The most poignant moment in the Indonesian version is the Karna-Arjuna meeting in the eve of Karna's first day as the Kaurava army's commander in chief. Arjuna secretly visits him. He has the most difficult moment in his life. Arjuna suddenly stands in front of him, kneels and greets him respectfully and says clearly, 'Please accept my sincere respects and Pandava's respect to you.' Karna is deeply moved. His eyes are filled with tears. Arjuna proposes to make him the emperor of Hastinapura and hopes that he will join them. They speak emotionally with each other and express love for each other. Finally they decide to adhere by their Kshatriya duties and fight in next day's battle. Then they embrace each other again without a word and Arjuna leaves with Karna's permission.

Next day after Karna kills Ghatothkacha with his Kunto-arrow; Karna's carriage is torn to pieces, hit by Ghatothkacha's body falling from the sky. He is thrown away. With no carriage he meets Arjuna directly. He is aware that Arjuna has several heirlooms, which should kill him. But he would be happy to be killed by a mighty, powerful brother. He is happy that his brothers would be glorious rulers in Hastinapur. Finally Arjuna releases his Pasupati arrow piercing Karna through the neck. In the Indian version Karna is beheaded. Karna's death is mourned deeply by both sides. The Pandava family performs Karna's funeral rites with full honour. In the Indian version this happens at the end of the war after Kunti reveals Karnas' identity to the Pandavas.

This is almost exactly wat is shown in the serial...
Apart from Karns's enlightenment, this is almost the same.

So, the CVs have actually done their research of other versions...

no amrita, thats a different version as Arjun in that version already knows that Karna is his brother. He goes to meet Karna just a day before he dies.. See the first para which Bheegi has posted😊

Yes I have seen that. I was talking about the mourning part...
All brothers mourning together n finally doing his last rite...

The CVs have taken various parts of the epic from different versions, thus creating displeasure among fans...

Both the Far East versions are big time KaJu fans. Except for the fact that Arjun knew Karna to be his brother and the Ghato stuff, it is almost exactly as SP shown. The Far East versions also have Arjun washing Karna's feet and Nakul and Sahadev treating Karna after the Kavach daan (both of which SP showed). Looks like the CVs did their research on all the versions and picked up the more melodramatic ones from each version to show.

I will definitely check it out sir. You've a great command on English and that's what I love most about MMM (along with the thorough research)

Interesting, but the tweaking seems to be a later accretion. I'm not sure if this was the Javanese version consulted by Sukthankar et al in making the 'Pune' Critical Edition.

@abhijitbasu- first of all welcome to the forum. Great to see renowned author here😊.
Just out of curiousity , did Pune CE Edition that you are talking about takes into account all other versions outside India as well?

@Abhijit sir, as far as I know the Critical edition doesn't have any citation on this aspect of Karna-Arjun relationship

If you have a few moments, would you let us know what your views on this Star Plus' version are?

Most of us enjoy the show despite the distortions. This show has also inspired a lot of us to read the Mahabharat and various books associated with this great epic. Overall, it's been a positive experience for most of us.

I'm just curious to know what reputable authors like you feel.

Thanks. One feels cerebrally stimulated in such a forum of serious readers. As to your second point, my notes (also incorporated in Marvels & Mysteries...) mention that a Nepali and a Javanese version, apart from some European Library versions of old Indian manuscripts), were consulted in making the CE. However, the basic guide (other than the main CE volumes with Appendices), for readers would be Sukthankar's introductory Prolegomena, available in this link: http://sanskritdocuments.org/mirrors/mahabharata/Suk933__Sukthankar_ProlegomenaMBh1.txt
