Loved it. ❤️
Dev is truly living for himself, and I was very happy to see that. All his life, he thought he had to be totally in control, in step with God himself, or else his family would suffer. For a long time, when they were destitute, struggling to make ends meet, and didn't have a roof over their heads that was true. But when they finally came out of that poverty materially, Ishwari's insecurities began to take shape. The past was where her life held meaning and she had control; in the scary new present, she was under threat of becoming completely ineffectual in her own household. As a result she allowed her children to take advantage of the material comforts they had earned, but she never let them leave the headspace of poverty and survival.
But when Dev met Sona, for the first time, he really, really wanted to, and he genuinely thought that he had Ishwari's support in this. At that time, he was still willing to bear the brunt of that survival mentality, if only he was allowed a little bit of time and space with Sona. But he was not even given this opportunity, and when Sona finally left, he snapped. The Dev I see now is thinking like a business man who is very secure in his assets, who isn't scared of anything. He now has both the intelligence and the attitude that allows him to make the most money while putting in the least effort, and he no longer feels bound by principle.
His conversation with Vicky was like manna to the soul! This is exactly the Dev I wanted to see and I am absolutely thrilled by his devil-may-care attitude and his blunt derision of Vicky's ineptitude. In stark contrast was his attitude towards Vicky's son. Today it was revealed that Dev has been going to all of Golu's PTA meetings, that they are best friends, and that Dev has unconventional ways of making sure this kid gets the help he needs. But most of all, he makes sure that Golu knows he is loved and I think that is a much more important contribution than grades.
Golu's comment about how hard it was being Dev's best friend was an adorable throwback to all the times Dev has said those very words to Sona, "I am a complicated man, and it isn't easy to live with me." And while Golu, with his report about the PTM and ice-cream eating reminded everyone at Ishwari Nivas about Sona, Suhana reminded Sona of Dev with her little joke. It was a beautiful contrast to know the memories that comment elicited just as Bijoy declared that Suhana was Sona's daughter alone. Sona is already beginning to see how that isn't true.
Promises. They don't ever go away on this show, do they? But here it is Dev who keeps his promise to Golu while Bijoy makes the impossible promise of not getting angry again to Suhana. Suhana promises that she won't ever leave Sona because there is nobody else who will love her mother that much. I wouldn't dare say this out there in the forum, but I hear distinct echoes of Dev and Ishwari. It's easy for Suhana to make this promise now, but what happens when she meets her supposedly boring and spineless dad and finds she loves him to death? Also, why didn't Sona offer her the option of meeting her dad but not staying with him forever? Did it have to be all or nothing? Much like Sona herself, Suhana is picking up on what would make the adults in her life happy and going with that. So far there is no conflict because what they want doesn't present a challenge to what she wants yet.
Finally, the stage for Dev and Sona's possible meeting is set, and it is rife with symbolism. Their first dance, their first ostensiby romantic moment, was at an award function. Then, Dev was receiving the award and Sona was his employee. Today she is standing beside him, receiving an award of her own. And Ishwari will be conspicously absent from the proceedings. Dev, who hasn't attended an awards function in years is apparently very eager to show off his supercool, new lifestyle. He hesitates only for a moment, the old doubtful Dev resurfacing, before he declares that he will be in attendance. He knows what Sona is expecting, and he's getting ready to knock her socks off. 😉
