Not to argue for the heck of it, Charu, but there can be any number of other ups and downs that would not have a foundation assured to be appealing only to a limited devoted audience.

RK is not being shown down in a way that he can get up. Rather he is being shown almost entirely brainless to keep him down so that he'll then need to be helped up and won't get up on his own.

But since Madhu is never shown being clever (I've stopped hoping and dreaming for shrewd Madhu), seeing RK not clever makes their entire story at that point not particularly luring viewing for the lapsed viewership which gave MEIEJ great TRP when it was to their taste and not when it was not.
We have got only mediocre TRP when CVs/channel have tried to shove on with tracks packaged outright against the preferences and tastes of majority-audience.

What's the point of ups and downs if only the diehards will watch the resultant story, and ensure only mediocre TRP?
TRP already proved - repeatedly - the exact character-template of the sort of RK that is interesting to watch except to those of us who can collectively ensure only mediocre TRP.

Seeing RK differently characterized may be great for variety for those who are particularly attached to this show regardless of tracks.
But majority-audience has never shown inclination for a lead's character to show variety beyond that specific character's popular template. A lead's basic character, intellect and capability stays constant even through shocking-change tracks.
For great TRP, story and track are important but secondary. It is the mass-audience's love for the leads character+actor combination that gets excellent TRP even when the track is somewhat boring.
Any unappealing formulation in leads actors, characterization, anything, and you could make it wholly saas-bahu and still not get great TRP.

If the leads characterization is not enthusing viewing, then their efforts and/or difficulties are not particularly alluring viewing except to a audience far smaller than is needed to keep a track and series in better results than we had for past several months.
And here we have been seeing RK perpetually down in one way or the other for seven months, and finally in previous track and this track with his brains dispensed with first to make the deceased character look dangerous and then to make Madhu heroine with someone other than RK credited for the initiative.
RK conveniently idiotic leaves us with an enthusiastically slogging lead couple outwitted by every other character in the series.

No amount of failure can decrease the IQ of a person
An intelligent man always remains intelligent and an idiot always an idiot
For drama u require ups and downs
It's the way RK Is being shown not using his brains in fighting the odds irks majority audience
I don't care if he fails but at least he should be shown fighting bravely and intelligently
