Thanks for clearing the doubt about Vrishaketu ...So finally he is fictional because if he was real Yudi would not sit on the throne AFAIK and then Parikshit would not need to sit on the throne???? Sorry for bothering about this question again and again 😔

No, no, no, no...

He may very well have been real. His being around has nothing to do w/ Yudhi's acceptance of the throne. Besides, the Pandavas may easily have given him a kingdom - as it is, Arjun got him married to a princess, as opposed to his father, who only married sutas.

It's tough to say which of Vyasa's disciples got it right, if they all have contradicting accounts. Just look at the disparities, say, b/w MB and Shrimad Bhagvatam - the Krishna history, and your head will go for a spin

Ok Vrish,I am no more induldging in this question...is KMG the best source for MB or is there something else because the fact that people are in confusion of his existence is one of the prooves that he is not mentioned very clearly /not mentioned at all/added by some people ...So I want to know is KMG it?where is the original or the oldest text?? [No offence ,just clearing some doubts on Karna ]

The three important translations of Mahabharata are :- ( present today )
  1. Gita Press' Translation of Mahabharata (Hindi)
  2. KMG's translation(English)
  3. Critical Edition of Mahabharata translated by Bibek Debroy. ( 10 Volumes ) ( English)

While the first 2 translations are freely available, Bibek Debroys translation of the Critical Edition is not free

I request you to please guide yourself Here. Read the next post also, Both of the posts will tell you the journey of Mahabharata and how it came to the dominant form we have today.

In some versions Karna fails to string the bow ( At Draupadi's swayamvar ), in some versions he doesn't even participate and in some versions Draupadi rejects him.

Yeah, I actually loved Ramanand Sagar's depiction of Karna's truth revelation for several reasons:
  • Unlike a lot of other things he did, this one was true to the story
  • It showed Kunti grappling w/ the question of whether to fess up to her sons or not. They even had a scene where Yudhi is making a list of the fallen warriors whose rites need to be done - Shalya, Abhi, Ghato, and Krishna pointedly asks Kunti whether they're forgetting anybody 😆
  • Kunti hallucinates about Karna (instead of the other way around, as in this serial 😆) and discusses it w/ Krishna, who persuades her to do justice to Karna's soul
  • Kunti finally asks her sons to do Karna's rites. That part had a bit of melodrama, including her slapping Bhima 😡
  • Yudhi absolutely distraught on learning who Karna was
  • In the aftermath of the tilanjali, Yudhi tells a triumphant Nakul that they did snatch the kingdom, not from the Kauravas, but from their eldest brother. And how he hates himself to the core 😭❤️ (Although I normally have a dim view of Yudhi, I just loved him in these scenes)
The only thing I didn't like about that scene was Dhritarashtra & Gandhari being present, & mute. This was just a Pandava family event - Kunti and her sons. It's unclear whether Krishna & Draupadi were also around.

agreed vrish

even i liked Ramanad sagar's shri krishna's presentation of the truth revelation to pandavs the best more than BRC and ⭐️Bharat.BRC was the worst one for me panadavs didn't show any emotions at all not even yudi only except his curse .

In shri krishna at least the timing of truth revelation was correct and what i loved the most was when Karna's soul appears to bless his brother's😊

If we go by Jaimneya's MB which had vrishasketu i guess the reason why he never became the king despite being the son of the eldest brother could be because he was born of a suta woman just like vidur never got to be a king

although i have heard stories about yudi offering him the throne and vrishasketu refusing not sure how true they are
