For Sona, Dev is still stuck in the same place she left him seven years ago, and to be fair, he doesn't do much to contradict that impression in her eyes. This is where Elena is instrumental. In S1, she was instrumental in helping Sona admit and surrender to her feelings for Dev. Even then, she was the pragmatic one, advising Sona not to take pontential rejection so seriously. Yesterday, I saw her assuming an updated, married lady version of that same role.

CVs, I could really, really use some more depth for this character. Can we have a conversation about his late wife? What was their story? Does he soulmate-love Sona, or does he see her as a great potential life partner? Did Sona know his wife, and when/how did she pass away? Jatin's character is extremely flat at the moment, even compared to Natasha and Ritwick which is uncharacteristic for this show. Since he is playing such a pivotal role in the story at the moment, I would really like to care about and relate to him much more than I currently do.

Bolded - Sam, you read my mind out. Elena is what Neha, Riya & Nikki could not be to Dev. The warmth she feels when she calls Dev bhai is in real. It would not be an exaggeration, if it turns out that it was for sirf and sirf Dev only, Elena sticked on to the Trixits. Because she didn't want to deprive Dev of Golu, which was Dev's breathe of fresh air.

Bold&Italic - I am also waiting for unravelling of more details of Jatin's past. And since I feel Jatin is to stay in the show more than all the other third angles, hope these details will be given atleast as a summarised flashback.

Dev was devoted to Ishu before. He actually worshipped her and she was his god literally. But after his separation with Sona, he did get to know flaws and the weakness of Ishu. He got to know she is possessive in her affection towards him and cant share him with anyone. He is her weakness. He now understands his mother is not that godly figure but human. He doesn't worship her certainly but the respect for her is still the same. So nowhere his respect stems out of sympathy due to her identity or education .

Her picture perfect now has some visible flaws but his heart fails to visionize the flaws in a big way. He is deeply hurt by her indifference to the soul mate of his life. He doesn't want to question her but understands it is the mere circumstances and her failure to even remotely attempt to acknowledge and accept Sona with all her goodness. He has been inflicting his hurt onto himself for the past 7 years by staying in IN but away from his emotional tangents towards his mother, than deserting his mother who was the sole cause of his existence. He is not wrong as a devoted son but yes...wrong as a dutiful husband.

Being fair to one caused unfairness towards the other.

Lastly, it was very cute that Jatin read Dev like a book. I am all for this love-hate bromance. He cleverly sidestepped all the Dev-Sona mind games and went to meet Soha, which he knows is not Dev's problem any more. But what was with threatening Vicky so openly? Vicky still poses a significant threat to Sona and Soha and Jatin isn't in IN to follow through on his threats. Wouldn't it have been better just to go with a "jo sochna hai such lo" kind of response? Is this Jatin's lover-boy junoon? 😕 On the other hand, could this confrontation be a foreshadowing of a possible Jatin-Elena pairing?

Sam

As usual a thought provoking post from you. Loved your sum up on Elena totally.

I can't really feel the same way about Jatin though. Are you really serious when you said Jatin read Dev like a book? I have my own doubts regarding his behaviour which is confusing and intriguing.
When Dev asked him not to visit Dixit mansion (outside the Bose House ) he so generously agreed to do so and confirmed his co operation, the issue being Dev spending time with Soha without disturbance.

Then why did he come on his own to visit Soha? Did he forget his gentleman promise? Or conveniently overlooked to make it a point to visit Soha?

It is Dev's goodness to allow him to visit his daughter. Doesn't he know this also can trigger their differences and fuel Dev's Fire? Or he wants that only? How genuine he is in lending his support to his close friend and her ex husband in co parenting Soha?

I feel Dev and Sona are not playing mind games since both are frank and certain in clashing with each other every time. It looks like Jatin is playing mind game by being un predictable and confusing. I fail to see bromance yet I am sorry.

His interaction with Vicky and GKB again contradicts his image that he carefully built up for Sona's sake. It is unlikely that Jatin whom we know would go to the extent of threatening Vicky. Again he confirmed my belief. He is not what he appears like. There must be something more secretive about this guy.

One thing I am sure he is not like Dev who wears his heart on his sleeve.

I hope he will emerge good and harmless. There are enough schemers and antogonists to make it difficult for Dev...also for Sonakshi.

As for Khatri, I still think that the answer is straightforward. Ishwari agreed to sleep with him in order to keep a roof above her children's heads. Before the leap, it seemed obvious how this would affect Dev and Ishwari's relationship because he worshipped her and thought she could do no wrong. It would have served as Dev's moment of disillusionment. After the leap, it is not so clear. Dev and Ishwari's relationship, not to mention Dev himself, has changed so much.

Over the last seven years, in pursuit of his own happiness, Dev has actually expanded his mind a lot. A guy who once said he was only interested in the once in a lifetime kind of love, not the once a month kind, found that the once a month kind has its own merits when the once in a lifetime fails for whatever reason. He has a much more liberal view on that now. More importantly, he has already been disenchanted by his god, and has glimpsed and resigned himself to Ishwari's human fallibility with the whole Sona episode.

He acknowledged yesterday that Ishwari stood like a wall between the kids and her troubles as a single woman. And that, I think is exactly the point. Ishwari's character has always been obsessed with this culturally ingrained concept of the perfect mother, one whose happiness lies exclusively in serving her children. As she said to Golu, main sirf ma hoon. The reason that Khatri has so much power is because, whatever that secret is, Ishwari thinks it will tear her family apart. She believes that her being a perfect mother is indispensible, and that showing her human side is a death sentence.

So I think this reveal will be much more about Ishwari's relationship with herself than her relationship with Dev. When Dev respects her all the more for her so-called fallibility, and short circuits this necessity in her head to be that perfect mother, she can begin to embrace her mistakes and her flaws as a human woman and heal from the trauma of her early widowhood -- the root of her overpowering insecurities and her crippling anxiety.

I think it worked the other way too. She didn't want to deprive Golu of Dev, who was his whole world, and who was genuinely interested in taking care of him. I respect Elena for that. She wants to be a good mother in princple, as we have seen when she tries to get Golu to do homework/go to piano class/to eat but it doesn't come from the heart because neither is she particularly maternal, nor did she want a child at that point in her life (remember how much she scoffed at Sona getting pregnant?). The great thing is that unlike Vicky, she does't begrudge Dev and Golu's bond at all, but gives Dev credit for doing what she can't.

@Lakshmi: I thought it was telling that Dev behaved exactly as Jatin said he would. He said his do-chaar baatein and then let Jatin go see Soha. Sona gets stuck on the do-chaar baatein while Jatin saw through them to the fact that Dev is a reasonable man and won't keep him from visiting Soha. The truth is, they settled the Soha issue when Dev asked Jatin to leave that day, and Jatin did. Jatin saw that Dev didn't make a huge issue about the fish to avoid upsetting Soha, and Dev saw that Jatin respected his wishes as Soha's father.

The issue was techinically closed then and there, but Dev continues to have a problem with Jatin's presence. Jatin knows exactly why, as shown by his attempt to talk to Dev when he was feeding Golu and his reaction to Dev warning him to stay away from *Suhana*. The way I saw it, Jatin was just like... you guys do your weird Devakshi dance; I am going to go see Soha. Kthanksbye.

Laxmi, Jatin and Dev are contrasting characters for "perfect on paper". In the movie I mentioned previously, the guy she starts dating is a good guy who has good manners, is gentle, has a stable job with good income, something that would make anyone happy.

The other guy is rude, is usually sarcastic, very similar to Dev. She first sees him in the garden of the apartment community and thinks he is the gardener there. He then fixes something in her apartment(plumbing I think). She asks what he does there, he gives vague answers. Due to his actions and words she assumes that he is a homeless guy who does odd jobs to live. Only towards the end she gets to know that he owns that apartment community where she wanted an apartment, he also has few other such communities around the city, is a partner in the restaurant where she sees him cooking, has invested in the food truck she saw him driving(he was helping the friend who owns it as he was not feeling well). The guy is also an MBA graduate when she thought he was not well educated.

Looking at him nobody would know that he is rich or anything about him. What he shows outside is not at all who he is. If the first guy is ordinary then the second guy is extraordinary in that movie.

In yesterday's episode when Sonakshi implies that his mother is very attached to him and he too, he doesn't correct her. He just says of course. He no longer is interested in what anyone thinks of him. He doesn't want to change her misconception about him. He doesn't find it hard to take blame for theft without thinking of consequences. I am not sure even with all the loyalty if Jatin will be able to do something like that. Put his own reputation and honor on the line for Bose family.

In one the season 1 episode during Kushal's track, Bijoy says that he had chosen to hide the diamond in the garden and cover it with mud as he did not know the value of it. Dev is just like that. He is a diamond in the rough. All he needs is polishing.

Similarly Sonakshi right now is "khara sona(24 carats gold). She needs to become not the khara sona so that the diamond can be mounted and made into a beautiful ring.

All that I wanted to say was Jatin is a sweet guy with good qualities, but not a great guy with unusual qualities. Something that compliments Sonakshi.

Very well explained. Thanks for an elaborate one. I felt the same way since I saw a similar movie in Tamil. The unusual turns out to be extra ordinary and the heroine chooses him in the end.
You are right. Jatin is good but Dev is great. I agree Sona complements him in every way . Like I said in my previous post Dev is a gem and Sona has to identify his reality . Then the gem and gold easily fit together and shine with lustre.

Hey Everyone!
I'm loving the analyses and the thread here! (as usual).👏👏

Has anyone interpreted the mirror image of Sona, along with her actual presence during the 'coffee' scene with Dev sitting on the jhoola?
