This story continues on from the current track. I find it hard to believe that Abhi hasn't had the slightly suspicion that Pragya is innocent or that something is amiss. Hopefully that will change soon, but in the mean time, here's a story to keep you entertained. Please read and review!

Chapter 1:

"Pragya Bahu, put down those decorations and come here", Dadi called out to her frazzled daughter-in-law. Pragya had been rushing around the house since she came downstairs this morning. Being the Mehra's bahu meant being responsible for every function in the upcoming wedding. While her relationship with her husband may be horrible, Pragya took her responsibilities as a daughter-in-law very seriously.

She made her way over to where the ladies of the house were all gathered around a pile of suits of the latest fashions and brightest, liveliest colors.

"Come, take your pick. You have to look your best for the sangeet. After all, it's your sister-in-law that's getting married". Motioning to the plethora of dresses in front of her, Dadi warmly ushered Pragya to sit next to her.

"But I have plenty of new suits Dadi. There's no need for this", Pragya insisted, although she knew any attempts to reject Dadi's requests were futile.

"Nonsense, think of it as my gift to you. You won't reject my gift will you?"

Pragya meekly shook her head as Dadi smiled.

"Ah look Abhi is her, he can help you choose. After all, a husband always knows what looks best on his wife"

His Dadi's words managed to stop Abhi in his steps. He had intended to be an escape to his room, away from all the prying aunties and dadis but of course now that wasn't going to happen.

Pragya looked up in surprise as the ladies around her began to laugh. Of course he would walk in right now. Even though they tried to avoid each other as much as possible, they were pushed together into situations like these more than either of them thought possible.

"Dadi, I have more important things to do than watch madam her put on a fashion show"

Abhi knew he had said the wrong thing as soon as his Dadi's face morphed from joy to anger. Damn this chashmish, because of her, he seems to always get on Dadi's bad side.

"I... I mean, Pragya is very sensible and can choose her own outfit. I'm sure she'll look good in anything". Abhi's attempt to backtrack had managed to calm the outraged women around Pragya, but her own face was still hesistant, imagining the teasing that was about to ensue.

"Dadi, I already have a suit that I was planning on wearing. I don't need another." Pragya didn't want to take more than she already had. She didn't need to give her dear husband another reason taunt her.

Abhi wanted to roll his eyes. Honestly, how did she manage to fool everyone?

"Pragya, why waste this opportunity. I'm sure you'll never tire of gifts and dresses". Pragya stared angrily at Abhi. How dare he bring up his stupid opinions in front of his family? She suffered enough of his jabs in private but this was more than she could tolerate.

"No thank you. I'm fine with what I have and always have been". She wasn't going to let Abhi start an argument in front of Dadi who was already worried about their relationship.

Pragya stood and turned to Dadi smiling, wanting to ease her tension. "Dadi, I'm happy with the suit I picked out. It's one that you gave me during our wedding, so there's no need for this". Knowing that Dadi would most likely still protest, Pragya hurried upstairs to her room. She needed to get away from Dadi's doting and Abhi's accusations.

Abhi looked confusingly up at his wife who was running quickly up the stairs. This chashmish makes no sense! Any girl would have taken up Dadi's offer of the latest fashionable suits, especially one who had married him for these things. Then why did she refuse?

He massaged his head with his hand feeling a headache coming on. Lately his head seemed to always be full of thoughts of Pragya, her actions and her intentions, which seem to never add up. If she was after his wealth, why did she always act as if she didn't want his money or accept gifts? Something wasn't right. Or maybe she had hypnotized him again?!

"Dadi, I'm going to head upstairs". Not waiting for a reply, Abhi headed towards his room. He needed some time alone to sort out his thoughts before one of the ladies began to offer up their opinion on how to console his wife.

Here's the next chapter. It's short but I'll try to update again soon. Thank you so much for the comments!

Chapter 2

She rejects any offer of money or gifts but looked beyond upset at the engagement. She takes care of Dadi more than anyone else in this family but that could be to fool everyone into thinking she's the ideal bahu. But then why would she go to such lengths to defend me in front of the family?! Dammit I'm a rockstar not a teacher like chashmish, how am I supposed to figure this out.

Abhi continued to massage his head as he paced back and forth in his room. He was a clear-cut guy and to him most people were either with him or against him. And Pragya was most definitely against him. Right?

"But then why - ", his pacing was interrupted by an outstretched hand holding a glass of water and tablets.

"Here, take this medicine, you're headache will go away." Pragya's tone was sharp.

"Look madam, you can't order me around. Fix your tone before I do it for you." How dare this banji try to command him like one of her students?

"Your face shows that you're clearly in pain and its worrying Dadi. Don't think I'm doing this out of care for you, especially with the scene you were trying to create downstairs"

"Scene?! You're the one putting on an act in front of my entire family, making me look bad."

Abhi towered over Pragya but she held her head high. Yes she was simple but she knew how to hold her ground. Her dignity had been the price of keeping her sister out of harms way but that didn't mean she had to take Abhi's anger.

"The only thing that is turning your family against you is your own behavior. But if you can't see that in their anger and lectures is their love then maybe you should work on opening your own eyes to the truth. You might see things a little differently." Pragya put down the glass of water and tablets on the coffee table, turning around and leaving the room with her husband standing silent behind her.

As she walked down the stairs she surveyed the house, full of colors and the energy that accompanied any happy occasion. People were bustling around trying to decorate every inch of space left empty and Pragya saw the smiles on the family's faces as they saw their home get ready to celebrate Aaliya's marriage.

But amongst these faces, she also saw Purab, quietly taking in the joy, while his own face was clouded with despair and sadness. Pragya wanted to feel bad for him. After all, he was victim to his situation like she was to hers. But then she thought of her sister and she couldn't help but think he was somewhat responsible.

However, the actual culprit here was Aaliya, whose stubbornness and envy had lead to multiple lives being ruined. Abhi was trapped in his affection towards his baby sister and Purab knew her well enough to know that she wouldn't let him live in peace if he didn't take her back. Pragya also kept her mouth shut but not for herself, but her sister. Bulbul hadn't done anything wrong and she was worried what Abhi would do once he found out that not only had she hid the truth from him, but that their marriage was for naught. She couldn't let him find out the truth, at least not yet.

Except his insults and taunts were getting worse and she didn't know how long she could keep in her tears and even her anger. She wanted to scream at him every time he implied she was after his money, that her affection for his family, for Dadi, was a farce. She had hoped he would see reason after their marriage, understand that she wasn't at all what he thought she was, but he was blinded by his love for his sister. She could only pray to God that things worked out.

Pragya quickly wiped the tears that were beginning to form in the corner of her eyes and walked towards one of the workers, falling back into the role of a dutiful daughter-in-law. She was unaware of the pair of eyes that looked at her from above, confusion swimming in the irises of the individual who didn't know what to make of this chashmish.
