Ashuthosh stare as if he is dazed. Wiping his tears he moves forward "MOM!! When you came to india.You should have called me at least."Without even looking at Ashu , his mom move forward and open all the windows "Hmmm now it's better , , you should always keep the windows open ashuthsoh , sunlight always cheer us up irrespective of our mood " and look at ashu smilingly.
Ashu look away to avoid her gaze which is fixed on him now. no one speak for a second ,Ashu feel as if all the silence condensed in this room . it's his mother who break the silence first , it is more like whisper " Ashuthosh we are getting separated ..Me and your papa "
Ashu look at her questioningly and muter to himself "Why now Mom ….After all these years .I mean!" His mother cut him in between and continues "Have I ever told you that you just like your father, always hiding everything behind those deep eyes!"
She continues "When I first met you papa , he was just like you , always keeping things to himself , never letting out and the smile ..So innocent and breath taking!! I was smitten in first meeting only…He was like every girls dream , handsome , ambitious , smart same time caring , soft spoken and well mannered "
He used to work for my father ..Every day I went to office just to see him , to be near him . I was so much in love with your father!! Then one day, I saw them together, your father and that..That women, I saw them going out holding each other hands , smiling ..and they both looked happy , content in each other's company . Your father, he loved her dearly.and still love!! It broke my heart first but then what can I do!
But fate gave me a chance to get him in my life, his father faced major loss in business and he got a attack.Your dada!! Your father family was in great debt!..Your father, he just stated his career and no way could he have arranged so much money. My father always knew abt my feeling toward your father so one day he met him and made a deal that if he marry me in return all his debt will be cleared .Now when I think back , I feel ashamed for even supporting my father in such things . Instead of helping him in those dark days I preferred to think abt my happiness.
Your father did not had much choice, he agreed to this marriage that is the only he could have saved his family breaking apart. He sacrificed his love for his family and we got married! Ashuthosh do you remember Meera aunty , the one who used to come our delhi house with lot of gift for you , you always liked to sit on her lap ..You remember?" Ashu nod his head and look at his mother questioningly " is she the one Mom ..papa loved !, did he cheated on you ?"
His mom sigh! "I wish Ashuthosh, that your papa cheated on me .. I wish , atleast the guilt which I am feeling would have been less !" After a while she continue again "Your papa , he never cheated on me . even though there were plenty of opportunities , he did not abandoned me nor you in middle ! he is good man Ashuthosh and he kept his promise till date..its just that he never loved me not even came close to that"
You see Ashuthosh in this world there exist few people , For them love happen only once ..they continue to love the same person till their last breath irrespective of situation and your father belong to that group ! After getting married , I thought I can make him fall in love with me ..I thought by bearing his son, he might love me ..I was so blinded with love that I failed to see his pain ..I never understood "
And then you came into our life , your papa loved you so much and still love you, there is no doubt! It's just that he turned bitter with each passing year, I heard pain do such things to a person .His starry eyes turned gloomy and then become harder , his lips twitched and his face become stern..He mastered all tactic to hide his emotions..Never letting out! All those years if I saw some flicker of emotions in his eyes only when you are with him! I felt we are moving apart and it scared me , I could never imagine my life without him ..I tried to hold on everything possible to pull him back in my life ..he never shouted at me or cursed .its his silence which haunted me , it's his indifference scared me !
I was so immersed in winning your papa's heart that I forgot completely abt my little boy.you Ashuthosh! Whenever your throwed some tantrum I failed to see it is my little boy's way to ask for his mama attention ..I failed to see the little boy who long for his mother to hold and cuddle him. I was not their when my little boy needed me the most, I…I just never gave you one thing which you looked for..Love!"Today when I think ..I feel not only as a wife even as a mother I failed….I..I mean ….don't hate me, don't hate your mother Ashuthosh ..don't hate me " by this time she was sobbing softly .ashu just get up and hug her dearly and reply "Mom , I don't hate you…Mom "
His mom look straight in his eyes " Mallika called me , she told me abt you and nidhi "
Ashu let go off her and move away to avoid her gaze "Ashuthosh, our marriage did not worked because we were not meant to be together, your papa never loved me!"
Ashu shake his head in confusion sensing his silence she continue " Ashu , your old enough to differentiate what is good and what is bad for you , I don't want o force anything on you ..but I want to tell few things "
"Love will not come in everyone's life , it is not written in everyone's fate ..Everyone are not fortunate enough to cherish it Ashuthosh ..only few get it throughout , very few and rest live, searching thought their life , don't spoil this , you might end up regretting all your life"
Ashu get up and speak " Mom , I thought you always favored Mallika , I thought you always wanted her to be your daughter in law .i never expected you to accept nidhi so soon "
His mom laugh and reply " ohh you don't know , how happy I felt when mallika called me to tell that you are in love with a girl "
Ashu stare " what do you mean by IN LOVE WITH A GIRL ? wait a minute ,,Mom you thought that ..that ..that I am into boys …ohh god how can you even think like that "
Mom: Ohh don't blame me , you were so different , I never saw your going out with any girl or showing any interest . when mallika came I thought you will settle down but then again you refused to marry her ..You confused me ..do you have any idea how many night I got up with nightmares where you are with some…. some……And you know how many time I bugged your father to talk to you "
Ashu : you told papa also ..un believable Mom ….
Then suddenly they both burst out laughing hard till tear come into their eyes ..Abruptly his mom stops laughing and speak " Bu now I know why my son refused …why he feared to get married...you asked why after all these years ..well I don't want to see your papa becoming even more bitter ..i want to see him as happy person he once was ..I don't want my son to break apart for mistakes I did ..i want to fix this ..i want another chance to be good again ..ashuthosh "
Ashu lokk at his mother as he feel a puzzle which looked so complicated is just solved, he can see clear sky ..he feel so light headed " Mom you can come and stay with me ..after .. mean after divorce ..you know that rite ?"
JHis mother look at him affectionately cup his face in her hands and whisper ' you are one fine young man Ashuthosh …you know that rite ?Now go to her ..get her will you ?" ashu nod his head as his mother again speak " your father is happy for you both ..I gave him the news already..I asked him to cal you tomorrow.in case you are busy today …with nidhi of course "
Hearing nidhi's name ashu lips stretched till he grinned " ohh stop grinning like fool ..now go to her ..hurry !:
That's all he heard as he ran outside searching nidhi.
