Not just married couples
By: Tusshar Joshi
April 15, 2006
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Shweta Tiwari with Ronit Roy
Last year's hottest show Nach Baliye will return in it's second season — Nach Baliye 2 – later this year.

According to an insider, Star One was having trouble finding ten new celeb pairs and was forced to consider another interesting option – having on-screen jodis compete for the coveted trophy and cash prize.

An actor on the basis of anonymity told HiTLIST, "I have heard that they are inviting on-screen jodis this year." He also trashed reports of Siddharth Basu producing the show.

Shweta and Manav

There is already a list of probable candidates drawn in the industry amongst which are names like Gauri Pradhan – Hiten Tejwani, Shweta Kawaatra – Manav Gohil, Bakhtyaar Iraani - Tanaaz Lal, Arjunn Punj – Gurdeep Kohli and Hiten Paintal and Kishwar Merchant and others.

Shweta Kawatraa is thrilled to know she's on the list, "I would love to do Nach Baliye 2.

Last year we couldn't due to date issues. Hopefully it will work this year." However the channel heads are tight-lipped. "It's too early to comment on Nach Baliye as nothing is decided as yet", said creative head for Star Shailja Kejriwal.

Rohit: It will be fun

Our source in Star One explains the new strategy, "We were having a tough time finding ten new, popular and young married couples. That's when the idea of screen couples came up. It's all being fine tuned now. Inviting on-screen couples is just one of the options that we are looking at."

Last year's contestant Rohit Roy comments on the change, "It will be interesting to see reel life couples as opposed to real life jodis.

The audiences who love Bajaj and Prerna will have fun." Most popular pairs on tele are not on talking terms with their co-stars. That could also be a hindrance.

Archana: No Magic

Archana Puran Singh has a different point of view. "I am not too sure if the reel life couples will be able to recreate magic. Even for me and Parmeet it wasn't easy to portray the reality between us on screen. I personally am excited and looking forward to the new season."

Manish Goyal, last year's winner feels, "I think it would be very difficult for a couple paired on-screen to devote time to Nach Baliye and their daily show. Not only will it strenuous to co-ordinate both the shoots, but not all onscreen couples get along well. For instance we know that Prerna and Bajaj will not be ready to be paried opposite each other. So if that's an option then it definitely will require double the efforts."

Manish's game plan

Manish's recommendations forthe second innings he says, "I conveyed some options to the channel. It would be interesting to have someone from the public join us. Last time, I had people asking me if the tears and the drama they saw on screen were real. It was hard convincing them that those were real emotions. If some one from the viewers join us, then the credibility factor will increase."

Goyal's second unique proposal is to pair one male choreographer with a female celebrity and vice versa. I think it might work."

10 Real life jodis

> Kiran and Rinku Karmarkar
> Manoj Bohra and Teejay Siddhu
> Shweta Kawaatra and Manav Gohil
> Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan
> Sharad Kelkar and Kirti Kelkar
> Arjunn Punj and Gurdeep Kohli
> Rajesh Kumar and Madhavi
> Karan Singh and Barkha Bisht
> Sharad and Kirti Kelkar

Popular TV jodis

> Mihir-Tulsi
> Sujal – Kashish
> Bajaj – Prerna
> Kavya – Anjali
> Sumeet – Kumkum
> Om- Parvati
> Armaan – Jassi
> Yudi – Mukti

B'day buddies;Anita

The two not only share a working relationship, but are also the best of friends. So when Ekta Kapoor decided to host Anita's birthday bash for her, it didn't come as a surprise.

Ekta recently sent messages to her close friends inviting them for Anita's 25th birthday celebration at her new house on April 15. Guests are instructed to wear something with a dash of gold.

However, we thought it would be silver since it looks more like a silver jubilee moment, than a gold. Nevertheless, it will be a rocking affair for sure.

After Hours conducted a poll to find out who the hottest properties on television are. When it comes to the hunks, another set of Khans are ruling Tellywood — with three of them making it to the top four — Iqbal Khan, Cezzane Khan and Eijaz Khan.

The only exception is Rajeev Khandelwal, who is placed at number two. Among the females, Sangita Ghosh scored an upset victory over Mandira Bedi and Rakshanda Khan to be voted the hottest babe on TV. Aamna Shariff was a distant nine!

Iqbal Khan tops our poll as the hottest hunk on TV.

Sex appeal: His eyes.

Fan speak: "He looks like a Bollywood star. He's just awesome," says 18-year-old Ramya Iyer.

Eligible bachelor: Unfortunately, no! He admits that he is quite serious about his girlfriend Sneha Chaabra and will be tying the knot soon.

Co-star speak: "The on-screen chemistry between us is great because both of us have put in a lot of hard work," says Neha Bamb.

Sangita Ghosh beat Rakshanda Khan, Mandira Bedi and Aamna Sharif to emerge as TV's hottest babe.

Claim to fame: She plays the lead in 'Rabba Ishq Na Hove'. She became popular with her character as Pammi in 'Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand'. She has also hosted 'Nach Baliye' with Shabbir Ahluwalia.

Marriages of the main leads are infinite times.

Almost all the girls in the main lead have so many children yet they look so slim.

There is n't a single husband in her serial who has not had only 1 lover in his life.

In seconds, Dead = ALIVE and Alive = DEAD.

There isn't a single episode in which the main girl in the story does not cry.

Women in Ekta Kapoor serials always dressed in designer gowns/ salwaar suits/ sarees with big and dangling earrings and the apt hair colour

Abhay in "kkusum" has been maarried at least 5 times or 6 ? oh gosh i dun think abhay needs a pandit at his nxt wedding...he cud recite the mantras himself wid his xperience

ppl r always gettin engaged ..nvr married... tht2 wid tusshar kappor's movie or ekta's recent attempt to make a hindi movie's songs playin in the lavish bollywood style sets (the songs are nice though)

They are always having parties.. and in every party .. something happens.. like a fight.. some hungama.

Every Ekta serial starts off very interestingly .. with a bang.. wow.. but ends up like the same old story .. for example, Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai was different but for those who have watched shows like Kahin To Hoga or KUTUMB can switch off there TV's now.. history gonna repeat ... kripa will marry angad to teach him a lesson.. tht's wht kasshish and gauri did

Every female villain in Ekta's serial is dressed up so lavishly and has a son who is almost her age.

There is always a lost child who is found and lost and found again and lost ..and ...

It's a relaxing timepass to see every1 in her serial living in huuugeee mansions

The dialogues are very convincing. they make a strong impact on us with echos all over and the same background music.

Her title tracks are really addictive and seems to be only sung by one singer --> Priya Bhattacharya .. her voice is good ya .. but deep.. most of the time doesnt suits the heroine's voice.

If Male or the female lead is accused something wrong and wants to tell it to others he will never get tht chance to say it out .. "Meri baat to suno.." and "Mujhe kucch nahin sunna hain .."

Return from death is a must.... Bhoot part 2 and how can we forget plastic surgery ?

I wonder how clever the doctors are in Life Care Hospital.. they gives the good news of pregnancy by just touching on the lady's stomache without any tests done...

Life care hospital will do surgery and change it to someone else face if someone goes there after an accident..

Life care hospital can never give DNA reports correctly.. they are always confused

The Best thing abt K Soaps is that , we dont need to spare time for all her shows.. we can watch just one show and get to know what happens in all her shows... coz all shows wud be the same ...

Though the soaps dont lead anywhere.. she takes very good looking handsome hunks and very pretty girls for her shows... i dont know why they take up those shows .. Oh Yes i got it... Fame is everything and Ekta can give fame to anyone and everyone if she wants

Baa is immortal. She defies normal human longevity.

Who are Tulsi's actual children Has Ekta finally made out Shobha to be some adopted child or no? becos that seems next on the cards. It appears that Balaji heroines can never keep their children safe at birth. Anyone and everyone can just take them anytime.

Tanya is still pregnant like the ever pregnant Mehak of KTH who was pregnant for 17 months?. these girls just dont want to deliver their babies. They want to defy the wonderfully brilliant Hindi film dialougue " Maine tumhe nau mahine apne kok mein pala hai " ..... for these girls the dialougues will be " Tum mere kok mein hi pale aur bade ho gaye. kabhi bahar ki duniya hi nahi dekhi, kyunki script writer tumhare baare mein bhool gaye"

In Kahin Toh Hoga, the theme of the show was, there is someone made for every one on this earth!!. This is a case of excesses. Everyone is made for everyone. Sujal is made for Kashish, Charu and Archita. Rishi is made for Mehak and Mouli and all other girls in the vicintiy. Charu is made for Akshat and Tusshar. Kashish is for Piyush and Sujal and Tusshar and Angad..... and hopefully, the list should end there.

Adultery is most common in the shows. Every father, be it OM or Mihir or Chetan Garewal, who will win the best pati in one years "Star Parivaar Awards" will turn out to be a bigamist the next year. Not a single hero is spared of this adultery.

Miscarriages happen at the drop of a coin. Deliveries of long pregnancies might not happen, but miscarriages will definitely happen, especially if it is the lead heroine in question. .

KKusum, less said the better. Will Abhay Kapoor please tell us, how many times was he actually married and when and to whom all and who, He considers to be his wife?

Will Lovers ever meet in "K"ekta world. Will Akshat ever realise his love... or with passing times, he will just change his love

In all Ekta Kapoor shows, there is only one Hospital --> The LIFECARE hospital

happens to the lead female or male characters..there is always the trademark song for every serial In KTH, it's Thoda sa pyar hua tha.. thoda hai baaki... In Kesar, Bepanha pyar hai aaja.. In KYPH, Zindagi mein koi kabhi aaye na rabba and now in Kammal, Oh raahi oh raahi, In Kasamh se, Meri Duniya hai tujhme kahin ..

Ekta Kapoor serials are largely popular due to the actors and actresses in the serials. Their popularity is wow. There are loads of good looking ppl and some very good actors too. Ekta can make anyone a star. These telly actors are even giving film stars a run for their money as far as talent and fan-following are concerned, are the MAJOR factor to K-successs

I wonder how many times the supreme court and the hospital has been visited in ekta kapoor serials.. 10 times ? 20 times? i guess even more..

37.Another thing is the way Ekta advertises her shows. She spends so much money on promoting her shows. And so, more people know about them.

Some usually watch the Monday and Friday episodes as they have the main thing the episodes in between frm Tue to Thu are just dragging what hpnd on Monday.

According to the TRP rates throught India, 95% of the People watch Ekta kapoor shows. And 72% of the indians living abroad, US etc.. watch them too.

There is always suspense in Ekta Kapoor shows esp on Friday episodes. She purposely ends her shows at a point where you just have to see the following episode on monday. It becomes addictive.

But there is suspense only in the first few episodes....and then we watch it...and then it becomes an overdose... ...and then...she makes them interesting agian....n the same court scene rona dhona .. but we still watch it

Ekta was the first one to introduce "drama with glycerine"

Anyone's face which has gone thru plastic sugery.....forget face , their entire physique changes.

ex. in kkussum, mansi was soo fat and after her plastic cut and paste she is changed to shilpa who has a well toned body and not only that her height is also different and her voice too.

Good comic relief to watch the ppl cry for anything and nowhere in the world u can see a man crying more than here

believe it or not but 65% of the guys watch Ekta kapoor soaps

Ekta got shows which consist of every part of india like marathi, sindhi, gujarati, bengali, punjabi and for ppl ranging frm middle class (remember Anjali's and Kkusum's backgrounds?) to the rich..(evry1 is rich in her shows)

One of the main reasons why Ekta shows are soo popular is becoz of the Indian audience themselves. Kyunki was celebrating I think 1000 episodes (if I am not wrong) and they were asking audience if they should end this show and reply via sms. 93% according to the stats replied "No, the show should go on".

Also, when you go shopping and come across a shop, you are bound to hear the shop keeper say this is the jewellery/dress which KOMOLIKA is wearing or PRENA is wearing or Nandini wore or Kasshish got married it... wht hpnd to priety rani and ash?

In one point or the other, all the female leads in her shows are definitely accused of something wrong they havent done. And then they promise to take revenge.. etc ..

Each character has its unique dress code and even jewellry although it seems stupid to dress up everyday to perfection.. even at night when we are asleep.

Although Ekta kapoor's serials can totally seem nonsensical but Ekta has a knack of picking the best performers and the best couples. She makes sure they know how to act and look really good. Again and again this has been proved by thousands and thousands awards where in such categories winner is always Balaji Ekta Production.

Ekta knows the perfect way to package and "sell" her serial with beautiful backgrounds/ sets/ title tracks/ costumes. This is what attracts the audience.

In kTH kashish n kanan not have to learn their dialogues again n again b'coz kanan always say "charu ki ye halat kashish dii k waja se huvi hai, kashish di ager app charu se pyaar karti to aisa na karti , kashish says: "kanan tum ghalat soch rahi hoo.... kanan interepts ghalat to mein pehle thi, kashish says lakin kanan, sonu to, kanana says nahi dee muje kuch nahi sunna and then she leaves, this happens almost daily in KTH.

And the key thing is tht now u can understand where ur wife/daughters/mother/girlfriend has come from when she is being completely illogical and unreasonable. Its an Ekta thing-

Although we all complain but still we wait for Kaisa Yeh Pyar Hai at 8 and Kahin To Hoga at 11 * Kavyanjali at 9 and even repeat telecasts

Anita's Gplden Birthday!😊

Anita's golden birthday
By: Tusshar Joshi and Sandipan Dalal
April 17, 2006

Anita
Birthday girl Anita (Anjali of Kavyanjali), who turned 25 looked ravishing in an ensemble she picked up from London.

"I didn't want to buy anything new, since I recently shopped tons of new clothes when I was in UK." Not only was her outfit the talk of the party, her new slim and trim avtaar too had other actors wonder if Anita's on a diet regimen.
Shabbir Ahluwalia

Jassi ka funda

Even though the dress code was to have a dash of gold, not everyone followed the instructions. Jassi of K Street Pali Hill was lucky to sport a golden top, which she picked up a day before the party. "I didn't even know about the code, but as soon as I heard it, I was thrilled as I had a golden top ready with me."

Breaking the ice

It was a pleasant surprise to see Kasautii Zindagii Kay's Cezanne Khan make an appearance with his girl friend Shubha Verma. The usually recluse actor was seen warming up to his co-stars and having a good time. Shubha too was seen chatting up with her friends and having a good time on the dance floor.

Neelam Mehra and Saakshi Tanwar
Baal baal dekho

Shabbir Ahluwalia, fondly called 'Shabbs' by his close friends was in a jolly good mood.

For a change he wasn't hiding his long tresses under a hair band and had left them open. He was spotted giving Anita company on the dance floor and was soon joined by his other colleagues.

Dressed to kill

Urvashi Dholakia was her flamboyant self as she came dressed in a stylish black ensemble.

Not only was she in her element with her witty one-liners and jokes, but she also looked like she was having a good time. We wonder if this has to do anything with the special some one in her life.

Jeetendra

Sunita Menon

Ashwini Kalsekar, Jasvir Kaur, Nisha Sareen and Chetan Hansraj
Chetan Hansraj can't get over admiring his newborn baby.

We got an exclusive sneak peek into Chetan's phone that had some cutesy pictures of his son Ethen.

The proud father adds, "Ethen has started making noises and identifying people. He even raises eyebrows while responding to us in his childlike way. I can't wait for him to grow up."

Bappa moraya

Ronit Roy is a devout Ganpati follower. The actor sported a chunky gold Ganpati locket at the do. When quizzed about it he says, "You may call it as my way of following the dress code. But the fact remains that the lord has been kind to me."

Surveen Chawla, Karan Patel, Gauri, Yash Tonk, Gauri Pradhan and Hiten Tejwani
Pics: Rane Ashish
While making an exit from the venue he was approached by an aged lady, who kept chanting, "Prerna ko saath nahi laye."

Knowing the real-life brawl he had engaged in with co-star Shweta Tiwari it definitely will be hard to spot them together.

Sugar daddy

Iqbal Khan is a fitness freak. He's known to carry dumb bells and bench press on his sets to work out in between the shots.

At the do the actor gave the oily dinner a miss and settled for hot gulab jamuns. He says, "I cannot stuff myself with so much food. It's great to finish the day with gulab jamuns. It ensures sweet dreams we presume.

Kavyanjali's one-year leap
By: Vickey Lalwani
April 18, 2006
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Anita and Eijaz Khan
Starting this Thursday, Ekta Kapoor's pet project, Kavyanjali, is set for a one-year leap. The show will also have a new creative team.

Says Sandiip Sikcand, the new creative on the show, "Kavya (Eijaz Khan) is dead and will not come back. No reincarnations, no plastic surgery.

We will now show Anjali (Anita) as a strong, independent woman. We are getting close to reality. Don't women go single due to the unpredictability of life?"

Moving on

Nivedita Basu of Balaji explains why the show is leaping only a year ahead.

"We wanted to avoid the display of rona-dhona. Once we started the track of Anjali weeping over Kavya's death, we wouldn't have been able to pull it out quickly. So, in Wednesday's episode, Anjali will declare that she will take care of the business and her kid and not cry.

She will wipe off her tears and move on. From Thursday, you will see that the family has moved on."

Nitya shattered

Will all the characters have erased Kavya out from their memory?

"Definitely not. Anjali will certainly remember him, but only at times, and we will use flashback scenes for that." The only character who will not be able to recover from Kavya's death is his mother Nitya, played by Amrita Singh.

"Amrita will be in a daze even after one year. She would not have recovered from the shock. She will be virtually numb. There is a big transformation happening in her character.

She will feel very guilty that she could not make up with her son before he died. She will not be able to rest, because she is shocked that Kavya could be so nice to her, despite knowing that she was responsible for the mess in his life."

What happens to Shaurya (Iqbal Khan)? Is there a romantic development between Anjali and Shaurya in the fast-forward version?

Says Sikcand, "Shaurya will very much be around. Anjali and he will become thick friends. But we haven't yet thought about the love angle." Adds Nivedita, "Shaurya will help Anjali put the business in place."

What else happens in the forward version? "Arav (Abhir Goswami) will
turn out to be Shaurya's brother. The two of them have been in the serial even now, but they have not come aamne-samne yet," reveals Nivedita.

I don't want to settle down'

Enjoying pin-up
status post 'Kavvyanjali', actor Eijaz Khan is a blissful bachelor

Nuzhat Aziz

He is definitely one of the popular Khans ruling tellydom. Even though the grapevine says that he is soap queen Ektaa Kapoor's blue-eyed boy, Eijaz Khan laughs it off, "It doesn't matter whether I am anyone's favourite or not. You really can't take away my hard work from me. I have been shooting day in and day out."
Having become popular as Kavya in 'Kavvyanjali', Eijaz says that he owes his success to Balaji. "I have been getting offers from other channels. But why should I venture out and make my life miserable? I am in a comfortable atmosphere and am doing a variety of roles here," he adds.
Even though his character in 'Kavvyanjali' has come to a sudden end, Eijaz is unperturbed. He's now being replaced by Iqbal Khan. "The show was a part of my life. I don't know why Ektaa wanted me out. But I think I've done justice to my role."
Incidentally, the actor claims that he has done all the stunts in the show himself. "I believe they should look authentic. For the last few episodes of 'Kavvyanjali' I've even jumped from a five-storey building and burnt my back whilst doing a fire sequence. Since the sets have all safety measures, I prefer doing the stunts myself," he explains.
Eijaz plays a Casanova in 'Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka' on Star too. "It's a cool character to play. The story will develop when my dad will force me to marry and I get into a contractual marriage," he says.
So is he a Casanova in real life too? "There are so many rumours doing the rounds. But honestly, I don't have time to do anything else but act. I don't want to settle down. I am happy the way I am. And regarding the rumours, they all are true!" he laughs.
And what about Bollywood? "I am happy doing TV. I have yet to prove myself and win an award for the best actor," he signs off with a smile.

While technological progress has led to the proliferation of several labour-saving devices in the market yet, when we talk about housework, it is conveniently dismissed as a women's job. Caitlin Flanagan, the New York- based author of To Hell with All That: Loving and Loathing our Inner Housewife, feels that women bring more emotional baggage to this subject.

According to a report that appeared in New York Times, "Single women do twice the amount of housework compared to single men." Endorsing the same view, TV actor, Iqbal Khan says, "When my sister visited me recently, she turned my house upside down. She would make sure that the laundry, ironing, dusting and dishes were all in place. She would create a scene if she could not find any household item. I am staying alone, and I am not really obsessive about household chores."

Most women are conditioned from childhood to do their share of housework, but guys on the other hand are not encouraged to do so. Says TV actress, Kanchi Kaul, "I had gifted a wine bottle to my male friend. One month later when I visited his house, I found the same bottle lying in his cluttered bedroom. I got very angry and ensured that he cleared his room and placed the bottle in his bar."

TV actress Shweta Gulati is also of the opinion that men are messy by nature. "When my male buddies and I go on a trip, we usually share the room and they make a mess of the place. Their shoes, towels and clothes are thrown all over the place. I have to request them to tidy up. Sometimes it is very irritating and it gets difficult to stay in the same room with them."

A study at the University of Maryland found that women go to the extent of compromising on their sleep or leisure time to do household work. Rakhi Dureja, a college professor, says "My husband and I had to go to the US to attend a family wedding. There were some clothes lying unironed. I wanted to make sure that that I left no clothes unironed and that I left the house was in perfect condition. This of course took some time. We missed the flight and both of us had a big fight."

Neil Chethik, author of the book, VoiceMale: What Husbands think about their Wives, Sex, Housework and Commitment, polled 300 husbands in the US and found that, "Housework was the top most reason for disagreements between couples. It was higher on the list than sex, higher than raising the children, and ahead of any other issue."

Experts opine that there are biological and sociological reasons for the difference between the length of time men would like to spend on housework in comparison to women. Says psychiatrist, G.V.S. Murthy, "Biologically, a male brain is inclined towards problem solving and logical thinking. They do not derive happiness from ironing clothes and doing other household chores. On the other hand, a female brain usually enjoys artistic and domestic work. It is similar to the nesting instinct in birds that females have which makes them interested in doing work related to their homes. Sociologically speaking, men have traditionally been bread earners and women the homemakers. This also makes men less interested in housework."

However, not everybody agrees with the view that single men do less housework. TV actor Akashdeep Sehgal says, "A woman who does not enjoy housework might totally depend on her house help. Likewise there are a few men who enjoy doing their household chores. If I find my house in a mess, I will spend the day sorting it out." The same feeling is shared by TV actor Diwakar Pundir, who says "I used to spend an hour in household chores earlier when I had time on my hands and even today if my staff doesn't turn up, I even do my own cooking."
