Running in the dark
Actor Eijaz Khan may have an erratic work schedule, but the one constant of his day is his workout regimen post-midnight, says Leena Mogre
Actor Eijaz Khan is one person I know who despite his busy schedule makes time to ensure his fitness routine is not neglected. He comes to the gym at 1:30 am everyday while the rest of the world is fast asleep or partying. Very often people ask him if it is a good idea to workout out so late. His answer is, "Due to my busy lifestyle — shooting for two popular television shows namely Kkavyanjali and Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka, I only get that time to exercise. When I finish my shoot, instead of going home and sleeping and feeling tired the next day, I go to the gym, exercise, feel fresh and get a good night's sleep and wake up fresh."
Khan feels fitness is very important not only for actors or people who are from the glamour industry, but for everyone else too. Every one should exercise and eat a balanced meal, because it keeps you energetic and gives you a positive attitude, which is very important in order to deal with everyday stress in life.
The workout
• Four days weight training
• One day cardio (treadmill / elliptical) and power yoga
He does Power Yoga for:
• Increased flexibility
• To relieve stress
• And to remain calm.
Weight Training:
• Monday - Lower body
• Tuesday - Chest
• Wednesday - Cardio abs
• Thursday - Shoulder triceps
• Friday - Back biceps.
Khan is very particular about his diet even though he is on the sets and shooting at odd hours. When in an emergency he always carries his meal replacements (Lean Body) with him. His diet is as follows:
• Meal 1- Oatmeal, apple, orange
• Meal 2 - Two chappatis, bhaji made of green vegetables
• Meal 3 - Oatmeal bar (two), protein shake
• Meal 4 - Plain rice, dal and vegetables
• Meal 5 - Bananas, before workout .
• Post workout - Protein shake, amino acid tablets and green vegetables.
He eats oranges in between shoots because the strong light used for shooting and the constant air conditioning drains him out. Water and citrus fruits keep him hydrated.
He is very punctual about his workout timings. Being a male he loves to workout his legs, which I find very rare in men.
Besides the above, Khan practices martial arts and trains separately for that too. When he travels he does power yoga and exercises his abs, proving once again that if you have the will, you always find the time to exercise. I think people who say they have no time to exercise, should remember that only a busy person has time for everything and that is exactly why an individual gets busy in the first place.
