Hi LTLians,
My Very Own Stranger
Wedding night, yeah her wedding night. Never even in dreams, she has ever thought of marrying a complete stranger. But what has been done is done. She married him with all the proper ceremony. The complete stranger is now her husband and she is his wife. Nopes, not just wife, she thinks wryly, legally wedded wife, as the registration officer had said, when they had registered their marriage. Nakusha rolled her eyes. Legally wedded wife, such a huge title, one which every girl covet. But it does not come alone. It comes with huge responsibilities, some duties and yeah, some rights too. "Am I ready to handle those responsibilities, perform the duties of a wife", she finds herself asking those questions again, the questions without any answers.
"Naku, stop thinking about these things", she reprimanded herself again. She tries to divert her mind. She looks above at the sky and then down at the busy street. What a difference, the peaceful night sky filled up with the stars, the otherworldly feel they imparts while the noisy streets with the vehicles honking horns, brings back the person to reality. Reality, which she needs to focus on now. The marriage is done, she needs to accept this and use the situation to her best.
She comes inside and looks at the room. The suite is quite big and faces east, one can view sunrise too. Not bad. She tries to take in more of her surroundings. There are two armchairs placed near the wall, across the balcony, with a round tea table in the centre. The tea table presently holds a bottle of champagne along with two flute glasses. To the right, there is a study table and a LCD screen on the wall. To the left, there is a wardrobe and the dressing table. The only lights in the room are from the bedside lamp and the candles. The candles are of every color and so beautiful. The room gives a soft, romantic feeling. Well, the man has tastes, she has to concede that. Her eyes then shifts to the king-sized bed at the centre. The white silk sheets and mosquito netting are a perfect contrast to the red roses, decorating it. The bed, her wedding bed, no less. It reminds her of what is supposed to happen tonight. She stops herself from panicking. "Oh come, on, just because you got married, that doesn't mean it should happen today only. You can always tell him, you want to wait, to know each other well before progressing the relationship further. Mom says he's a gentleman. I am sure he won't mind. Yes, I'll talk to him as soon as he comes and sort out the things. But where the hell is he?" As soon as they checked in the hotel, he left her, saying his friends want to spend some time with him. She didn't mind off course, after all she needed some time alone to accept the situation. And he deserves to celebrate his big day. "At least one of them is happy with this marriage", she smiles. But it's so late now and he hasn't returned yet. She wants him to return soon, so she can be over with this talk. It would be awkward but she would tell him everything clearly, she would be a good wife eventually, but she needs time.
She goes to the balcony again and looks at the stars. They look so beautiful, so far and yet so near. She remembers her futile attempt to count them, when she was a child, how she would fail and her dad would console her. Her dad, her super hero, he would never dismiss her star counting as stupidity, but would simply say, "don't worry jaan, there's always a next time". She smiles at the memory. Her dad never wanted to dishearten her by pointing out the impossibility of the goal she had so naively set for herself. It was his way of teaching her not to give up on the things she believes in. She has inherited his tenacity.
She was so lost in her thoughts, she never heard her husband entering the suite.
Precap- He extends his hands towards her, "Hi, I am Dutta Sriram Patil, your father's team member and now your husband." He grinned sheepishly. She takes his extended hand and replied, "Well I am Naku, Nakusha, your wife. Her face unreadable in the dim lighting of the room.
So whats the verdict???
