It had been two days that Naku had started working on the design of the invitation and the menu. Leela particularly mentioned that it had to be sassy; in sync with the food and the ambience. Naku had been working hard for it. She had been to the venue, saw the place, and inspected the pantry area herself. Roops was busy with the custody matters and their client Dutta Shriram Patil was attending some conference out of the country. Baji had told her that there were no chances of his getting back before the weekend, so she was left alone peacefully. She could not possibly leave the entire arrangement to some hired staff; it was the first big leap of their dear Leela's dream turn into reality.
A year and a half ago, Leela had moved in with Roops and Naku in that apartment. Leela was a struggling model then; trying to make it big on the ramps. She needed money to fulfil her dreams, and boy she dreamt big. She was essentially a passionate culinary artist, and dreamt of opening a chain of food joints, but with her meagre wage behind every photo shoot, she wasn't left over with much savings at the end of every month. Initially Naku had offered to sponsor her moves with the help of her father Mr. Shashikant Chauhan, but Leela happily turned it down. For a daughter of a retired English professor of JNU Delhi, Leela was too self reliant.Leela's family lived at the outskirts of Kolkata, ever since her father had retired. They were a family of three – Leela, her father Mr. Madhusudan Pundir and his distant second aunt, whom Leela lovingly called 'Dranny', as in Granny a childish slip which was still in vogue. Her mother suffered insomniac syndrome and had died due to a major cardiac attack, after consuming too many sleeping pills, when Leela was merely twelve.
After about six months of hard work and unreliability in the glamour industry, Leela got a well paid job, in a famous international airlines industry as a flight stewardess. She was shocked beyond reasons, to find out that she was one of very few the shortlisted candidates. It was Naku and Roops' collaborative idea to upload Leela's resume and photographs in the company's website.
Ever since then, Leela did not have to look back. Both Naku with her designs skills and Roops with her skills in photography, looked after the promotional and design part of Leela's dream. Baji helped out in the legal and financial department, Leela was left to just hire temp services providing extra cooks and staffs needed for an event, that they might hitch up with. So far, it had only been small birthday parties and homecomings of near and dear one of a family. This new prospective project is a huge one, larger than life.
A mug of black coffee, helped Naku relax, breaking her chain of creative thoughts, that created a riot in her brain. She was standing at the balcony of their tenth floor apartment, at the hub of the city, looking down at the night life. She got lost in between the high rising walls and huge street lights, amongst the chaos of the honking horns and vehicles running. She took in a deep breath, released it and said aloud to herself "Your pollution gives me the energy to live, the chaos all around you creates the ambience a sound sleep. You are the crown jewel. Gosh! I love you Lady Kolkata"
"Yes, you do" came the reply. Naku turned around to see Roops with her toddler in her arms smiling warmly at her. Naku returned her smile and asked her how it went at the judge's office.
The brilliance of Roops' smile, illuminating her entire face, said it all. She was in for a big big win. It was always a win win situation, but Roops was always apprehensive. Naku felt proud of Baji, who stood beside Roops for over a year and left no stones unturned for her to win the custody. She was happy that, finally Roops' ghastly days would be over and her best friend, her childhood sweetheart would be together with the woman of his dreams.
