Nice post. I, too, wondered why CV's did this. They must have wanted a strong character against RK so introduced the new entry as a gangster.

But I've often thought, would he have been less effective as a producer/ rival actor or a businessman. Don't we have the Ambani's, Tata and Birla who are so powerful that they can do almost anything? CV's could have brought in a similar powerful character instead of having this person being a gangster ... a good hearted gangster whose character is not easy to accept.

I hope the future story justifies his gangster-role and proves that CV's are indeed smart and have long-term story plans for this show.

Exactly..I wanted someone as Madhu's old friend or any rival actor or director of Rk.Here Sultan's being a gangster adds no potential to his character in the show.I doesn't match with the Bollywood track!👎🏼

The inspiration behind the character sultan is a real life don of not that long ago called Haji Mastan Mirza. He was THE Mumbai ka don! Now the film "Once upon a time in mumbai" the main character is based on Haji Mastan Mirza but is named Sultan Mirza!

-Did not invlove himself in any drug smuggling or dealing related activities. In fact joined forces with a famous anti-drug activist Dr Yusef Marchent and campaigned for youth to avoid drugs.
-Went to prison for smuggling
- Once he had paid for his crimes by going to prision, gave up smuggling/crime ie life of a gangster/don/criminal and never indulged in crime ever again.
- Had MANY connections in Bollywood! Dilip Kumar, Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor, Amitabh Bachhan and more!
-Was VERY successful at producing films!!
-Married an actress!
-Was a lonely man with few but staunch friends. He too was very loyal to his friends!

Madhu YES you WILL make an entry in films!! WHO will help you??? Someone who has ALWAYS helped you! Some who has promised he will ALWAYS look out for you!

Now the real don is just an INSPIRATION, they are not going to do a carbon copy! But there are SIGNIFICANT similarities!

Let me clarify myself..if at some point the cvs turn the sultan character irredeemably nasty like rk's then I will not be shipping him blindly nor will I be justifying his actions by bashing other characters. Get the picture?

Sultan is a gangster only for ppl who are foolish enough to cross his way and mess with him...eg: bhujang
