most popular name on Indian television. After being around for a
good ten years, Hiten wants to take up something more challenging.
"I've always maintained that I'm open to doing films," he says. A
few years ago Tejwani had done cameos in a couple of Pritish Nandy
films. "They were small parts. I even played a small role in Subhash
Ghai's Joggers Park . But that was then. Now, what I'd really want
to do is a good cameo. With parallel cinema coming in, one has more
options." Hiten's demand is justified. "I will not do the blink-and-
miss roles," he says.
There has been immense support from wife Gauri Pradhan. Ask him if
she too is interested in seeing herself on the big screen. "Gauri
was the one who insisted that I do those cameos in those films
earlier in my career. She is my strength. She is one person I always
rely on. I feel she is more mature than me," he admits.
Sensible cinema is Hiten's calling. Shyam Benegal and Rituparno
Ghosh are you listening?
