Chapter Seven - The Truth

"Kill your child."

"GO AWAY!"

I threw my book at the mirror in front of me after seeing her back. I turned around and saw no one behind me.

"She doesn't exist Madhu…she's just a hallucination."

I told myself out loud.

Suddenly the doorbell rang. I looked at the time, it read 11:45pm. RK never came early, so I wondered whom it could be. I opened the door and found Trishna standing in front of me.

"DIDU?!"

I hugged her instantly. She hugged me in response and then pulled away.

"Come in!"

I took her to the couch and had her sit down.

"Do you want anything?"

"No Glycerine. I'm just here to check up on you. We had an outdoor here, so I decided to come visit."

"Oh, I'm doing fine!"

"And your baby?"

"Healthy!"

"Ma said she's going to come live with you tomorrow."

"Why?"

"You're all alone Madhu."

"No I'm not."

"What?"

"RK visits me every night. He'll be coming soon actually!"

"R…K…?"

I glanced at Trishna who seemed to had lost all the colour from her face.

"Madhu…RK's dead."

"Shut up Didu, that's not a funny joke."

"He died your wedding day. He never made it. Car accident. YOU WENT TO HIS FUNERAL. MADHU?!"

She shook me, but I refused to believe her.

I glanced down at my watch.

"5…4…3…2…1…"

I heard the doorbell ring as the clock struck midnight. I dropped everything and ran. I ran as though my life depended on the person behind the door.

I heard my name being called from behind, but I ignored her voice. Everything she had just told me was a lie. Everything.

I came to a stop in front of the door and took in a deep breath. Then with the flick of a lock, I slowly turned the doorknob. There he stood, looking just as he had the night before, and the night before that. I felt an eerie chill rippling along my skin as I stared up at him.

"RK…"

"How was your day Biwi?"

He asked the same question he had the night before, and the night before that. I didn't respond. I looked up at his face and saw the usual smirk, which managed to always take my breath away. Then with a final look at his face, I pushed myself into his arms. I felt his warm, comforting arms wrap around me in response and I suddenly felt at peace.

Then her voice interrupted from behind.

"Madhu?!"

I instantly pulled out of his arms and turned to see her face, which had gone white with fear. While staring at her fear-stricken face, I spoke in a stern voice.

"RK is my husband. He always will be my husband. You can't take that away from me. Never."

"Madhu…there's no one there…"

"RK's here."

I looked over Trishna's shoulder and saw the girl beginning to turn around. Was she finally going to show me her face? I kept my eyes in her direction and noticed Trishna look over her shoulder as well.

"Madhu what are you staring at?!"

I ignored Trishna.

Then finally, I saw her face…the girl who had been bothering me for months…me. She had my face. I found myself staring at myself. She shot me an evil smile and then spoke.

"Kill her."

Yes, I've ended this SS at a cliffhanger. Everyone's free to use their imagination now! For those of you who didn't understand this part...basically, Madhu's schizophrenic. In other words, she sees people that no one else sees and they tell her to do things that aren't normal. She hallucinates. Sorry for the not so happy ending!
