabhicharini who is not Fidel even in her marriage 🤢
KMG makes it unchaste in his translation but the word is Bandhaki

Yes I agree with Nidhi, that bandhaki word means only wh**e, not unchaste like KMG translated. KMG seems to be a strong Karna fan so he tried to save Karna in many places, I can show you another proof from Udyoga parva. That's why original Sanskrit text reading is so necessary.

Whatever d word means...w****e or unchaste, it is NOT a decent word to be used for a lady to take out personal grudge.. She was abused in that place and no one can say anything that lessens d extent of damage...

Sema dear , I don't think KMG is to be blamed entirely ; its the burudwan Bengali (Bordhaman) edition which makes that. BORI deleted as many as 30 chapters in Karna parva which they found suspicious.
KMG used Bombay edition and Neelantha commentary Drona parva onwards too late, I think . In his own words he expresses displeasure over 3 line anushtubh chandas overzealously praising K
I am not authority to talk abt KMG's translation but agree with you that he has been criticized.

I know. Whatever the case may be, KMG is not a reliable translation at all. KNG is horrible for research work 🤢 creates my headache. Once I made a Karna file to show his true color from epic but found that many verses are partially translated in KMG in which Karna speaks bad words 🤢 finally I had to find out the original verses for each case, that KMG only increased my work, nothing else 😆
