This is genuine constructive criticism for the actor who plays Sachin (a.k.a Kanwar), and I’d consider myself pretty neutral in my stance regarding this. I’ve seen him in his older shows and have considered him as one of the best actors at one point. Hence, this isn’t meant to hate on him but I’m rather being honest about what I, and many other day-to-day viewers, have called out.
Kanwar has degraded as an actor and is only continuing to do so episode by episode. He used to be amazing when the show started and was on peak until about episode 220. Beyond that, he began overacting. Like, horrendously overacting. His OTT antics aren’t cute or comical. They are cartoonish. Neither is his character supposed to be a replica of Micky Mouse or a poor parody of Johnny Lever from Golmaal 3.
There’s a clear difference between being naturally funny and trying too hard to be funny, and Kanwar tries too hard now. It looks unnatural, abnormal, and cringe. It makes us want to mute him and, most times, we honestly do. This has been going on for over 300 episodes and it has only gotten worse. I have mentioned this in my previous posts, but never really made a separate post about this because I thought he would go back to normal on his own. However, after watching him on SPA yesterday, I think it deserves to be brought to light more firmly.
I don’t completely blame the actor for this either because, to be fair, it lies within the fan culture. He gets praised for literally anything he does by his fans and it gives him ‘false assurance’. Please start looking at other platforms or people who actually follow the show for the show, not for a single actor, because Kanwar and the makers are clearly going by what a selective number of people, who have a highly bias opinion, say.
Now, there are some people that can go a little OTT and it would still be bearable. Unfortunately, that is not the case here. Kanwar doesn't just go little OTT (which is honestly not required), he completely drowns in it and we have been tolerating it for a whole year. It's infuriating because he's completely capable, as proven in the early episodes. Honestly, quoting someone from Reddit for this but seriously accurate statement: "Pata nahi kis bewakoof ne aisi acting ki hype ki hogi ki ab rukh hi nahi raha tskk".
His character is also not meant to be the primary comic relief. He’s a street-smart, unpolished taxi driver, and a character who can be witty without being ridiculous. He can be funny, but it only looks funny when he’s not trying to be funny because his roasting came from character-driven confidence. So, what used to be sharp humor has turned into forced, slapstick energy.
I heard Kanwar likes to watch himself so he can improve, hence, I am genuinely urging him to pick up literally ANY episode between 1 to 220 to see how good of an actor he was. Then, revisit any episode beyond that and see the HUGE difference. He is overacting in literally normal scenes, not even in action and emotional scenes. It’s to the point where even basic actions, like chewing, drinking or reacting, are overacted to the point of absurdity.
There’s also a growing problem with dialogue delivery and script. Words like “please” and “thank you” have turned into “pljj” and “thancku,” which sound unnatural and juvenile. Even phrases like “bhains ki tang,” once funny, are now overused to the point of irritation, literally repeated at least 3 times in every episode.
The creative team, particularly the director and producer, need to step in. They should limit the exaggerated tapori slang and re-establish balance. Sachin interacts daily with educated people while driving. His speech and behavior should reflect both sides of his world, as it used to. Right now, the performance feels like a parody version of the original character. Sachin was not supposed to be a walking meme. And what’s worse is that his OTT behavior has started even allowing other characters like Tejas to outshine him, and I’m saying this as a huge Sachin fan.
Honestly, every time Udne Ki Aasha or Kanwar get praised for something, the show overdoes it until it loses all its charm. The biggest example is Sachin himself. One funny antic gets applauded online, and suddenly it becomes a running gag. Emotional scenes between Renuka and Sachin get acknowledged and now you see Sachin as an adarsh mumma's boy who gives Renuka puppy eyes at least 3 times an episode.
I genuinely want this show to improve, especially Kanwar, and the first thing they need to do is fix his acting.
Edit: This is something huge that I forgot to mention, but the babyish tone Sachin now uses needs to stop. That accent and those overdone slangs really do hurt my ears.
