and a 3 years leap coming up? i hope they meet once again and this time for life.

3 years later…

It was a stormy night, Dutta's car had broken down on his way home and his cellphone was low on battery. He tried reaching Baaji to no avail. No matter what was happening on the outside, he was at peace inside. Had this been any other day, all hell would have broken loose. But tonight was different. It was a strange calm… something he hadn't felt since being with her. There wasn't a day that went by that he didn't think about her. The way she smiled, her giggle, her scent, the innocent look in her eyes and above all, how she made him feel by merely being in the same room. But tonight again was different. He felt as though she was near. "Who am I kidding.. she's probably home safe and sound where she needs to be" he thought out loud and continued walking in the rain. His black pathani soaked completely through outlining every long lean muscle on his body. He reached a quite open road, the rain was just dying down when he heard cars honking at a near distance. It sounded like a bunch of hoodlums out for a joyride he thought and paid it no attention. As he got closer to the sound he could see a group of men standing surrounding something. There was enough light from the street lamp for Dutta to make out a figure in the middle of that circle. He could clearly see it was a woman, her back towards Dutta. He reached the group of men in lightning speed. He was not going to let this happen in his town. Grabbing one of the men from behind he made his presence known. The remaining men looked at him and a sudden fear presented itself in their eyes.

"Bhao.. woh.." said one man. But before he could finish, Dutta struck him with right hand, sending them plummeting to the floor. The rest of the group ran off in different directions leaving the girl in the middle completely visible. Dutta could see scrapes on her tiny weak body. She had her arms wrapped tightly around her chest. Her sari blouse was torn at the sleeves. He could see her blood trickling down her arms probably from the scratches left behind by those men. The intention of those men was very clear. Dutta wasn't sure if the men had succeeded in their gruesome task. All the sudden he noticed she was shivering uncontrollably.

"aye ladki…" he started to say and she turned around slowly. The wind blew her hair off her face to reveal the person standing before him. She looked up slowly to meet his eyes. He couldn't believe what he was looking at. His mouth went dry, his heart started to beat violently. A million thoughts went through his head all at the same time. He looked at her from head to toe. Her sari torn, her blouse in almost pieces, she was bleeding from the corner of her mouth, bruises all over her delicate body. No! he wasn't to scream. This cant be her… he blinked a few times and shook his head. He was seeing things, he tried to convince himself. And then she whispered "Dutta" with tears rolling down her cheeks. The world crumbled all around him and all he could do was stare at her. It was really her.

"Naku?" he finally murmured. They only stood a few feet apart but the distance seemed to be everlasting. With a rush of energy he rushed towards her and wrapped her in an embrace. He could feel her frail body shaking against his strong frame. He felt her body go limp. "Naku! He attempted to wake her up by shaking her ever so slightly. He took off his vest while holding her unconscious body protectively. He covered up her body and picked her up in his strong arms and started looking for shelter. She continued to quiver in his arms. He held her as close as possible without crushing her tiny body. After a few minutes of walking he found a tiny hut. He screamed in front of the door " koi hai" and banged the door with his foot. An elderly man opened the door and instantly recognized Dutta. " Bhao.. aap. Aao, undar aao" and usher Dutta inside. Dutta put Naku down on a small cot next to the wall and covered her with blankets. He thanked the old man for his hospitality. The old man directed him a near by phone and Dutta dialed Baaji.

In no time at all, Baaji picked up Dutta and Naku and drove them to the hospital. Dutta narrated to Baaji the story of how he foud Naku and her state at that time. He ordered Baaji to find all of the men responsible for her condition. He would not rest until those men were found and punished for what they had done to her. He sat in the back seat holding her almost lifeless body close to his. There were so many questions he wanted answers to.. but most of all, where was Prem?! It was his job to protect his wife.. his job to keep her from harms way. He had every intent on getting his answers.

Before long, Nakusha was wheeled into the a room for observation. Dutta and Baaji waited impatiently outside the room. Dr. Menon came out of the room and walked towards Dutta. "She's fine Bhao, she has some major cuts and bruises but nothing serious. I have given her some sedatives to help her sleep. She was very lucky you found her when you did. By the way Bhao, I'm very happy that you brought her here, Dr. Nakusha just joined our staff a little over 2 months ago. Everyone absolutely adores her. In a semi state of shock Dutta listened quietly to the Dr and thought to himself…"she has been here all this time and I didn't know?!" Baaji thanked the Dr and turned to Dutta.

" Bhao, didn't u say that she was married now.. where is her husband?" Seeing that Dutta was lost in his own thoughts, Baaji thought it would be best for him to leave Dutta alone right now. The fury, agony and frustration was visible in Dutta's eyes.

"Bhao, I will stay here until she wakes up.." Before Baaji could finish his sentence Dutta interrupted him. "No!, the only one staying with MY Naku is me! Understand!" Baaji knew it was best not to argue with Dutta when it came to Naku so instead he said he'd go and find out more about Prem and his whereabouts.

In Nakusha's hospital room:

Dutta walked into the room and looked at her sleeping still. She looked like she had aged since the last time he saw her. The life, the happiness was missing from her face. It didn't have the usual glow. But then again, what could he really expect, after the ordeal that she had just been through. He pulled the chair next to her bed and sat down. At sone point during the night he had fallen asleep holding on to her hand. Even in her deep sleep she could feel his warmth and held on to his hand tight. She knew no matter what, it would all be okay now.

Well Dutta wouldnt have dreamt he would be meeting naku after all those years in this condition even thou' she is always in his thoughts. Gosh! what happened to her husband if at all she married him? She is been there for 2 months nd she did not meet him, so there is something she is hiding. Dutta will not rest till he has the answers im sure. He is riled up nd didnt spare even baji😳.
