Chapter 14
Rishab and Madhu stared at each other as if they were seeing ghosts. Rishab was the first one to recover from this encounter and as if he were watching a silent movie, the time he spent with the gorgeous woman in front of him flashed before his eyes and automatically his infamous smirk graced his face. "And hello there Miss..." he spoke. His voice broke her trance and seeing him smirk at her, she was a little irritated. "Madhubala Malik", she said with a slight hint of pride in her voice. He was beginning to love the slight irritation that graced her face and he thought that she looked a lot cuter this way. "Miss. Madhubala ahaan...I am told that you wanted to see me today" he spoke in a deep baritone and at that moment she just wanted him to continue to speak. She decided to ignore the cheekiness she heard in his voice and just do what she came here for and leave. As if that wasn't enough, she was beginning to feel the same uneasiness she felt last night in his presence, but it was not an unpleasant feeling rather she was liking this feeling.
"I... I just wanted to meet you personally today to apologize about yesterday. I know I was supposed to meet you and talk about my paintings but I was late." But seeing his amused face, I kind of flipped and turned contemptuous and decided to lay it on him. "Actually at first I didn't really want to meet you, I thought it was pretty obnoxious of you to demand to meet me right away. I was not too happy about selling my paintings in the first place, and then you wanted to buy all of them and then you call my paintings nice. They are not nice, I mean they are exquisite. For all I know you must have bought them because they match the colour of your cafeteria or washrooms." Though he was having the time of his life listening to her rant, he decided to stop her constant jabbering so that she could breathe. "hmm I thought you came here to apologize Miss. Madhubala." She paused, looked at him like a child about to throw a tantrum and said, "I changed my mind." The corners of his lips curled, involuntarily and he fought back hard as his cheeks swelled momentarily with the pressure, but it was no use. He erupted in laughter. He hadn't laughed like this in a long time and didn't even remember the last time he laughed so openly.
As I watched him laugh I thought his laugh was charming and infectious. When he laughs, his eyes crinkle at the corners, his face lights up like a neon sign and he abandons his body to the merriment. I couldn't help it anymore and burst out laughing myself. That is how they – Mr. Bhatia, Sikander and Deepali found us when they came through the door into his cabin.
Deepali looked at Rishab confused, she had never really see him laugh like this, without restraint. She looked around and spotted Madhu and was infuriated and you could see her face and neck turning a dark shade of crimson. Something darkened in Deepali's eyes, something that ran deeper than a passing dislike. Something darker than a mere competition for a boy.
