Chapter 15
Rishab stopped laughing abruptly when he realized that the Bhatia clan had invaded his moment. He was all for maintaining good business relations, but when that line of respecting ones space is crossed he didn't spare anyone. "Mr. Bhatia and company, welcome!! Let me introduce you to... the door. Usually it only lets people who knock first inside but today I think its not feeling well, must call the carpenter." Mr. Bhatia was embarrassed by the greeting and realizing his folly, he immediately apologized. Sikander turned to his Dad and whispered, "Why are you saying sorry to him? You too are a partner in this company." Mr. Bhatia elbowed him in the ribs and shushed him. Mr. Bhatia was not very pleased with the fact that he had to apologize to Rishab, but considering the fact that Rishab was the major shareholder and Chairman of the company, he decided that he better give in, plus he was trying to reel Rishab in for his daughter. He had known for sometime now that Deepali had some affection for Rishab, but from what he had noticed, Rishab didn't share in that feeling.
"Oh Madhu, hi, what are you doing here? What business could you possibly have with Rishu?" , Deepali asked with barely laced malice in her voice. Madhu didn't notice the aggravation in her voice, but Rishab did and was on high alert. Before Madhu could answer, he said in the sweetest yet mocking tone, "Well Deepali (stressing on her name, knowing full well that she didn't like to be called Deepali) I don't see what business could you possibly have in this matter?" Fury spread through her and she wanted to direct that fury towards Madhu. Madhu in the meanwhile was not sure what was going on. She felt like she was in a 1960s cowboy movie where one was the sheriff and the other an outlaw and someone would be dead in the fast draw. She could sense the increasing tension in the air but didn't know what to do about it. Finally it was Rishab who called her attention when he addressed her, "Madhu it has been a pleasure meeting you. If I didn't already have a meeting scheduled today, I would have loved to talk to you some more." He stopped talking abruptly when he felt an electricity course through him as she shook his hand. She felt it too and looked up at him to see if she was the only one who felt it. She pulled her hand out of his when she realized that it was not just her who felt something during that innocent handshake. She murmured a thank you which was barely audible and turned to leave. Rishab was quick to recover and called out to her "And Madhu, I definitely found your paintings... nice!!" Her face lit up as she heard the humour in his voice and rolled her eyes at him and as she walked out of the cabin nodded at the Bhatia trio.
The Bhatia clan were left speechless as they watched the easy interaction between Rishab and Madhu. They have seen him in his business mode – cool and calm, they have seen him angry, they have seen him in get back at someone mode, but never in a humour and fun filled exchange with anybody except for maybe a close few, and most certainly never with any of them. They stared at him as if they could not believe that the person in front of them was Rishab Kundra.
