TV's 'Anjali' makes her co-stars fall in love
Rachna Kanwar

http://www.xtraedition.indiatimes.com/articleshow/1587013.cm s

Eijaz, Iqbal, the sexiest on TV: Anita

Anita Hasnandani aka Anjali of 'Kkavyanjali' was recently in the news when her co-star Eijaz confessed his love for her in a Mumbai daily. Known in the industry as Ekta Kapoor's friend and confidante, Anita comes across as a giggly teenager as opposed to her on-screen image of a mature girl. She also happens to be a big star down south and has graced the Bollywood screen opposite Tusshar Kapoor in 'Krishna Cottage'. We visited her on the sets of her serial and she shared her likes and dislikes with us in a candid chat.

Serials or films
Serials, anyday. Keeps you busy and gives you a certain amount of security. It also offers great TRP ratings and great money. I am working every day. After 'Krishna Cottage', I didn't work for one and a half years. That was the most depressing phase of my life. I didn't get any good films and I didn't want to do any crappy ones. Since the day 'Kkavyanjali' happened till now, I haven't been more confident, happier and more secure in life.

Generation leap; yes or no
No, I will never do it as I don't relate to it. One year is fine but 20 years and graying will be too much to handle.

Balaji camp Vs other banners
I am a very content person. I am happy where I am. I have achieved a lot and God has been kind to me. For South Indian movies, I divide my time between serials and films. I just finished a Kannada film which is releasing in August.

Missing Eijaz?
I am still shooting flashes with him. (laughs).

Being linked to Eijaz
He is a very sweet guy and we are great friends, but that is just about it. There is nothing more and trust me if it ever happens I won't hesitate to admit it. There is nothing wrong with being in a relationship.

His confession
I think the whole issue was blown out of proportion. He didn't say all of that. He must have said he is fond of me. As a friend even I am fond of him. We share a certain kind of personal rapport to believe what is written in the press. They do misquote and we know that. We are comfortable working together and there is no awkwardness. We are friends.

Love watching on TV?
OC

Film that moved you
Black

Best actor on TV?
Hiten Tejwani. I know him personally too and I think he is very positive. He gives me a very good vibe.

Best actress on TV?
Shwetta Tiwari

Favourite co-star
Eijaz

Kkavyanjali
Woh mile the bichhadne ke liye

Ekta
My best friend

Soap
An everyday affair

Sexy or demure
Sexy

Watch soaps?
Yes. To track what's happening where. 'K Street', 'Kahin To Hoga', 'Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai'.

Sexiest guy on TV
Eijaz and Iqbal both. I am working with both of them (laughs)

Eijaz in Mauritius

Eijaz Khan

In a time, where actors complain and whine about their long working hours and strenuous shoots, we have someone like Eijaz Khan, who's having a whale of a time on his Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka shoot.

The reason for his heightened state of excitement is he's in Mauritus. From an SMS we received from Khan, it seems that he's having more than just a good time.

"It's really amazing, I am having a great time. I just shot in a sports car on the beach, then in a speedboat, and things of that nature. It was almost like being James Bond."

Good for Eijaz, though we aren't too sure if Nimmo would happily join him as his glamorous sidekick.

Friday, May 26, 2006 11:27:18 pm TIMES NEWS NETWORK

We caught up with TV actress Sangeeta Ghosh who invests in the future with hard work!

Despite being a popular face on the small screen, of late, actress Sangeeta Ghosh has been conspicuous by her absence in television serials.

Lucknow Times caught up with the actress on her recent visit to the city to find out if it was a deliberate decision on her part to do less work.

"Yes," she answers, "With one project at a time, you can concentrate more on your work and do your home work for the role as well.

And then lead roles don't leave you with much time to do many serials at a time. Moreover, I like to maintain exclusivity."

With her roles in Aroona Irani's serials, Sangeeta does seem to be Irani's lucky mascot. She accepts the two gel very well as team.

"We both understand each other completely. She (Irani) knows her responsibilities as a producer while I realise what she expects out of me as an artist.

This way, we both complement each other," quips the actress, adding that she tends to take more interest in Irani's projects due to the bonding they share. "We even share the same date of birth!" she chuckles.

While her affinity to Aroona Irani is pretty evident, not many know that she has been a successful child artist as well and has worked with people like Hrishikesh Mukherjee in Hum Hindustani, Basu Chatterji (in NFDC's Durga and Sarita Ki Shartein) and Lekh Tandon.

"I consider myself fortunate to have got a chance to work with the stalwarts of the film industry, and it has been an enriching experience," says Sangeeta.

The actress maintains that saas-bahu sagas are still popular and enjoy a good viewership even now as "families sit and watch them together". So why didn't she act in one? Sangeeta has her own reasons for that and without revealing much, she says, "But hats off to them for being able to have sustained for so long."

While most TV actors maintain that though film offers have come their way, nothing has been interesting enough, Sangeeta is candidly confesses that it's not easy to get into films.

"So what if I have all the pre-requisites to be a Bollywood heroine, like a pretty face, great figure etc? There is already a Preity Zinta, Kajol and Rani (Mukherji) in the industry. The most important thing is that you need to know the people in Bollywood."

However, Sangeeta does assert that the gap between the small and big screen is narrowing, "thanks to people like Manoj Bajpai, Ashutosh Rana and even Anita Hansanandani (of Kkavyanjali)".

She adds, "Anita is lucky to have Ektaa (Kapoor) with her. But Shah Rukh Khan has been the luckiest TV star in Bollywood," says this ardent Abhishek Bachchan fan.

So, what are her plans for the future? "How much of the future can you really plan?" she shoots back with a smile adding, "You can only invest in the future by working hard today.

So I am concentrating on my upcoming show for now." How's that for being focused!

Monsoon blues!

Rains have had their premature way in this year, and no one can stop recalling the dreadful memories of 26 July 2005 in Mumbai. With roads dug up in every nook and corner and complaints flowing in about the drainage system, how prepared the city is this time? Telly stars give in their bit on this issue!

They talk to Riya V Anandwala on the speculation of the monsoons this time!

Kiran Kamarkar

Kiran Karmarkar

Confusion! I seriously don't know what the scene is going to be like? I haven't taken any precautions till now; actually the area which I live in is pretty safe in this case. The highway is still dug up, and nothing has been done till now. Guess the city is not really prepared this time for monsoons. Its takes nothing less than a hour and a half to reach my place (Kandivilli) from Sankraman studio. I doubt things are going to be fine this time!

Mihir Mishra

Mihir Mishra

Mumbai is less safe this time as compared to last year. Roads are dug up everywhere, I hope and pray that the 26 July incident doesn't repeat this time. Well, but frankly speaking I seriously think that there are chances of it reoccurring, as the roads are not in a proper state. Now its high time that people take precautions, as I have done! I have taken care of my car parking, so that my cars don't suffer. As you never know!

Rajeshwari Sachdev

Rajeshwari Sachdev

Well, I don't know! The moment I stepped out today, I encountered traffic. And what precautions can one take, cars were affected the most, but luckily nothing happened to our cars. No one can take any precautions, you see. But yes, it can't get worse, it can only get better! As far as the preparations of the city are oncerned, media have a different story to say. I have no clue what's going to happen this time!

Iqbal Khan

Iqbal Khan

Last time my experience with the rains was not really pleasant, so I really don't know whats going to happen! Roads are dug up everywhere around the city, last time I walked for nothing less than eight hours on 26 July 2005. It affects my work too, one can't afford to be punctual, if I have to report for shooting at 9 am, I have to push off from my house at 7 am. I have left everything to God!

Vikas Bhalla

Vikas Bhalla

Well, the monsoons have just started, but I don't see the city prepared! The drainage systems are not up to the mark, and the roads, don't get me started on that! There are promises every year, but nothing seems to be getting materialized. In terms of precautions, I plan not use my cars for nearly two months, as I have seen my friends suffering last time. I will travel around with cabs!

TV stars on their favourite rain songs
Rachna Kanwar

Its time to clear your throat and hum a rain song! (If nothing else it will make the traffic jams and the waterlogged streets a little more bearable).

As monsoons arrive ten days early in Mumbai, we caught up with the TV stars to see the brighter side of the pitter patter raindrops. We asked them their favourite rain songs and after a lot of deliberation and hesitation, they told us of what they hum when it pours outside. So take a cup of chai and bhajiyas and soak in the juiciest rain songs that the tele-stars absolutely adore.

Mini Mathur
/photo.cms?msid=1601940 Rimjhim gire saawan- ' Manzil'
It has a nice tippy-tappy feeling. It's melodious and it just makes you want to sit next to the window with a cup of tea, to sit with somebody you love. It is very romantic, very nice.

Mukul Dev
/photo.cms?msid=1602006 Raindrops keep falling on my head - B J Thomas and Its raining – from the Motion picture-'Grease'
Raindrops keep falling on my head reminds me of my childhood and apart from that it has certain benevolence to it. It symbolizes freedom. I like it.

Sangeeta Ghosh
/photo.cms?msid=1602051 Bheegi Bheegi raaton mein – 'Ajnabee' (Sangeeta chose it after much deliberation)
I love that song. There is no particular reason for liking it; I just like the sound of it.

Iqbal Khan
/photo.cms?msid=1602089 Aaj rapat jayen- ' Namak Halal'
The chemistry between Amitabh Bachchan and Smita Patil is awesome in the song. They are rolling in the rain water and doing all sorts of things but it doesn't look cheap or dirty. At the same time it has a very cute and hot touch to it. It's a great song.

Poonam Narula
/photo.cms?msid=1602090 Rimjhim gire saawan- 'Manzil' and Megha re megha –'Lamhe'
I love that song. I love Sridevi in Megha re megha . She is freaking out without anybody around. I would love to do that.

Anita Hasnandani
/photo.cms?msid=1602092 Kuch kuch hota hai- Title song
I love it as it is well picturised and is all mushy mushy. And of course Kajol and Shah Rukh look made for each other in the song.

Kanchi
/photo.cms?msid=1602094 November Rain by Guns and Roses
I love humming it as it has a lot of depth, a lot of feeling and they have sung it really well.

Abhijeet Sawant
/photo.cms?msid=1602097 Rimjhim rimjhim, rumjhum rumjhum - '1942- A Love Story'
I love the song. It is a very good composition by R D Burman. It has been used beautifully. It is a great song.

Debojit Sarcar
/photo.cms?msid=1602098 Megha re megha re- ' Pyaasa Saawan'
It is an evergreen song. It talks about rains so beautifully. I just love it and like to hum it.

Indraneil Sengupta
/photo.cms?msid=1602099 Aaj maine dil se,khwahishon se milke - 'Main, Meri Patni aur woh'
I only remember the current songs. This one is fresh in my mind. There is a lot of romance in the song. It is very subtle and not very over the top. It is very underplayed and that is why I love it.

TV actors clamour to work with this small-screen doyenne, but here Kapoor talks about the eight stars she just can't do without

Shabbir Ahluwalia
Kavyanjali, Kahiin To Hoga

Shabbir is a dear friend but when we're working, we keep personal and professional equations apart. We even move around in the same circle. I think he is the coolest villain we've had on TV.

Smriti Irani
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

We started interacting on a professional level but today, Smriti is a friend. I can never think about replacing her with any other actor as she is in a different league altogether. In fact, with our new show coming up, we have also become partners.

Hiten Tejwani
Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Hiten has been extremely loyal and dedicated to our production house. He takes his work very seriously and that's an asset. I'm sure his future is very bright.

Gurpreet singh
Kahiin To Hoga

I call him Sujal. The amount of hard work and effort he put in to live up to the old Sujal's image (Rajeev Khandelwal) is commendable. He is always willing to learn and that's what sets him apart from others.

Eijaz Khan
Kavyanjali, ...Nimmo Ka

When I was looking for a stylish character in Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, I knew that Eijaz was apt for it. Apart from being an actor who works for my company, Eijaz is also a great human being.

Ronit Roy
Kasautii..., Kyunki...

Ronit has successfully managed to get into the skin of the characters that he portrays on screen. Ronit has his own vision when it comes to performing. But if you convince him, he gives in easily.

Anita hassnandani
Kavyanjali

She is not only a friend but a good actor as well. She is someone I trust implicitly and is like family to me.

Sakshi Tanwar
Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki

Saakshi is one actor who has never had any issues. She has never thrown any tantrums and is a delight to work with. I would describe her as a polite and professional actor.

Rocking Success: Mohammed Iqbal Khan

Braving anonymity and disillusionment, professional highs and lows, Mohammed Iqbal Khan is finally on a roll
His professional life has been a roller coaster ride. He has seen it all - from the euphoric high of acting in two films to the frustrating low of seeing his role chopped at the editing table…to the adulation his Angad avatar has finally got him, in Kaisa Ye Pyar Hai.
Kashmiri hunk, Mohammed Iqbal Khan, was once a fatso. "My waist was 38 inches," he laughs. He needed the regimented discipline of a boarding school - Lawrence School, Sanawar - to shed the flab and turn into the lean, mean guy, girls are drooling over today. He dropped out during his third year of English Honours when his modelling (Airtel, Tropicana, Toyota) assignments became too hectic. Volunteering to hunt for locations in Kashmir for Agni Pankh, gave him his first foothold in the world of Hindi cinema.
Then came the roles…and the disillusionment. For diehard Angad fans, Fun2shh and Bullet Ek Dhamaka are must-see films if only to see the hero in other avatars. "For almost a year, I had no work, no money and two flops. Women would make passes at me but I didn't have the time to stop and react. They thought I was gay but when you're broke, girls are the last thing on your mind." Yet it was during these days that he connected with his girlfriend Sneha, whom he'd first met during the shooting of Falguni Pathak's music video, in Hyderabad. No sparks had flown then and Iqbal headed back to college in Delhi, while Sneha returned to Mumbai, without even exchanging numbers. Three years later, they spotted each other at a restaurant in Mumbai. This time, they exchanged numbers, met up on New Year's Eve and have been inseparable since then.

Moni Roy is the new Tulsi

Ekta Kapoor's latest find, the actress plays Krishna Tulsi in the Kyunki Saas… re-launch on June 7; Smriti Irani will be the new Ba

She had almost given up till she stumbled upon Moni Roy. Now, finally Ekta Kapoor, head-honcho of Balaji Telefilms, has found her new Tulsi. "Moni Roy, a Bengali student from Delhi who knows zilch about television is the new Tulsi. Moni, who had come to audition with her friends just for fun, found herself with the coveted role. Now she's Krishna Tulsi. I hope viewers accept her. She's raw right now. But it works to her advantage as she doesn't come across as a know-it-all. More than acting it's your attitude that attracts viewers. Moni has the right attitude. The rest is up to the script and destiny," says Ekta.

A new male actor is also being launched opposite Moni. "We've cast Pulkit. He was in Manish Goswami's serial Sixerr. Pulkit's contract with them had expired. Now he's in Kyunki Saas…. He was the last person to be cast. We didn't like the earlier boys we auditioned. We'll have to shoot all the portions pertaining to Hardwar with Pulkit in Mumbai," says Ekta.

Ekta has written the first eight episodes of Kyunki... featuring the generation-leap. "We're all set to launch the new-avatar of the soap on my birthday, June 7. Indeed, 7 is my lucky number. I had earlier planned it for April 7, and then May 7. But now we've found our new Tulsi, and the show can go on air on June 7! Funnily, the earlier day is the Omen's day (06.06.06). So we strike a day after the devil!" says Ekta. Also, she had released the film Kya Kool Hain Hum on June 7 and started Kyunki…. on her dad's birthday.

Ekta admits it was difficult to zero on to the right girl for the new Tulsi. "We held many auditions all over India. We distributed pamphlets, did radio interviews and even short-listed eleven girls. None seemed to match up. But, I knew that I'd know the new Tulsi when I'd see her. There was this one girl whom we wanted to cast in Kasauti Zindagi Ki. We flew her to Mumbai and completely styled her. And then I knew Kasauti ... couldn't have her. That's how Moni became Kyunki's new girl," says Ekta.

All the same, Smriti Irani will continue to be the pivot of the serial. "It's her story and she continue to be the catalyst of Kyunki…. That doesn't change. She moves to a new level in the plot," says Ekta.

Regarding the new responsibilities the characters assume, Ekta says, "Krishna Tulsi will be a mirror image of Tulsi while Smriti Irani will now become Ba. When the serial started Tulsi's anchor was Ba. And today, Smriti is all set to take over the role of Ba."

Every other member of the cast remains. Earlier plans to bump off Ba (played by Sudha Shivpuri) have been put on hold due to her popularity. "Ba will now be very old on the show, in fact, celebrate her 108th birthday. People love Sudhaji so much. Recently, when she was shooting in Hardwar people touched her feet, men included. Ba dies after 35 more episodes."

Ekta is looking forward to the leap. "We've been planning it for so long. The first generation of Viranis lasted only 360 episodes and the second generation for 600 episodes. We hope the third generation will last for a 1000 episodes," says Ekta.

Moroever, Ekta's Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka has become the first soap to be successful on Star One. "We were shooting for it in Mauritius last week. I was in the water all the time. It was great fun. While the whole unit would shoot and then party, I'd be underwater, snorkelling. I saw an eel and nearly fainted underwater. I thought it was a snake. I took along two friends from Delhi, and my friends Natasha and Shabbir Boxwallah."

Ekta has also entered into a filmmaking partnership with Sanjay Gupta. "To collaborate with someone who's a master at production will be good fun." What about her birthday plans on June 7? "It's just work, work and more work. I rejoice in work. I get withdrawal symptoms if I don't work. I'm planning three-four more shows. I'll have my birthday party a month ahead on July 7 when I've some breathing space. I'd rather finish my workload and then enjoy my party," says Ekta.

• I hope viewers accept moni. She's raw right now. More than acting it's your attitude that attracts viewers. Moni has the right attitude

Hiten back in Kavyanjali!

It's no big deal for Balaji to vanish their actors from a particular show and get them back on the same after a while. And Hiten Tejwani joins the bandwagon by entering back in Kavyanjali. The actor who essayed the role of Yug sometime ago, will soon be seen in the serial again!

Never say die!

"That's Balaji for you, we actors can always enter back and give the excuse of being out somewhere on the show!" chirps Hiten.

Hiten's character of Yug was shown having a love angle with Anjali played by Anita Hasnandani. So, now which way will the character go? " I will help Shaurya, essayed by Iqbal Khan and Anjali who get closer, as they genuinely love each other," explains Hiten. Then what will happen to his unforgettable love for Anjali? " Well, I will have to give it up! and end up being Karan there too," Hiten laughs it off.

Hiten Tejwani is currently being seen on three Balaji shows, Karan Virani in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Nishant in Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai and of course Yug in Kavyanjali.

Hiten is extremely happy with the way his career is shaping up, and has no qualms of working only with Balaji. "Till the time, I am with this production house, I am secure. Today, if I am out of one Balaji show, Ekta will certainly offer me something else, says Hiten.

Three cheers to your honesty, we say!!!
