Reagrding Suryadev as a father i am not that well read in hindu shastras so i wont know much but i clealry remember that krishna ji tells Karna clealry that as per shastra's he is pandu's son .So his case is the same as other pandavas.Hence if other pandavas bilological father's didnt do much for them in sense didnt play a fatherly role to them nor did suryadev becuase as per shastra's they were all pandu's sons not their's
ya but i do agree that since Karna's situation was different and not like other brother's he could have played a more important role than other god's .Even if as per shastras he was pandu'sson he could have done more becuase karnna's situation was exceptional hence surya dev could also have been an exception to the rule
