Jan 13 KRPKAB Epi - Of Distrust, Sacrifice, Broken Ties & Shattered Lives
The episode which brought an End to the beautiful relationship called DevAkshi.
I am not adopting any of my typical writing styles today. Instead, I will try and analyze each significant scene & present my own interpretation of the same.
Boses Ouster From Home
Vicky played a simple, yet very effective game & had the Boses ousted out of their home. All were shocked & initially didn't want to believe that Dev was behind all this. But Sona emphatically stating that she believes Dev is capable of stooping to the lowest level to satisfy his ego, appeared logical to all except Saurabh. Thank God, at least one sensible soul still remains in the Bose family.
Asha's advice to Sona on a woman's self-respect Vs responsibilities as a bahu, though well-intentioned, was very ill-timed. Sona had already made up her mind to confront Dev & this gave her the much-needed approval that she was on the right track.
Sona-Ish Face-Off
This was one of the highlights of the episode where Sona said a few truths which Ish was not comfortable hearing.
Ish's 'Bachpan se hi mera dev ek achcha bhai aur ek achcha beta banke raha hai. Jab tum aayi, mujhe laga tum uski madat karogi. Par aisa nahi hua, woh tumhari wajah se apni zimmedariyon se door hota gaya got her a fitting reply from Sona ..'Aapne toh Dev ko apne aanchal se baandhke rakha hai, unhe toh apna decision lena aata hi nahi'.
True words... Words Ish has never wanted to hear, words that she's always been in denial about. Ish tried playing a victim and looked hurt but deep inside, she knew she had nothing to say in her defense.
Ish-Dev-Prenup Papers
Ish's comment on seeing a drunk Dev 'Wajah tab bhi wohi thi, aur aaj bhi wohi hai... Sonakshi' set the tone and the direction this whole thing was heading towards. Dev who had been troubled by the growing differences between Ish & Sona in recent times, got it well and truly that things had really worsened. Ish played the victim yet again in front of Dev, telling him that while she was willing to forget the past (magnanimous gesture indeed!), Sona had said Ishwari Niwas was not her home anymore & had blamed Ish for everything that happened
Ish made it clear to Dev that somehow she could never trust Sona to take care of him & the family. She gave him the Prenup papers and told Dev that for her, the Prenup was the family's 'Suraksha Kavach'. With this, she rubbed it in real hard that for her, more than Dev's happiness, securing her family's fortune & future were more important.
She then posed a challenge to Dev and gave him 2 options.
Option 1: He destroys the prenup papers & goes back to Sona, if he believes he will remain committed to the relationship lifelong, in which case she (Ish) would accept Sona as the bahu of the Dixits.
Option 2: He gets Sona's signature on the prenup papers and ends their relationship. But after that, he is expected to just go back to being the son & brother that he used to be. If he faltered and went into a depressed, heartbroken phase, she (Ish) would punish him by leaving him forever.
A clever move indeed, one guaranteed to make her look like she was actually giving him a choice to make a decision on his own. She wanted to be seen as someone who was "rational" and in an impassioned manner, had asked her son to decide what was best for him.
Ish, I have few questions for you. How "rational" was it to ask your son to take a life-altering decision in his drunken stupor? How "rational" was it to believe Vicky when he said he evicted the Boses out of their home at Dev's behest? How "rational" was it to yet again emotionally blackmail your son and keep reminding him of his family responsibilities? I can go on and on, don't think Ish will have any "rational" answers for me
Sona's walking out of Ishwari Niwas & Ish's one-sided version of her face-off with Sona broke Dev completely. He realized it was time to take a stand. Option 1 naturally appealed to him as it was never an option for him to choose one over the other, both the women were equally important to him and he needed them both in his life.
Dev-Sona Final Scene
When Sona, furious with rage over the prenup papers she got from Vicky, met Dev, she was in no mood for any reconciliation. She had come to say her piece and show Dev how deplorable his acts were. Dev's decision to want to live with her and asking for another chance sounded hollow and fake to her and she refused, accusing him of many wrongdoings. This jolted Dev out of his belief that no matter what, his love, his Sona would TRUST him and be with him. He couldn't believe that his Sona actually thought the worst about him. He KNEW IT WAS ALL OVER THEN.
He realized that THEY, AS DevAkshi HAD REACHED A POINT OF NO-RETURN. Their relationship was in the last stages of a painful end. Now all that was needed was to drive the final nail in the coffin. And he did that ... He GAVE UP ... his love, his feelings. He said things which he knew were false but would make him seem like a cad in Sona's eyes, make her hate him so much that she would be able to walk away from him, without ever turning back. He was dying but he had to make sure that she didn't, she had to LIVE and for that he had to be the villain. He WILLINGLY said unimaginable things, brought himself down to the lowest possible level and FINALLY ... ENDED IT ALL. Dev SACRIFICED YET AGAIN ... FOR LOVE.
Conclusion
Sacrifice... Selfless Vs Selfish
I'd like to make a point about Sacrifice here. This is what Sacrifice means to me.
Sacrifice means Giving Up something valuable for the sake of others. If we give up something precious Willingly with no other intention besides betterment of someone else, that is Sacrifice. If we give up something with the intention of our own betterment, that is Not Sacrifice, not in the true sense of the term.
Ish made "sacrifices" in her early life but mainly with the intention of having a better life for herself and her family. Nothing wrong in that, it is a normal part of enduring hardships & fulfilling your responsibilities for a better future. She keeps calling it a Sacrifice and constantly reminds Dev about it. If it is indeed a sacrifice, then it is a Selfish Sacrifice.
On the other hand, Dev gave up his most valued thing, his love (Sona) willingly so she could live and move on with her head held high. That is Sacrifice and a Selfless Sacrifice, in my opinion. His putting his family's desires before his own is also another example of his Selfless Sacrifice.
Ish made Selfish Sacrifices while Dev made Selfless Sacrifices. And that's where the 2 protagonists differ so much in their attitude towards Love.
Ish never really trusted Dev, she was in constant fear that he may leave her and her family for Sona.
Sona never really trusted Dev, she was in constant fear that he may leave her for Ish and his family. She loved the idea of a fairytale romance, she fell for Dev, he swept her off her feet and she loved that. She chose to not clear her misgivings about him, she needed Asha on many occasions to remind her about her love for Dev & Dev's love for her.
Ish believed Vicky. Sona believed Vicky. Both Disbelieved Dev.
The 2 Women that Dev BELIEVED in, never really BELIEVED HIM & at the slightest provocation chose to BELIEVE SOMEONE ELSE... Someone who they knew was never worthy of anyone's trust.
That is Life's Irony. When we hit a rough patch, instead of keeping our faith & trust intact in what or who we believe in, we falter & choose to look the other way. Worse, we are even willing to condemn the very person who means the world to us.
Final Words
Ish loved Dev but her love was tainted with fear and insecurities of losing him.
Sona loved Dev but lacked the trust & commitment needed to keep the relationship alive.
Dev loved Ish & Sona equally but lacked the strength & courage to take a stand when needed and balance his relationships.
Fear, Lack of Trust & Commitment, Lack of Strength & Courage ...These ruined their relationships and shattered the 3 lives. They have to now pick up the pieces, get a hold over themselves and try to regain all things they have lost in the process.
And the story continues ... With a New Chapter, New Colors and LOVE (that is much stronger this time, hopefully)
