Chapter Six - The Psychiatrist

"5…4…3…2…1…"
The clock struck 12. I heard the doorbell ring and ran straight towards the door. With a deep breath, I opened it. There he stood, smiling, staring down at me with a look full of love.
I grabbed his hand and pulled him towards the couch. I had him sit down.
"How are you Madhu?"
"Good, you? How was shooting?"
"I missed you, like I do every day."
"I missed you too."
I wrapped my arms around him as he wrapped his around me in response. Every day I'd only get to see him two hours. He was busy shooting for a film outside of the city, so I barely got time to see him. He'd make it home at 12am every night and leave by 2am.
I pulled away slowly and stared at him.
"How much longer?"
"The film will be done in a few months."
I smiled, upset. I slowly looked over his shoulder to see her standing there with her back towards me. She was none other than a figment of my imagination…in other words, hallucination. Though at times she seemed so real that I would forget she isn't real. I mean everyone always told me she wasn't real but I would refuse to believe them…just as she refused to show me her face. I had given up on attempting to see her face, so I spoke to her instead.
"Go away!"
She didn't move.
It wasn't until RK's hand came to rest on the side of my face that my eyes left her. He looked directly into my eyes, worried for an odd reason.
"Madhu? Have you been seeing your doctor lately…?"
"Our baby is fine RK."
"I know, I meant your psychiatrist."
"I don't need a psychiatrist! Why is everyone out to ge…"
I fell silent as my eyes fell over his shoulder once again, only to see nothing.
I knew I was going crazy. I mean, I was seeing someone who only existed in my mind…or so others thought. To me, she seemed just as real as everyone else.
"I'll go tomorrow…"
"Thank you."
He pulled me in for another hug as the rest of the two hours went by in silence.
---
"Do you have to leave?"
"I'll be back tomorrow at 12am. I promise."
"Hm…okay."
"Make sure you go to your psychiatrist."
"I will."
He smiled, kissed my forehead, and walked out of the door silently.
Every day after that, went the same.
