Excellent analysis! Admittedly I am not sure if we can give the writers that much credit in regards to understanding the definition of feminism. There may have been differing view points in the writer's room reflecting in some of the inconsistencies that we have seen.
However, I have felt for a long time that Dev is one of the most feminist characters I've watched on Indian TV. Far more than Sona. I feel Sona is very much a character caught up in her own internalized misogyny which is reflected in her desperate need for approval from others. Dev, from the beginning, is a character that rejects the need to assimilate societal norms. That allows him to see people as individuals instead of restricting them to gender roles. That's why we can see him empowering Riya and Kajal. And he's not doing it for the sake of it... to come across as a feminist. Unlike how Bijoy is depicted, this is not benevolent sexism. Dev sees them as individuals not defined by their gender.

Jenny...that was really a stupendous post. And the most interesting part is that, it was not at all an untimely post. It was very much needed at this hour, especially because, the makers are currently in the mood of taking the great Devrath Dixit on a guilt trip, which has annoyed even some of the neutral viewers like me.
And reading your post was like having heavy rains in a dry parched land. And the way you have presented it, is again forcing me to believe that whatever the makers are showing is being done after lots of research and discussions and that the show will be back in its old tracks.

Keep writing, as only writers like you along with many of our writers here can still maintain the required optimism & positivity that is right now needed for the show. Do visit our weekly analysis thread to read through various wonderful write-ups & perspectives about each episode & character.

awesome post Jenny...it was indeed a pleasure to have such a deep analysis...it is rare to see men supporting and appreciating their woman..most of the men in our society have ego problems and they never appreciate wives for anything...I have seen most of the wives complaining about not being appreciated...if his family was supportive and truly wanted him to be happy, he cud become the best husband...
