Actor Eijaz Khan may have an erratic work schedule, but the one constant of his day is his workout regimen post-midnight, says Leena Mogre

Actor Eijaz Khan is one person I know who despite his busy schedule makes time to ensure his fitness routine is not neglected. He comes to the gym at 1:30 am everyday while the rest of the world is fast asleep or partying. Very often people ask him if it is a good idea to workout out so late. His answer is, "Due to my busy lifestyle — shooting for two popular television shows namely Kkavyanjali and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, I only get that time to exercise. When I finish my shoot, instead of going home and sleeping and feeling tired the next day, I go to the gym, exercise, feel fresh and get a good night's sleep and wake up fresh."

Khan feels fitness is very important not only for actors or people who are from the glamour industry, but for everyone else too. Every one should exercise and eat a balanced meal, because it keeps you energetic and gives you a positive attitude, which is very important in order to deal with everyday stress in life.

The workout
• Four days weight training
• One day cardio (treadmill / elliptical) and power yoga

He does Power Yoga for:
• Increased flexibility
• To relieve stress
• And to remain calm.

Weight Training:
• Monday - Lower body
• Tuesday - Chest
• Wednesday - Cardio abs
• Thursday - Shoulder triceps
• Friday - Back biceps.

Khan is very particular about his diet even though he is on the sets and shooting at odd hours. When in an emergency he always carries his meal replacements (Lean Body) with him. His diet is as follows:

• Meal 1- Oatmeal, apple, orange
• Meal 2 - Two chappatis, bhaji made of green vegetables
• Meal 3 - Oatmeal bar (two), protein shake
• Meal 4 - Plain rice, dal and vegetables
• Meal 5 - Bananas, before workout .
• Post workout - Protein shake, amino acid tablets and green vegetables.

He eats oranges in between shoots because the strong light used for shooting and the constant air conditioning drains him out. Water and citrus fruits keep him hydrated.

He is very punctual about his workout timings. Being a male he loves to workout his legs, which I find very rare in men.

Besides the above, Khan practices martial arts and trains separately for that too. When he travels he does power yoga and exercises his abs, proving once again that if you have the will, you always find the time to exercise. I think people who say they have no time to exercise, should remember that only a busy person has time for everything and that is exactly why an individual gets busy in the first place.

Ekta Kapoor
Sanjay Gupta and Ekta Kapoor have tied up to produce films together. Their films will be announced as White Feather Films, in association with Balaji.

"I have always liked the kind of films Sanjay makes, as those are the kind of films I want to make," says Kapoor. "I love his Zinda and Kaante. So last month, I called him and we met. We found we got along well and can work well together."

Pooling resources

What was the purpose of the tie-up? Replies Ekta, "It's time we put our strengths on the table and safeguarded each other by covering our weaknesses.

Sanjay brings to the table his conceptualisation, and caters to a certain audience and sensibility. I will be involved with marketing and putting together the projects and finances. He's the kind of man I would like to work with."

Sanju's approval

Sanjay Dutt
Says Sanjay Dutt, the chairman of White Feather Films, "For the growth of our company, it is imperative that we have mergers with like-minded companies that share the same vision and ambitions as us." What does he think of Ekta and Sanjay Gupta coming together?

"Both Ekta and Gups (as Gupta is affectionately called) are extraordinary visionaries and have a burning desire to create cinema that is contemporary and unconventional. I wholeheartedly endorse this new relationship."

Adds Gupta, "It's a strategic alliance to produce, distribute and market feature films. We signed the MoU last Friday. People might think Ekta and I are like chalk and cheese, but we will be doing films in line with what White Feather has done in the past. I was glad when we met her as we found we shared a complete understanding of the cinema we both believe in. Jeetuji (Ekta's dad) and Ramesh Sippy will guide and support us at every step.

Sanjay Gupta
White Feathers is on a major expansion trip as Sanju and I have worked out a game plan for the company. One of the decisions is to have mergers with companies who share our vision, ideology and sensibilities.

The films will be a mixed bag of anything that is non-formula — from non-fiction, to classic opera, to thrillers and feel-good emotional dramas. White Feather has already shortlisted 10 films, which should be launched soon."

How many films will Balaji and White Feathers produce together? "The first will be Shootout At Lokhandwala, directed by Apoorva Lakhia. We will make a formal announcement soon," Gupta says. The film stars Arjun Rampal, Tusshar Kapoor, Viveik Oberoi and others.

Iqbal's parents approve of his choice, Angad will marry Sneha Chaabra soon

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Actor Iqbal Khan who has been hooked and booked for over two years, has finally taken his relationship a step ahead. He has introduced his parents to the love of his life.

"I was so damn nervous," he confesses. "My parents are simple folk from Srinagar. They aren't use to the glitz and glamour of Mumbai. But I must give complete credit to Sneha for impressing them and winning their love and trust."

Iqbal's parents, who met Sneha for the first time, hadn't been aware that his son had found his ideal woman. "My parents mean the world to me and I didn't want to shock them. I wanted them to meet Sneha before I broke the news to them," says Iqbal. "I introduced them to her and eventually asked them if they liked her. Obviously the answer was 'yes.'"

Now that they've got a formal approval, the couple is soon going to tie the knot. "I'm going to get married but I need to attend to a few things before that," he says. "I want to buy a house and stabilise my bank account. I guess, by the end of this year everything will be on the right track."

Will religion be an issue in their marriage plans? "Obviously, my family was a bit apprehensive but everything is sorted out now," he replies. "Sneha has the ability to win hearts. My parents were very happy after meeting her. They agree that she is the suitable girl for me."

Professionall, Iqbal is busy with Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai, and now Kavyanjali. Does Sneha too harbour ambitions to get into the glamour world? "She is so very lazy," he sighs. "Sneha wants to look after our home and, eventually, the kids. That itself is a full-time job, I guess."

About his marriage he says: "I might get married next month. My parents will decide the date. My main concern was getting them to meet Sneha formally. The rest of the details will be finalised by them."

Iqbal is expected to visit his home town to meet his family and relatives. "My family has always lived in Srinagar and its difficult for them to get used to the hot Mumbai weather. However, they do like the people here."

Karisma Kapur and Rima Jain

Chatpati Chandrima
Tuesday, February 28, 2006 | People

Look who's smiling!
The brunch and launch of Leetu Shivdasani and Haseena Jethmalani's latest collection at Aza was quite a mixed bag. Haseena, we believe has been unwell. So much so, she failed to turn up for the event, though Leetu tried her best to make up for it. But people, did we love Karisma Kapur looking awesome in a simple pair of denim and brown t-shirt! She was accompanied by her aunt Rima Jain. And tell you what, we thought Karisma looked every bit like the woman who has finally stepped out in the sunshine and enjoying every bit of it. Good to see.

This is why karaoke nights should come with a statutory warning: Enter at your own risk. Because with a few pegs down, everyone thinks he's Elvis. Take for instance what regulars at Not Jazz By The Bay were made to endure. Ekta and her Balaji gang turned up at the nightclub around midnight. Queen Kapoor was flanked by Anita Hassnandani, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Eijaz Khan, Amit Tandon, Nikhil Arya and the entourage took over the podium immediately on arrival and proceeded to take full advantage of the karaoke night. To begin with, Chetan Hansraj refused to give the mike to anyone else despite people giving him dirty looks and yelling profanities. Though he did a good job of singing 'Wonderwall', his wannabe coolio act definitely wasn't happening. The crowd could have killed Nikhil Arya when he croaked 'Everything I do'…Eijaz Khan was the boy in the woods, he looked so lost and was by himself for most of the evening. Maybe actors should stick to acting after all.

Achala Sachdev hurt in car mishap
By: Shaheen Parkar
May 3, 2006

Achala Sachdev
Veteran actress Achala Sachdev was involved in a car mishap on the Mumbai-Pune expressway on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred when she was en route to Mumbai for the shoot of the Star Plus daily Kavyanjali, in which she plays Bebe.

The octogenarian actress was travelling alone with her driver, and though the injuries she sustained are minor, she is in a state of shock and has been advised rest.

Lives alone

Incidentally, Sachdev is based in Pune and visits Mumbai only for shooting purposes. It is learnt that she lives alone and has a son, who is based in London.

When we called her on the mobile, it was her driver, Ibrahim, who took the call. "She has given her mobile to me and I am back in Mumbai. She has been admitted to a hospital in Pune," he claimed.

Traumatised

Ibrahim confirmed that the mishap had occurred due to a burst tyre. "She was not hurt, but it was extremely traumatic for her. She is in a state of shock. I had to call for an ambulance and she was taken to her family doctor, and later to hospital. The Balaji team was immediately informed about the incident."

The driver claims he received injuries on his chest and face, for which he is seeking treatment at a Jogeshwari hospital. Efforts to reach to Sachdev in Pune proved futile.

Sachdev, who has played the mother figure in several Bollywood films, switched over to the small screen with Kavyanjali. As Bebe in this daily, she plays Kavya's great grandmother.

Achala Sachdev facts

Has been doing roles of the ever-sacrificing and sugar-sweet mother in films ever since she was in her 20s.

Is best remembered as the blushing wife of Balraj Sahni in the evergreen song Ae meri zohra jabi in Waqt.

Began with All India Radio in Lahore and after Partition began work at Delhi radio station.

Her maiden film was Kashmir, in which one of her three sons included Govinda's father, Arun.

Featured in Aditya Chopra's blockbuster Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, which she did after a hiatus.

Veteran actor Achla Sachdev, famous for Waqt's song Aye Meri Zohra Jabeen, and who's currently doing the teleserial Kkavyanjali, met with a car accident on the Pune Express Highway while returning from Pune. She had to be hospitalised immediately and since no one from her family lives in India, the production house, Balaji, took care of her hospitalisation and medication. However, Achla's condition is stable. When we contacted Dushant, the production head of Kkavyanjali, he said, "Yes, Achla Sachdev did meet with an accident and had to be hospitalised. Rock On!

Our reporter, Reena Thapar Kapoor will take you where no fan has been before – right into the lives and living rooms of your favourite celebrities. Get set for classified information

As far as film stars go, Salman Khan has 'it'. As far as television stars go, Iqbal Khan has 'it' in close measure. This hunk has always been hugely popular with his rock-star image as Angad on Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai; and now, his newest guise as Shaurya in Kavyanjali has caused his fanclub to swell by numbers. With two daily shows how does Iqbal manage to give his undivided attention to his work, his girlfriend and above all, to himself? Here's how…

1. Mera Number aa gaya (10:30 am)

Iqbal has a bad habit of getting to the sets on time. "I don't like to keep people waiting for me," he shrugs, characteristically, as he leaves his newest acquisition, a Hyundai Accent, waiting in the parking lot. His car contains his world – from his clothes to his shoes, to his odds and ends – it's all in here. But if you need to know, Iqbal is not half as proud of his car as he is about its number plate: 786 – the bismillah number, and a very auspicious one for Muslims.

2. Fists of steel (1:00 pm)

Iqbal has just discovered that his shoot has been delayed by a few hours, so he intends to make the most of his time. He heads for his vanity van to work out. The weights and work-out bench travel with him everywhere he goes. "I've not entered a gym in the last eight months," he complains. But we're not complaining, as we ogle his physique. Iqbal says he tries to work on his biceps, triceps, shoulders and chest. Job well done!

3. Tiffin Talk (1:00 pm)

4. The foundation of the craft (1:30 pm)

Time to start rolling. "It takes me exactly six minutes to get ready to face the camera," says this 'simple Kashmiri boy', as he likes to call himself. "I'm not a 'retrosexual' or a 'metrosexual' city boy," he waves the nomenclature off. In fact, Iqbal's personal wardrobe is stocked simply with jeans and regular shirts. The only time he wears a snug T-shirt is when he works out.

5. At the vanguard ( 2:00 am)

Iqbal meets the usually reticent Gauri Pradhan on the sets. "She is Hiten's wife and he is a friend. I get along well with her because like me, she too is very professional about her work." They walk together towards the sets, and to long gruelling hours of shooting. Such is the life of an actor. But can you hear Iqbal complain? Not a whisper.

Did you know?

• Iqbal is the youngest in the family, he's got two older sisters and two brothers

• The actor has been dating Sneha Chabbra for over two years

• The wedding is expected to happen sometime next year and will be a grand affair

• So far Iqbal has acted in two films debut in Fun2sh and Bullet, both flopped at the box-office

• He gets along famously with his Kaisa Yeh Pyaar Hai co-star Amit Tandon

• Iqbal was born and brought up in Kashmir, but he always aspired to become an actor

• He claims to be a typical Aquarian: honest, loyal, inventive and independent

• After investing in a swanky car, he is now anxious to buy a beautiful house for his bride-to-be

• His parents are not very fond of Mumbai; they complain that the weather is too hot

• He often takes Sneha and her mother out for dinners and movies

Rajiv Paul re-enters the Balaji camp

Just like the first time, the actor will play bad boy again

http://www.mumbaimirror.com/nmirror/mmpaper.asp?sectid=19&am p;articleid=532006224848484532006224834687

Ekta Kapoor's favourite bad boy: Rajiv Paul

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Somehow, television actor Rajiv Paul's chocolate boy looks never tempted Ekta Kapoor to cast him as a hero in any of her serials. Surely she sees him as a bad, bad boy. So in her Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, he played a mean rapist.

At that point, one really thought that there would be no looking back for this actor. But for some bizarre reason, Paul's track in the show went missing. A few months later he was back in the show… only to abruptly disappear once again. He says that post-Kahaani... there was nothing that could 'excite him'. The lean period continued for a while… till of course Nach Baliye happened.

He says: "Nach Baliye was a turning point in our lives. The adulation and love that we receive from people is beyond explanation. After that I received many offers but nothing that came my way made me go 'aha'."

But now, it seems that the hibernation is over. All things being equal, his rising and plunging career graph, might just find some stability now. The actor has been roped in to play the lead villain in Kavyanajali. Paul, of course is excited "My track went on air last week. Everything was so hushed that it still hasn't sunk in," he says.

Rumour had it once that his ouster from Kahaani… was because he and Ekta Kapoor had a difference of opinion on certain issues. However Paul clarifies, "We didn't have any spat." He further suggests that it was all a figment of someone's imagination.

He continues: "Ekta has always given me the best of roles. I had a terrific track in Kahani... I agree that we never got down to working with each other after that. But it was only because of the time factor. Ekta had told me to patiently wait as she wanted to offer me something substantial. And she did."

In Kayanjali, Paul is paired opposite Kishwar Merchant. The character he plays will create havoc in Anjali's life. He will be "taking over her business and making things worse for her."

Ask him if he isn't afraid of being typecast as an anti-hero and he is quick to reply: "I agree that I am playing a negative character again. But it is the depth and the meat that makes one character different from the other. I'm as excited about Kavyanjali as I was about Kahani... And no I don't fear getting tagged as a 'villain.' I'm an actor and it is even more challenging for me to essay similar roles with different body language and expressions. That's the beauty of a character."

• Ekta has always given me the best of roles. I had a terrific track in Kahani... I also agree that we never got down to working with each other after that. But it was only because of the time factor

Eijaz Khan's world turns upside down

The actor was stuck in his car which turned turtle yesterday

Sapana Patil Poojary

Last year was a year of road accidents. Any television star worth his or her salt was at the receiving end of some car trouble or the other. This year Eijaz Khan's name seems to lead the rest.

The television actor better known as Kavya of Kavyanajali met with an accident yesterday on his way to Saki Naka to shoot for Kavyanjali. He recounts: "I was driving on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road, which is partially blocked because of the construction work. Before I could realise it, a BEST bus hit my car (a black Chevrolet Tavera) from behind and it rolled, skidded and turned turtle. This is the second time I have suffered because our government doesn't think it necessary to complete projects. I have been seeing this road being repaired for ever. Warning signs are non-existent. A two-lane road turns into a single lane without ant sign board."

However things didn't end there. He continues: "I was stuck in the car and was calling out for help. But people being star-struck, just stood there. So, I called up someone from the production team, who rushed to the site and rescued me."

Obviously, the car is in a bad shape. Khan says that the "right side, the top portion and all the mirrors have almost ceased to exist."

Of the several cars that he has owned so far, the black Tavera is his favourite. Khan says, "I prefer to drive it to the sets because it's big enough to carry all my things; clothes, suits, vanity box and also my cycle… just in case I am in a mood to cycle back home!"

Fortunately Khan is in one piece and could carry on with his day's work. "I am fine and that's most important," he says
