Episode ~34

The episode starts with a view of another new day at Patil Nivas.
The image of a ferocious Dutta, in boxing gloves and track suit landing heavy punches on his punching bag is shown. Baji climbs the wooden stairs that lead up to Dutta's landing yells, Bhau! Bhau!
Dutta with pugilistic concentration continues his left right punches. Baji teases him, what say Bhau? flexing your muscles up for love are you?. Dutta continues and retorts ,no not for love, shaping up to bang you up!.. Baji points to the swinging punching bag, hey Bhau be gentle! she's a darling not an enemy!. Dutta turns sharply and gives Baji a left hook on his face! Baji holds on to his jaw and complains hey Bhau! you'll break my jaw! you're crazy!, and he goes over to Dutta's desk and sits himself down in the chair. With a big smile and a wink he says, c'mon Bhau! quickly get dressed in a snazzy suit! you're getting late for the meeting!.. Dutta stops and turns his head to look at Baji sitting at his desk. what meeting? Dutta asks, Baji walks up to him and says, honestly Bhau ! you forget everything! I have to remember things for you!which stuff will be delivered where? who to rough up! I have to remember everything.. Dutta looks at Baji and says dryly , are you sleep walking or what? Baji walks off saying, when Baji says so there is a meeting! then there is a meeting!.. Dutta turns and asks Baji ... with whom?.Baji folds his hands to feel his heart and smiles and says, with the heart Bhau! with the heart! Dutta turns his head aside and says, don't talk rubbish! and bends his elbows again ready to continue with punching! the bag
Baji walks up to him and says, listen my brains are about to pop out along with everything else Bhau!, he peers over Dutta's shoulder and says, look Bhau! it's a meeting Bhau! a meeting with vahini! Aye Sahib has arranged it, now Aye Sahib has asked her to stay back, and here you here are punching this ass!. he badgers Dutta. But Dutta seems nonchalant and says, don't be ridiculous Baji !.. and Baji retorts, Bhau! you are the one being ridiculous! look she's here, go talk to her about sweet nothings!
I have to look to everything! Baji moans... if some needs to be snuffed out! I have to do it! if someone needs to be impressed then too Baji! has to do it... Baji muses, Bhau could never talk to a girl.. what would he say? yeah.. he would say.. ey! my heart ticks away like a time bomb! so hurry up and say yea or nay! before this time bomb blows up!.. Baji laughs! and Dutta shakes his head and gives up on Baji's silly ideas..
But Baji carries on.. Bhau what can you say to a girl?.. he challenges, and adds Bhau do one thing, why don't you write her a sweet letter! what do they say in English a love letter!. Dutta ignores him, and Baji says, looks like I'll have to do that as well!
But.. this is true, that if Bhau writes a love letter to a girl, she'll surely read it and run off!.. marry me! or else I'll ask Baji to kidnap you!.. he sniggers and says to himself as he gets ready to write it on a pad.. let's get down to it then! hummmhh, haaah!
My sweetheart! in my heart's rifle only one bullet remains! If you say so? shall I press the trigger! if you say so.. shall I aim at your heart? If you say so shall I give blood money for you..? Dutta listens to Baji and shakes his head but Baji continues... if you say so, I'll drink the ocean dry! Nah man! .. and he rips off the paper and scrunches it up.. think's hard again, smiles and resumes writing.. but doesn't like the idea, scrunches up the paper and then starts again. my beloved.. if you say so, I'll make heaven and earth meet.. I'll row the oars of my boat in the sea of your love !.. smuggled gold I'll shower on you! . Baji says to himself, wow well written! you read it Bhau..But fed up of Baji's prattle,Dutta pulls off his gloves and goes into his room...wipes his sweat off with his face towel.. while Baji continues with Bhau's letter! and calls out, Bhau? Bhau ? he looks around and realizes his mate has gone to his room..
Baji goes to his room where Dutta is busy giving his revolver a clean.. and Baji protests,.. what is this Bhau? here I am loading the bullet of love in a double barrel gun! and here you are cleaning the snort out of this gun's nose![me chuckling] Bhau really! all my talent is wasted! I can't find anyone to love me! and here Bhau is cleaning the dust out of his gun!
Suddenly Baji feels the gun against his temple! as Dutta says ,I can also fire the gun..and Baji looks into his Bhau's eyes and challenges him.. go on fire then, I offer you my life.. Dutta pokes the gun into Baji's temple and teases, I know! always ready to create dramatic effects! and Dutta chucks his towel and Baji continues to write Dutta's love letter... dearest beloved, Dutta's heart is besotted over you.. and he carries on writing as Dutta stands in his French door.. one arm folded against the door frame his chin resting on it , while the other arm folded behind his back with his gun gripped in his palm..Baji .. gives a whistle! Bhau the letters ready! he folds it and says , now tell me under what name shall I sign it ?.. your beloved? your lover? or your prince charming? ..Dutta gives Baji a freezing look.. and says, look that's enough of your rubbish! and this letter? what will I do with it?.. Baji feels the back of his head and says shyly, aree Bhau,! what can I say its personal to you? here take it, seal it with a kiss! then I'll deliver it. Dutta gives him a look and coldly says, so you swapped your job and have taken up the postman's role?. Baji dances as he says , hey Bhau! for you I'll be a postman too! here comes the post man bringing the message of love... and he capers off merrily..
Dutta, stands near the French window smiling, damn hero is crazy! but has a good heart!.. Dutta concludes as he watches Baji go down the stairs..
Baji prances down the stairs singing post man! post man!.. he comes across Roops, who checks out her nails and mumbles, Leela Tai will love these.. and she turns to leave. Baji spots her and yells out to her, ay Roops !wait a sec! Roops where is vahini? and Roops goes, vahini? who vahini? and Baji explains..you know Dutta Bhau's vahini ? Supriya vahini! and Roops taps her head and replies, oh Supriya vahini, she's just gone to drop her babaa to the bus stand. Baji puts the letter under her nose, and says I have to give her this letter..Roops shows him her painted hands and repeats letter!, sorry ! I have just painted my nails! they'll get ruined , you give her the letter yourself! and she walks off .. and Baji moans , Roops and her airs!, he thinks who else? and suddenly he goes, gee whiz! Baji rao! and he heads towards the kitchen..
Babi and Naku at work in the kitchen. Naku looks lost and blank faced, physically present but mentally elsewhere. Babi calls out, hey Naku chop some onions! I'll prepare the sauce, and listen ! look at the coconut as well. Babi turns to look at a still Naku and yells at her , ay! I am talking to you! why are you standing there! oh deva what's wrong with his girl? she complains.
Baji inches his way to the kitchen door and goes sheeshh! to get Naku's attention who moves her eyes towards him. He beckons her towards him urgently.. Naku looks on and then lowers her eyes , and Baji insists , come here!.Reluctantly Naku goes towards him, but Babi interrupts , Naku! .. and then she sees its Baji and says to Naku , go he's calling you, see what he wants.. he's a crazy fellow this Bajirao!.. and Babi gets back to her cooking, as Naku moves towards Baji, and asks, what is it?. Baji shows her the letter, this is a love letter...Dutta Bhau has sent it. Naku's eyes light up.. and with a smile she asks, who is for?. Baji , irritated says , for you! you crazy girl! who do you think it's written for for? it's for Supriya vahini of course who else? .. and Naku's face loses its smile. Baji presses the letter in her palm and says, she'll be back any minute, you keep this with you, and be careful, no one should know about it when you give it to her, deliver it quietly.. Naku smiles with a nod , and Babi turns to check them both , Baji smiles at her and says, ok I'll leave.
Naku crestfallen looks at the letter in her palm and brings it closes to her face in her palm and looks at the folded piece of paper with envy and desire.Slowly she returns to her work , and Baji's words ring in her ear its' a love letter, Dutta Bhau has sent it for Supriya vahini... Naku covers it with the edge of her chunni and looks on in great sadness , and her big bold eyes , look dead..
Supriya paces back and forth in the outdoor blue peacock sitting area. Naku, hidden away attempts to pass the letter , but Supriya is suddenly approached by Kala and Leela,and Supriya joins them , and the three start talking, so Naku leaves.. discreetly.
Supriya sits alone on the swing , deep in thought. Naku , tries yet again to give the letter to her, but this attempt too is foiled as , Roops joins Supriya for a chit chat.
Later on Supriya sits bored at the dining table, sipping tea. Naku seizes the opportunity again , but suddenly Aye Sahib joins Supriya at the dining table , and asks Naku to get her a glass of water.. so all her attempts to pass Dutta's letter over to Supriya fail..

Outhouse
Limp and lifeless Naku returns to her home.. Sethji sits at his work, obviously enjoying. Naku needs to talk. She asks her brother, but he wants to show his work to her, Tai take a look , it's cool isn't it?.. Naku says, Sethji ,where is Aye?. he replies where do you think? in the kitchen! she's fallen in love with that place! she hardly comes out of there!
Naku looks at the letter concealed in her chunni corner. Sethji slowly looks up her from his work, and says ,what's happened Tai? have you fallen in love too? .Naku hides the letter behind her and slaps her brother! Shut up! don't speak nonsense!.. and he says, oh come on Tai!
Depressed Naku sits at the end of the bed and feels the letter.Then looks to her brother , and asks him., tell me something Sethji , isn't it wrong to read someone's letter?.He looks at her and gives a big toothy smile, you should read it! it's great fun! You know that Suresh in our old neighbourhood! . He had an affair with a girl! and he used to pay me five bucks for every letter delivered! you know I used to take a sneak peek in the letters! and we used to deliver them later after sealing them up! he used to write only movie songs! he used to copy them from a book.. Naku's eyes sparkle and she asks , what else? what else did he write ?. Sethji pulls a face and says, what else! things like you're so beautiful! , you're so pretty like the moon!.. rubbish! and you know what? how he would end the letter? he would write..will you come in my dreams Payal?my heart has been wounded by you .. the idiot wrote such things!
Naku impressed by Sethji's banter , wonders, lost in her thoughts...

Naku and Bappa
Still troubled and heavy laden, Naku finally comes to her best friend, her Bappa ..
She stands in the back drop of the deity Ganpati. She looks around the house, and her eyes travel to Dutta's room, and she looks lovingly towards it... and then her eyes drop to his concealed letter. She exposes it, and slowly unfolds it.. and reads the writing.. she hears his voice in the words.." dear, now that Dutta has fallen for you, now my life belongs to you... really I swear . I miss you badly, your eyes, your face, pink lips, I miss you all the more when I see the moon.. she looks up at his room, the wind comes to life after touching you". Naku turns to face Bappa with tears in her eyes.. she asks, Bappa ! Supriya Tai is so lucky, am I so bad? can't there be a letter for me? why can't my name not be in this letter?.. a tear rolls down her cheek as she turns and goes towards the pond and looks at her face in the shimmering water... the episode ends on the reflection of her dusky face...
Hamlet 53~11. 10. 13.
A fine episode that revolves around the significance of a love letter. Something that was considered an important part of wooing and courtship between lovers right across the centuries till date. A love letter is private expression of love, romance, attraction, where the lover compares his beloved to heavenly bodies, flowers, and universal elements.. simply to convey the magnitude of that person in his /her life.. A love letter is all about informing the beloved about sentiments felt.. and also a query that teases out from the beloved that the feeling is mutual..
Baji starts off by treating the subject and contents of love letter flippantly, but he too in all his fooling about , recognizes its value in making the first step in a bond between two people..
Dutta, didn't give much credence to the idea, as he can see it's a forced situation and certainly not something coming from within him..
Naku sees it, and is devastated by the realization who it's from and for whom.. but naturally its tragic to see her unrequited love..
In the end she believes all the nonsense her brother tells her.. and tragically she ends up reading a letter by Dutta.. which he would not write in a million years even for Nakusha...

Precap: Kala holds up a bottle before Leela , this is poison, I have put it in the air con vent... Supriya Tai ! Naku yells and bangs on her door...
