Snippets

There have been "television vamps" who become household names, such that the viewers love to hate them. Now, Arzoo Govitrikar has joined the bandwagon of beautiful women who love to be bad. She is gorgeous, ravishing and is all set to spice up the television as she stars in SaharaOne Television's Kituu… Sabb Jaantii Hai as Shweta.

Arzoo is happy to be playing the role of a journalist who is back from USA to avenge a family feud. "Although it is a negative character, I am enjoying the role. I don't see any similarities between Shweta and myself. In fact, I had to actually learn the body language of a journalist," says the younger sister of model Aditi Govitrikar.

Currently, Arzoo is also working in Ek Ladki Anjani Si on Sony where she plays a negative character. What is this idea behind doing just negative roles? "I am open to all kinds of roles. I am not just restricting myself to any particular kind of role. When I came across the script for the role of Shweta, I realised that it is indeed worthwhile doing it," explains Arzoo. She is also waiting for the release of the film Tulsi that stars Manisha Koirala and Irrfan Khan where she has a guest appearance. Whether a plump role or just a cameo, Arzoo is surely putting in her best into every bit of it.

How did you enter the TV world?
I was with 'Yatra', a theatre group called for some time. I have also performed in movies and serials as a child artiste.

This has been my education in this field. These qualifications together worked as my entry pass in the television industry.

What are your current projects on TV?
Presently, I have Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai on Sahara One and Tumhari Disha on Zee TV.

How much do you relate to the character in Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai?
In Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai I play Prabhakar, who is a protective and helpful character, especially towards Kittu.

In reality, I am not same as my serial character role but in some case or the other I am related to the character.

Did you always want to be an actor?
Yes. I started performing in dramas since my school days in Delhi. Later, I came to Mumbai and things worked out.

What are your hobbies?
Listening to music, watching and playing cricket and cooking.

Happiest moment of your life?
There are so many. I can't say exclusively. Probably it is yet to arrive.

Your Future plans?
I want to continue with TV. As for films, I would prefer an interesting role, as I have already performed in a couple of films.

I want to do commercial ads too, as I haven't done any so far

F Factor

Kyunki Shubhavi bhi kabhi Meera thi
Food n Fitness quotient of TV's most hated vamp

She plays the role of the vamp Meera in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to perfection. You love to hate her. However, in real life, Shubhaavi is quite the opposite. Young, health conscious and energetic, she possesses a maturity that belies her age. In the on going TV saga, she has devoured her co-stars for breakfast (with her acting prowess), lets see what she has for her meals... off-screen

ShaadiTimes unveils Shubhaavi's health and beauty regime.

A day in my life...
I take a warm water bath early in the morning; this is a must for me. It refreshes me completely and I am ready to face the day. I do not find time for exercise, but ideally, I would love to exercise. On a friend's advice, I am going to start skipping as an exercise, everyday for an hour. I don't have any carbs after 6 p.m. I have only one subzi , rice and dal for dinner. But these days, because of erratic shooting schedules, I am compelled to have carbs for dinner. I avoid oily food and non-veg food. I love sweets and I make it a point to have something sweet once a week. I believe that the body should not be deprived of anything for long periods. I have a chocolate or a brownie once in a while. I love sizzlers. I just can't do without having one every now and then.

From waist 35 to waist 30...
I was a 35 waist before and now I have reduced it to 30. It was a conscious effort to cut down the extra fat and maintain a good, healthy body. I did not go on a drastic diet. I did control my eating habits, but nothing drastic. These crash diets are not good for the body. I am just 25 years old right now and I want to have a healthy body and eating is an important factor. Our food intake should have a healthy combination of all type of foods, be it carbs, fibre or anything else.

My favourites...
Chicken Satellite Sizzler is my favourite dish. I am a multi-cuisine person. I like mushrooms, I like eating at McDonalds, I love the salads at Just Around The Corner... I love to eat and I eat a lot!

Cooking and me?
I do not cook. I can cook khichdi , aloo ki subzi and dal , but I am not a great cook. Although, people who have tasted food cooked by me have said that I can be a very good cook. My nani is the best cook in the world. There's just no comparison. She makes the tastiest fish curry, sukha chicken and kori roti . She's from Mangalore and has spent most of her life there and has not been exposed to different cuisines, but if given a chance, she can be one of the best cooks.

Water tanker
I remove my make up by using pure coconut oil, smuggled especially for me from Mangalore by my uncle! (Laughs). For good health, one should not starve. Gymming is a very good way of maintaining your body. If you cannot work out, cut out on fatty stuff. Have as much water as you can. I drink about 4 litres of water daily. It's a great cleanser and also a very effective coolant.

Table todh daala!

Amit Verma
It was supposed to be a cake-cutting spree for Ami Trivedi to celebrate her birthday on the sets of Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai.

Instead, it was her co-actor Amit Verma, who bore the brunt of a deep gnash on his hand. The incident occurred on the sets of the SaharaOne daily on Saturday at Chithrath Studios, Powai.

Fury unleashed

The unit had been told that after the shoot, there would be a small get-together to mark Ami's birthday. But due to Amit's sudden injury, the shoot had to be stopped for a while and the cake-cutting postponed for later in the evening.

"We were finishing off the shoot and one of the scenes involved a confrontation between me, Shweta (Arzoo Govitriker) and Rajpal (Tarun Khanna). There is this huge argument between us and I vent my fury," says Amit, who plays Kituu's love interest, Rohan.

While shooting it, Amit did a bit of on-the-spot improvisation for the scene. "It was an office room shot and there was this glass table in the room. To drive home my point and my anger, I banged my hand on the table."

Impromptu act

But this improvisation caused Amit immense agony. "The glass cracked and my palm was bleeding. Initially, I thought that the glass cracking would add to the scene, but within seconds, I realised that I was bleeding and was in terrible pain. I still completed the shot, though."

Later, Amit realised the gravity of the situation. "The bleeding just wouldn't stop. I had thumped the glass table with such great force, that I injured my palm."

The actor was immediately given medical assistance. "As it was rough glass, I had to take a tetanus shot. Later, I bandaged my hand and continued to shoot and even partook in the celebrations," says Amit, who earlier featured in Khichdi and Hotel Kingston (both on Star Plus).

Cakes galore

Ami Trivedi celebrated her birthday by cutting multiple cakes. She brought in her birthday with a bunch of friends just before midnight on Friday. Later, she rushed home to be with family and cut yet another cake with them.

On the sets of Kituu, she was surprised to see the celebrations that had been lined up for her with some more cakes to dig into!

wicked ways: Arzoo Govitriker

Vamp trap?
Is Arzoo Govitriker turning out to be the latest vamp on television? Besides the Sony show, Ek Ladki Anjaani Si, where she is out to dig her claws into the main protagonist Anu (Kanchi Kaul), she is now also seen in the SaharaOne soap, Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai.
Arzoo plays Shweta, a go-getter who has been brought up by her father's friend Balraj (the owner of the news channel where Kittu works). Shweta thinks that Rohan's (Amit Varma) father - who is a partner in the channel - is responsible for her family's bad times. So she now intends to destroy Rohan and anything that comes in her way, including Kituu (Ami Trivedi). Looks like Arzoo is glad to play characters with shades of grey on the small screen.

"I guess I'm simply lucky!"

She doesn't depend on one show to boost her popularity. Tellydoms bindaas girl ...Shveta Salve has portrayed many facets of a woman; be it a college girl, a corporate woman, a daughter-in-law, a wife......thus being lucky not to be typecasted. Sticking to her true self, Shveta has recently added a new feather to her long list of hatke roles. She plays a psychiatrist, Dr. Ritu Mishra, in SAB TV's latest offering, Left Right Left. Here's a candid conversation between Sameera Kapoor and the actor.

So, we finally see you in a new show, Left Right Left.....
Yeah, I feel good for two reasons. Firstly, after Sarkkar (Zee) this is my next project and second, I have worked with this production team (DJ's ) before. So, I am well versed with their style of working. DJ's are known for the passion and hard work they put in their projects. And I prefer the same style of working. So, it's but obvious that I'm enjoying my part in their new venture, Left Right Left.

"I am the friend, philosopher and guide of the cadets"

What made you say 'yes' to the role of Dr. Ritu Mishra in this show?
For the first time I get the opportunity to play a psychiatrist. I am the friend, philosopher and guide of the cadets. Their future depends upon my evaluation of how competent are they as army officers. So, it's quite a challenging and a substantial role. The importance assigned to my character and the treatment given makes me stand out.

So you are like an agony aunt for the cadets…
The term 'agony aunt' would be inappropriate. Reason being, Ritu is not there to say goody goody things to them. She is in fact, a no-nonsense woman, who does not mince words. She is very much aware that she's in a male dominated profession but doesn't allow her feminity to hinder her ambitions. In fact, her presence unnerves the men folk around.

Well, general perception is that those who have a tough exterior are otherwise very vulnerable and secretive. Do we foresee a dark past in Dr. Ritu's life?
Hmmm…. You'll have to wait and watch (laughs)! I will not divulge further details, but yes, as the story unfolds, you will know more facets of her persona. Ritu certainly doesn't exude 'what-you-see-is-what-you-get type of an attitude. There is something unsaid about her, which you will see as the serial proceeds.

We've heard that to retain authenticity, the actors underwent aggressive training at the Raigad Military School. How bad were you grilled?
Yes, but it was only for the cadets and their seniors. As I play a doctor and am not required to flex muscles, I was spared of the grueling training sessions.

Then you must have definitely done some homework for the role.....
Yes, I surfed the net, read articles on psychology and similar stuff. To get into the skin of the character I even studied some case files.

Do you identify with Dr.Ritu as a person?
No ways! Unlike Ritu, I am not a talkative person. I prefer listening and am a keen observer. Also Ritu is very blunt; she will call a spade a spade. However, I'll think hundred times before I open my mouth.

"I am positive it will create a good impact"

But your stint in Fear Factor (Sony) proves that you do opt for challenges like Dr. Ritu?
Absolutely, I am a complete outdoor girl. I love adventure sports. That's the main reason that I accepted to be a part of Fear Factor. The entire event was mind blasting!

You've been lucky to essay a variety of roles in your career. Was it intentional or things just fell into place?
I guess I'm simply lucky, that I got to experiment with my roles. It was never a deliberate attempt. It's the perception of the casting team; it's their say. With no offence meant, I feel, if one is confident, intelligent and attractive, you are chosen to essay diverse roles. Fortunately, I fall in that category and I have no qualms whatsoever.

But we have never seen you playing the gharelu bahu?
That's true, but if I am offered to play an interesting role of a bahu, I am game. I'm an actor and my duty is to act and not advocate what is good or bad. In fact, it would be a challenge to play that role in such a manner that it doesn't look clichd.

Coming back to Left..., what kind of response are you expecting?
Well, I am positive that it will create a good impact. But again, that depends on the viewers, whether they find me see a convincing psychiatrist in me.

We know you must be waiting for this over-asked question. How was it working with Rajeev Khandelwal?
It's like working with any other actor (laughs). Just kidding! Well, he is really a nice guy. It's really commendable that he has achieved so much in such a short span. Besides, in my opinion, there should be a chemistry off screen, then only will you recreate the magic on screen.

Got your point! So what type of chemistry exists between Ritu and Rajveer (Rajeev)?
Hey that's not fair! You want me to disclose everything right away. If I tell you everything then who will watch my show (laughs)!

Last question....any other projects?
Nothing as such, except that I'll be entering Kituu Sab Janti Hai on Sahara. It's my third show with Siddhant Productions where I play a corporate woman, Malaika, head of a news channel.

New innings for Shveta Salve

Shveta Salve
Shveta Salve seems to be one busy actress. Besides featuring in the SAB show, Left Right Left, the actress has landed herself two plum assignments.

She will be the new anchor of the daily telly gossip show, Popkorn. Salve steps in as a replacement for Mini Mathur who opted out last month. From next week, Salve will also be seen in the SaharaOne daily, Kituu Sabb Jaanti Hai, as the boss of a rival news agency.

She has featured in Kituu producer Manish Goswami's earlier shows, Kittie Party and Sarrkkar; this will be a hat trick for her with Goswami. Now, we only hope Salve can manage all three assignments with equal ease.

Shveta's hatrick with Manish Goswami

Shveta Salve is one busy bee now. The actor has recently grabbed her third show with Manish Goswami show, SaharaOne's Kittu Sab Janti Hai. Manish, who had cast Shveta in his previous serials Kittie Party and Sarrkkar says, "Shveta is very easy to work with. She is a thorough professional and a very talented actor. Working with her has always been a pleasure and I am glad she is now in KSJH too." Shveta plays the boss of a rival news agency in KSJH. We have always seen Shveta in wide-ranging characters and this one's another feather on her cap!

Chaya Unnikrishnan

Posted online:Monday, July 31, 2006 at 1430 hours IST

Amit Verma who plays a major character on Sahara One's Kituu Sab Jaanti Hai has decided to quit the show. When asked Amit said, "he strongly felt that his character was not going anywhere, the story was deviating from the main track a little too often, and above all, the future graph of his character did not excite him and added he has been thinking quite hard. It's not easy to say goodbye to a show which made him a household name. Manish Goswami said he met them but was unable to convince himself that he would enjoy the proceedings hereafter. When asked if they are going to replace Amit, Goswami replied it would be bad decision to replace Amit so they will end his character for ever.

When contacted Sahara One COO Purnendu Bose, he admits that its confirm Amit will no longer playing Rohan in Kituu. Amit's co-artists Ami Trivedi says it was hard to believe that Amit is no longer in the serial but it was fun to work with him. Naresh Suri was shocked too when he got news.

"I am in the process of shooting my last portions," Amit says. The tone was low and filled with lots of emotion. Kitu was learning process to me. I am too passionate about it. It will always be very, very close to my heart," he added.

It would be last week for Amit Verma than the show will add new faces to it.
