Just wanted to pen down my thoughts. This is neither a negative nor a positive post...
I like this serial as they are showing scenarios which are very relatable to life. I have seen most of these things happening with people around me. I am not trying to say what Dev or Ishwari is doing correct or defend them. I am equally upset with what they both do. But I can understand them. They are being true to their character. What Dev and Ishwari are doing is what they have known for nearly 20 yrs. You cannot break a habit of so long in such a short period of time. Especially when one of them is not ready for change.
During break up, Dev could not move on. He was not ready for change. He was stuck in that place where he and Sonakshi were not separate in a sense. If he had not meddled in Sonakshi's life, she would have moved on and would have been happy. The only reason she could not move on is because Dev kept dragging her back to their relationship. This is exactly what Ishwari is doing. Dev is ready to change and grow out of that dependency, but Ishwari is not ready. She is not ready to give up that dependency. Hence Ishwari keeps pulling him back to that co dependent relationship.
In my own family, my dad died when I was 9 and my brother took on the role of head of family. He was 15 at that time. My mom is not like Ishwari (thank god), but I can relate to the struggles on a certain level. How the society treats the family when the dad is no more. We were not that poor, but we were not rich either. We had our share of fights and we did fine. All of us kids have settled down happily and leading a good life now. The people who used to make fun of us, kind of say that we are nothing, respect us today and praise us.
I have also seen my aunt competing with her DIL during the initial days of her son's marriage. Not only her husband is alive and well, she has 5 sons. Yet when her first son got married, she found it hard to share his love and also the importance she had previously got from him. She did not go to Ishwari's level is what I am happy about.
Now coming to the serial, the reason it feels stuck is because the same scenario is repeating. It is like dj vu. None of the 4 leads (Ishwar, Dev, Sonakshi and mamaji) learn anything from the break up.
Just before Dev confessed to Ishwari regarding his relationship with Sonakshi, Iswari started the chula drama with lot of crying and silent treatment to Dev. After confessing Dev thought that his mom was happy and had accepted the relationship. Ishwari too behaved like she was ok with it in front of Dev, but showed how unhappy she was in front of Sonakshi. Right now Dev once again saw his mom giving silent treatment to him and did what he did before. Gave the promise that he will not call Asha as "maa". He now thinks that since his mom is happy, Sonakshi will be happy too. We will see similar scenes where Ishwari will tell Dev to respect Sonakshi's likes and everything, but will show her displeasure to Sonakshi where Sona will start questioning Ishwari similar to before.
Sonakshi will talk to Dev regarding Ishwari not liking her, but will once again will not be heard. Ishwari will be happy similar to the time she was before the break up. Sona was not looking happy in that spoiler regarding Dev's birthday celebration talks. She looked stressed and trying to not show her unhappiness.
Mamaji tried to tell Dev regarding Ishwar's displeasure. But Dev took a different meaning of his words and ended up dumping Sonakshi. Even now mamaji is trying to let Dev know of Ishwari's insecurity. But Dev being Dev, again misunderstood and did something that he should never have done.
Ishwari's character is just beginning to unfold. She will stoop so low taking Dev with her. It will once again come to the point where Ishwari took sleeping pills. Ishwari might not take sleeping pills, but will equally do something similar or maybe the prenup will come out which will lead to confrontation between Sonakshi and Dev. This time I think Sonakshi will walk out even if he shows the medical report. I somehow don't think that Sonakshi will think it was a great thing from Dev's side that he married her knowing her condition. Sonakshi does not consider that as a sacrifice. I mean for her love is unconditional. Especially in family. Marrying somebody for wanting kids is conditional. She will not divorce him, but will definitely go away from him.
Ishwari will again be happy for some time similar to how she was initially after Dev's breakup. Dev might also behave the way he behaved during the initial days of break up saying he is happy if his mom is happy.
I feel this is how the CVs are planning to take the story. But it will once again go back to the scenes of breakup with a twist. And that twist will be Dev growing up first and getting out of the dependency finally making decisions which are right because they are and not make decisions which Ishwari thinks are right.
I like Pride and Prejudice and love the characters Darcy and Elizabeth. When Darcy initially proposes to Elizabeth, he assumes that she is expecting that and has no doubt she will accept it. But when he gets rejected by her is when he realizes how even though he is rich and considered as a gentleman, he still got rejected. When Elizabeth finally accepts his proposal, he says "I have been a selfish being all my life, in practice, though not in principle. As a child I was taught what was right, but I was not taught to correct my temper. I was given good principles, but left to follow them in pride and conceit. Unfortunately an only son (for many years an only child), I was spoilt by my parents, who, though good themselves (my father, particularly, all that was benevolent and amiable), allowed, encouraged, almost taught me to be selfish and overbearing; to care for none beyond my own family circle; to think meanly of all the rest of the world; to wish at least to think meanly of their sense and worth compared with my own.", which is what Dev is right now.
Dev like Darcy will grow up only when he gets rejected by Sonakshi.

First off, there is only one point with which I disagree slightly. During the break-up, had Dev not pursued Sona, I think she would have moved on, but I am not convinced that she would have been happy. She was entering into a relationship with Ritwick for all of the wrong reasons, and that would have come back to haunt her sooner or later. Other than their obvious love and connection, I think Sona fell for Dev because she likes the challenges he presents to the assumptions she has about life. She assumed she understood everything about him -- that he was a spoilt rich brat, who felt entitled to whatever he wanted -- during their first encounters (very Lizzy Bennet), but in proving her wrong by just being himself and having the life he did, he captured Sona's heart in a way that someone like Ritwick never could (very Darcy!). I think she would have eventually gotten very bored in with Ritwick. Of course, there is no saying for sure; this is just my hunch. So Dev, although pursuing terrible means, was actually trying to pull Sona back from something that would have hurt her in the long run. But when she finally explained to him why she was trying to make that move (despite knowing that she still loved him), he did try to accept and respect it (what happened at the engagement went out of both of their control). That's where Dev and Ishwari differ. Dev eventually tried to let go when he understood Sona's point of view but Ishwari is refusing to do so. As a result, she is gradually pushing Dev further and further away, Two cliches come to mind here: "If you love something let it go etc." and, the tighter you hold onto sand, the faster if slips through your grip.Ishwari uses guilt as a means to keep Dev bound to their horrible past, and she punishes him with a good dose everytime he forgets that they are not "normal" and attempts to seek out normalcy in his adult life. It was true of the chulha drama, of the sleeping pills, of the blackmail for Vicky's post, and now with being jealous of his relationship with Asha. Heck, it was even true in childhood when Dev made the "mistake" of playing outside, only to have Ishwari deliberately get herself slapped by her employer. Ishwari has created a system where the only way for Dev to prove his love and dedication is by sacrificing his own peace of mind, and making himself unhappy, so that she can get what she wants. And there is no middle ground -- either he gives up the thing that makes him happy or he doesn't love and respect her at all. This equation is precisely what makes the story, and Sona's entry into their lives so darn interesting. For the first time, Dev actually wants/needs something for his own happiness, and there is a conflict of interest. Giving up what he wants at a moment's notice to restore Ishwari's equilibrium is Dev's autopilot, something he does without second thought, and like you said, it's hard to break a habit that's been so deeply ingrained for twenty years. But he faced the consequences for the first time during the break-up, and he nearly self-destructed. That was when he first asked Ishwari the question, "is this ultimatum -- you or my happiness -- really necessary?" The fact that Dev was beginning to see through her made Ishwari scramble to give him what he wanted -- she had to retain that power at all costs.During wedding prep and after marriage, I feel like Dev wasn't given enough credit for how vigilant he was. Every chance he got, he was there to defend Sona and make sure that she wasn't being forced to do something that she didn't want to do. He was always suspicious of Ishwari, going as far as to accuse her when Sona decided to take up the vrat. Even when she tried to stall their honeymoon by saying Dev had never stayed away from her, he had clever answers to slip out of her grip. But you have to give credit where credit is due: Ishwari is a mastermind manipulator. With this whole Neha issue, she managed to make herself seem all innocent and helpless once again, diverted Dev's attention, and lulled him into a false sense of security. After all, Dev wants to believe that his mother is perfect, and she gave him what he needed to crawl back into his cave of delusions. And the biggest problem is that Dev doesn't know how to multitask. All his life, Ishwari made sure he only had to focus on one thing -- money. He has no idea how to focus on two things at the same time. When Sona was angry, he completely forgot about Ishwari and when Ishwari was giving him the silent treatment, Sona and her family became expendable. It's a compeltely unsustainable model, because Dev refuses to acknolwedge that his happiness is tied up with that of others. Make Sona and her wonderful family unhappy and see how you sleep at night! This is where the big lesson lies for Dev, and I am very excited to watch him grow up. Sona is also playing her part in this. She knows she can't contend with the psychological ties that bind Ishwari and Dev yet, so she is starting with the physical: let Dev take care of his own stuff. Ishwari is so confident that Sona's experiement would fail, but I am betting Dev finds a unique pleasure in the independence he will gain through this exercise.Apparently, I had more thoughts than I had bargained for! Sorry for the ramblings of this post 😛
