According to the below citations, Karna used Brahmastra against Arjuna, not once, but twice!😲 Once before Krishna questions Karna's dharma & once after that! Both were neutralised by Arjuna- first one he tried to neutralise with Aindra astra & it didn't work after which Krishna had to shout for using Brahmastra against Brahmastra. In both cases, it was Karna who aimed the dangerous weapon first. Since they both are well-trained warriors, all weapons got destroyed without any complications!
Then Arjuna sped seven and ten terrible arrows, perfectly straight and of fierce impetuosity, resembling fire in splendour and like unto Indra's thunder in force. Endued with awful impetuosity, those arrows pierced Karna and passing out of his body fell upon the surface of the earth. Trembling at the shock, Karna then displayed his activity to the utmost of his power. Steadying himself by a powerful effort he invoked the brahmastra. Beholding the brahmastra, Arjuna invoked the Aindra weapon with proper mantras. Inspiring gandiva, its string, and his shafts also, with mantras, that scorcher of foes poured showers like Purandara pouring rain in torrents. Those arrows endued with great energy and power, issuing out of Partha's car, were seen to be displayed in the vicinity of Karna's vehicle. The mighty car-warrior Karna baffled all those shafts displayed in his front. Seeing that weapon thus destroyed, the Vrishni hero, addressing Arjuna, said, "Shoot high weapons, O Partha! The son of Radha baffles thy shafts." With proper mantras, Arjuna then fixed the brahmastra on his string, and shrouding all the points of the compass with arrows, Partha struck Karna (with many) arrows.
Then Vasudeva, addressing Phalguna, that bull among men, said, "O thou of great might, piercing Karna with a celestial weapon, throw him down." Thus addressed by the holy one, Arjuna became filled with rage. Indeed, remembering the incidents alluded to by Krishna, Dhananjaya blazed up with fury. Then, O king, blazing flames of fire seemed to emanate from all the pores of the angry Partha's body. The sight seemed to be exceedingly wonderful. Beholding it, Karna, invoking the brahmastra, showered his shafts upon Dhananjaya, and once more made an effort to extricate his car. Partha also, by the aid of the brahmastra, poured arrowy downpours upon Karna. Baffling with his own weapon the weapon of his foe, the son of Pandu continued to strike him.
After using the second Brahmastra, Karna gets killed in sometime.
From these citations it is clear that Karna was no more a Ghajini while aiming or shooting the arrow! Hence the curse part of Parashurama story is probably only a later addition!😃

Now., I am thinking the⭐️version of graphic Kavacha offers an excellent answer to ur doubts😳It was no conventional armour.. It was always inside him and appears only when he is at peril..
And., if u had watched closely., the Kavacha only appeared when Karna knew he was in danger., or more appropriately when he wanted it to appear and he stretched open his arms .. So., it didnot appear when the bug bit him., bcos he dint want it to appear., it would have disturbd Rama's sleep..
I'm guessing one of CV's would have thought along these lines and thus solved the mystery with modern version of Kavacha😎

If you take out and read the Charaka Samhita (a book on Ayurveda), written at least 500 years before Mahabharata, your jaw will drop reading the fantastic descriptions of Chromosomes, Genes & DNAs (the language it a bit different though not impossible to understand). That means people of those times knew all these! So I thought about Karna's Kavacha being a specialised protein layer.
And it was KUNTI who put the demand to Surya that her son must have the immortal Kavacha-Kundala. Only when Surya agreed to that demand, Kunti became willing for the physical union of them. I love Kunti for that!
I've very much liked the Kavacha of Star Karna. It made some sense like a Chameleon's skin. Karna's Kavacha was surely not a simple armour. It was a part of his body, probably an advanced layer of his skin. I love how it blooms like a golden lotus in his chest, in StarB.

Parashurama was the teacher of Bheeshma who was not a brahmana. So he taught people other than Brahmanas!
In Vana Parva, while explaining Karna's birth, it is told his Kavacha made him invulnerable (impossible to harm or damage) and his Kundala made him immortal. It doesn't specify which parts of his body will be impossible to be harmed. It clearly means no body parts of Karna could be harmed or damaged.
Even if we consider Karna first studied under Drona and then went to Parashurama, in Shanti Parva, in the chapter next to the chapter describing Karna being cursed by P.Rama, partying of Karna, Dury & Shishupala is mentioned. It means this was before Rajasuya of Yudhi.
From the above things, it appears Karna went to Parashurama before he lost his K-K. When his K-K made him invulnerable, how could a worm/beetle/any animal could have pierced his thigh, harmed him, caused bleeding, which ultimately resulted in Parashurama's curse? I'm doubtful.
