This story continues on from the current track. I find it hard to believe that Abhi hasn't had the slightly suspicion that Pragya is innocent or that something is amiss. Hopefully that will change soon, but in the mean time, here's a story to keep you entertained. Please read and review!
Chapter 1:
"Pragya Bahu, put down those decorations and come here", Dadi called out to her frazzled daughter-in-law. Pragya had been rushing around the house since she came downstairs this morning. Being the Mehra's bahu meant being responsible for every function in the upcoming wedding. While her relationship with her husband may be horrible, Pragya took her responsibilities as a daughter-in-law very seriously.
She made her way over to where the ladies of the house were all gathered around a pile of suits of the latest fashions and brightest, liveliest colors.
"Come, take your pick. You have to look your best for the sangeet. After all, it's your sister-in-law that's getting married". Motioning to the plethora of dresses in front of her, Dadi warmly ushered Pragya to sit next to her.
"But I have plenty of new suits Dadi. There's no need for this", Pragya insisted, although she knew any attempts to reject Dadi's requests were futile.
"Nonsense, think of it as my gift to you. You won't reject my gift will you?"
Pragya meekly shook her head as Dadi smiled.
"Ah look Abhi is her, he can help you choose. After all, a husband always knows what looks best on his wife"
His Dadi's words managed to stop Abhi in his steps. He had intended to be an escape to his room, away from all the prying aunties and dadis but of course now that wasn't going to happen.
Pragya looked up in surprise as the ladies around her began to laugh. Of course he would walk in right now. Even though they tried to avoid each other as much as possible, they were pushed together into situations like these more than either of them thought possible.
"Dadi, I have more important things to do than watch madam her put on a fashion show"
Abhi knew he had said the wrong thing as soon as his Dadi's face morphed from joy to anger. Damn this chashmish, because of her, he seems to always get on Dadi's bad side.
"I... I mean, Pragya is very sensible and can choose her own outfit. I'm sure she'll look good in anything". Abhi's attempt to backtrack had managed to calm the outraged women around Pragya, but her own face was still hesistant, imagining the teasing that was about to ensue.
"Dadi, I already have a suit that I was planning on wearing. I don't need another." Pragya didn't want to take more than she already had. She didn't need to give her dear husband another reason taunt her.
Abhi wanted to roll his eyes. Honestly, how did she manage to fool everyone?
"Pragya, why waste this opportunity. I'm sure you'll never tire of gifts and dresses". Pragya stared angrily at Abhi. How dare he bring up his stupid opinions in front of his family? She suffered enough of his jabs in private but this was more than she could tolerate.
"No thank you. I'm fine with what I have and always have been". She wasn't going to let Abhi start an argument in front of Dadi who was already worried about their relationship.
Pragya stood and turned to Dadi smiling, wanting to ease her tension. "Dadi, I'm happy with the suit I picked out. It's one that you gave me during our wedding, so there's no need for this". Knowing that Dadi would most likely still protest, Pragya hurried upstairs to her room. She needed to get away from Dadi's doting and Abhi's accusations.
Abhi looked confusingly up at his wife who was running quickly up the stairs. This chashmish makes no sense! Any girl would have taken up Dadi's offer of the latest fashionable suits, especially one who had married him for these things. Then why did she refuse?
He massaged his head with his hand feeling a headache coming on. Lately his head seemed to always be full of thoughts of Pragya, her actions and her intentions, which seem to never add up. If she was after his wealth, why did she always act as if she didn't want his money or accept gifts? Something wasn't right. Or maybe she had hypnotized him again?!
"Dadi, I'm going to head upstairs". Not waiting for a reply, Abhi headed towards his room. He needed some time alone to sort out his thoughts before one of the ladies began to offer up their opinion on how to console his wife.
