The Mahabharata, Book 3: Vana Parva: Pativrata-mahatmya Parva: Section CCCVI:

Vaisampayana said, "It was, O lord of earth, on the first day of the lighted fortnight during the tenth
month of the year
that Pritha conceived a son like the lord himself of the stars in the firmament. And that damsel of excellent hips from fear of her friends, concealed her conception, so that no one knew her condition. And as the damsel lived entirely in the apartments assigned to the maidens and carefully concealed her condition, no one except her nurse knew the truth.

also she does call upon surya and others gods for protecting the child:

Do thou listen to the words Kunti weepingly uttered, while consigning the box to the waters of the river Aswa, 'O child, may good betide thee at the hands of all that inhabit the land, the water, the sky, and the celestial regions. May all thy paths be auspicious! May no one obstruct thy way!
And, O son, may all that come across thee have their hearts divested of hostility towards thee: And may that lord of waters, Varuna. protect thee in water! And may the deity that rangeth the skies completely protect thee in the sky. And may, O son, that best of those that impart heat, viz., Surya, thy father, and from whom I have obtained thee as ordained by Destiny, protect thee everywhere! And may the Adityas and the Vasus, the Rudras and the Sadhyas, the Viswadevas and the Maruts, and the cardinal points with the great Indra and the regents presiding over them, and, indeed, all the celestials, protect thee in every place! Even in foreign lands I shall be able to recognise thee by this mail of thine! Surely, thy sire, O son, the divine Surya possessed of the wealth of splendour, is blessed, for he will with his celestial sight behold thee going down the current!

but its his ear-rings and armour which keeps him alive:

Meanwhile, the basket floated from the river Aswa to the river Charmanwati, and from the Charmanwati it passed to the Yamuna, and so on to the Ganga. And carried by the waves of the Ganga, the child contained in the basket came to the city of Champa ruled by a person of the Suta tribe. Indeed, the excellent coat of mail and those ear-rings made of Amrita that were born with his body, as also the ordinance of Destiny, kept the child alive."

Kunti also knows about karna's whereabouts long before her marriage . seems she kept track of the basket as to who found it:

And Pritha (kunti) learnt through spies that her own son clad in celestial mail was growing up amongst the Angas as the eldest son of a charioteer (Adhiratha).

Absolutely! This should remove some smear off Kunti; 'Brutally' casting that child from her life...She is indeed cornered but perhaps she is not as 'dehumanised' as 'concluded'.

They cud have atleast known that then n there..instead of letting whole world know about it... She was too late in telling karna... when Karna could not leave side of Dury..

The answer was specifically covering her silence in context of a corollary injury to Karna; Rangabhumi in specific and thereafter in general. Since Kunti is largely denounced here on these assumed harms to him only...sorry I have not read you earlier nor was I answering your point.
But coming to your point; 'it was too late. He would have not fought the brothers." Really? Would he have not- If told in private and discreetly? An Assumption contrary to the text. For eventually it did happen in the way you are suggesting and he was as resolved as earlier. Lateness has nothing to do it with. The text demonstrates it clearly.

I dont have any personal enimity against kunti... reasons you or others gave for hiding the secrets on basis of what could have happend if revealed are also mere assumptions only... So I cn assume too that kunti was too late perhaps in revealing it to karna and other pandavas...
You really dont have to apologise if you were not answering me..or you have not read my point earlier...though i quoted you...I said tht for myself...that i m repeating again my lines...
and on last bold- Well lateness had everything to do with it... coz Karna was killed already when his identity revealed to his brothers..
I would like to end my argument here by saying.. i respect your contrary views to mine... but i do stick to mine as well.. then lets agree to disagree..
