First of all I'd like to take a second and thank everyone who read this, liked it, and especially those who left such wonderful, heartfelt comments. I was really touched as so many of them went beyond the text and even reached out to me as a writer. Thank you so, so much đ¤
Part 2
"A Heart-to-Heart"
"What? You're... but... You can't!" He immediately got up from the table gripping to the edge of the terrace railing, hiding his disturbed face from her.
"What do you mean I can't? I mean you didn't expect us to stay like this forever did you?" she questioned as he felt her pressing down on the railing only to see that she was standing next to him.
"No but," he sighed truly confused as to what to say, she had never seen him so distressed before. So confused. So tongue tied.
"Madhu," He turned to face her, not missing the split second of surprise on her face when she saw his fretful face. For the first time in... a while, had he taken her name. And it seemed painful. "Was this," he struggled to find the right words, "I mean the contract, is that why you're still here?"
"Yeah," she answered in a matter-of-fact tone.
Before he allowed himself to think further he took her palm in his hand and pulled her close to him, so that their face were mere centimeters away from each other. His hazel eyes peering down into her soul, "Let me rephrase that, is that the only reason you're still here?"
His felt himself hold onto his breath for a moment. He didn't want to try making sense to himself right now as to why he was doing this; all he knew was that it had to be done.
"Tell me Madhu please," he whimpered as his bushy soft eyebrows dropped, "... and don't lie." He held her closer and she felt his grip on her waist tighten, it felt almost possessive.
For a second she was lost. Obviously there was another reason for her staying back, even after his reformation. But she had decided long back to never, ever let another soul know.
She didn't love him, or so she thought, but she felt for him. She herself wasn't sure what, it was a feeling foreign to her heart, but it couldn't have possibly been love.
Love or not, it made her dread the thought of not being with him. She, to be quite honest, looked forward to their daily squabbles, their laughs and the most inappropriate times, she felt a connection. But she chose to let it go unnamed, partly because she didn't want to face the truth, and partly because deep down, she knew what it was.
"Madhu I asked a question," he reminded her.
"I prefer Biwi to Madhu," she attempted to change the topic.
"Well since I'm losing the right to calling you that soon enough, might as well start getting used to it," he brought her back on track.
Damn. He was good.
"Did this marriage," he dared to use the term, "...mean nothing to you? Was it always just the contract?"
She attempted to tear apart her gaze from his but his eyes just followed not allowing her a second to herself. Her hands slowly made their way to his face. She loved the feeling of his fine stubble brushing against her palm. He was gorgeous. Her husband.
NO! She quickly brushed off her thoughts. He was RK, the superstar. She didn't even have a chance. Then why was she hell bent on trying to get her heart broken.
Hoping he saw the pain in her eyes and understood why, she did what she knew, she had to do.
"It was the contract that brought me here right? So I mean..." She attempted to sound unaffected and casual but she knew she was failing miserably.
"Do I mean anything to you?" He cut her off holding her close that if one of them
moved the slightest bit forward, they would have had their first kiss.
