He had cast Shveta in his previous serials Kittie Party and Sarrkkar as well and says, "Shveta is very easy to work with. She is a thorough professional and a very talented actress. Working with her has always been a pleasure and I am glad she is now in KSJH too." Shveta plays the boss of a rival news agency in KSJH.

Speaking about her role Shveta said, "I don't need to grab a serial, I have always been a part of Siddhant Cinevision and I feel like a family member there. I play the character Malaika who is a boss of a news channel, and my rival is Kittu. My character is typical of today's women and my look is very corporate."

Amit ko gussa kyun aata hai?

Amit Verma, who plays Rohan, a mediaperson, in
Kittu Sab Janti Hai, shoots for 15 to 16 hours a day. He feels, it's difficult not to identify and get into the skin of the character one plays on screen. Though in real life, Amit is absolutely different from Rohan, he feels that his reel life persona is taking over the real one. "Though I'm not very impatient and aggressive by nature, acting like a moody person for more than half the day is affecting my real life too! I guess this happens to everyone. But I am sure that it's just a phase I'm going through. My gentle nature will always be my persona!" says the actor. One hopes that the actor doesn't take his onscreen persona too seriously. Or else, who knows he might have to take lessons in anger management soon.

Shveta Salve to host 'Popkorn' on Zoom

By Arpana, Mumbai: Small screen diva Shveta Salve is ready to entertain couch potatoes with juicy gossips about their favourite artistes as the new host of "Popkorn" on channel Zoom from Monday.

The actress, who became one of the most sought name after her stint in "Lipstick", "Kittie Party" and "Sarrkkar", replaces Mini Mathur and joins Shonali Nagrani to host the show alternately which is a daily round up of the latest happenings from the starry world of television, cinema and music at 8 p.m.

She is looking forward to anchoring and says it is like a breather for her.

"After acting in serials, you really enjoy the change when it comes back to hosting. It's refreshing," Shveta told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Asked about whether she would be uncomfortable talking about her colleagues' personal lives, she said: "I'm not the one who is leaking the information. The organisers are running it for a long time and they have a good reputation and I am sure they will be taking care of such things."

"Whatever I will say on the show will be scripted by someone else. I'm not going to write them. I just have to present what is given to me."

About her career on small screen, she said: "I think 'Lipstick' and 'Kittie Party' gave me the prominence on small screen. After these two serials people started recognising me."

A complete movie-buff, Shveta loves dancing and these days she can be seen as a psychiatrist in "Left Right Left" on SAB TV and a boss of a news agency in "Kittu Sab Janti Hai" on Sahara One.

Tellywood's erstwhile protagonists

Looks like there is a dearth of lead roles for television actresses who had earlier essayed central characters in popular serials. They are twiddling their thumbs and waiting for main roles to come by or are busy doing reality shows, because in this profession the dictum 'Out of sight, out of mind' applies with an alarming alacrity.

Many new faces have surfaced with new serials, and have become quite popular - for instance, Neha Bamb (Kaise Yeh Pyaar Hai), Kanchi Kaul (Ek Ladki Anjaani Si), Manasi Parekh (India Calling), Ami Trivedi (Kittu Sab Jaanti Hai), Rajashree Thakur (Saat Phere) and Prachi Desai (Kasamh Se).

So, where does that leave our earlier actresses like Aashka Goradia, Moulli Ganguly, Shama Sikander and Sonal Sehgal, who were equally talented?

Shama Sikender

Shama Sikander made not just the Gujjus of Ghatkopar proud but the entire nation
sit up and take notice of her as an ambitious student of film making when
she meandered through her role of Pooja Mehta, an obedient daughter, a lover and a feisty wife in Yeh Meri Life Hai on Sony. It was an out and out heroine-oriented serial with Shama in every frame. But once it became redundant, there was a curtain call for the show. Obviously Shama did not want to play any secondary character after having the entire story of YMLH revolve around her. Thus she ended up taking offers in episodic serials like Darna Mana Hai on Star One and is also one of the anchors in Jet Set Go for the same channel. She is currently keeping herself busy by shooting for another episodic one-hour teleserial based on real life stories, Man Mein Hai Vishwas, due to be launched in a leading channel. She also keeps her fingers crossed for a re-entry but this time as a heroine in Hindi films. She had earlier done miniscule roles in Bollywood films like Mann and Prem Aggan.

Aashka Goradia

After Kkusum on Sony wound up, Aashka Goradia who made her presence felt as Kusum's daughter Kumud, (she had earlier acted in Achanak) which involved
a lengthy and focused character, disappeared from the telly scene. After a spate of ill-fated car mishaps and surgeries, she reappeared as one of the anchors in Star One's reality show Jet Set Go! which was a short-lived one since the format demands that the anchor with the least number of points quits the show. Presently, of course, she is seen as Kinnari in Fireworks Productions' hero-oriented Akela who is the ex-flame of the hero, but has little to do as Kinnari when compared to her act as Kumud. One has to wait and watch how her role develops in this supernatural thriller.

Moulli Ganguly

Shaina as Ramola Sikand's daughter-in-law hit it big time in Kahiin Kissi Roz on Star Plus and so did Moulli Ganguly as Shaina, who won the viewers' sympathy for bearing the brunt of the wicked and wily ways of ma-in-law only to get killed by the vamp's endless plotting and made a re-entry as the grand-daughter. Soon the TRPs dipped bringing about its finale. By then most of the viewers had lost track of the ending. After that Moulli was seen doing brief stints in Kkusum, Sarkar and an episode of Darna Mana Hai but nothing substantial as the main protagonist. Though, there is still hope for her as she has been roped in for Hat's Off Productions' Resham Dankh, as the protagonist's wife. Moulli has also given a noteworthy performance in the movie Raincoat. She is said to be waiting for good offers to come her way, be it in films or television.

Sonal Sehgal

Remember the smart, perky Air Force officer in Sara Aakash on Star Plus, Sonal Sehgal. She was in the news due to rumours of her alleged relationship with her co-star Shakti Anand, till it died a natural death when he married Sai Deodhar, the other actress in the same serial. After essaying the role of the stylish, brusque and offhanded Director of Hotel Kingston on Star One, Sonal Sehgal is nowhere on the tele scene today except for modeling for ads. The reason: She fell in love with a guy from outside the industry, got married and has perhaps quit acting too. One can never say if she will decide to make a comeback tomorrow but the big question is will she be considered to play the main character!

My Character & I

Considering Kituu Sabb Jaantii Hai, we kickstart this brand new, weekly feature with Ami 'Kituu' Trivedi. Is she just like Kituu in character? Read on...
She was born that way! She has the knack of knowing and understanding everything under the sun. She's one of those Ms Know-It-All types right from an early age, that's what you call having a head start in everything. For Ami, on the other hand, life is a continuously learning process.
How come Kituu knows everything?
Astrology. Don't ask Kituu to forecast the future. There are people who come and ask Kituu to tell them what lies ahead. Kituu, like Ami, is not into astrology and numerology.
There must be something that Kituu doesn't know?
Kituu simply digs the whirr of the camera. That's what gets her into the know-it-all mode. Ami would rather prefer the pitter-patter of raindrops.
What sound does Kituu love?
She is a go-getter, so she would go to any lengths for any story. Nothing is impossible for her. To be honest, Ami is laidback and lazy and gives up very easily.
One assignment Kituu would go to any lengths for...
Cricketer. Or perhaps a cabbie or even a plumber. Considering she knows everything, there is no end to the vocation she would like to pursue. For Ami, it is acting.
If not a TV reporter, Kituu would have been a…
For Kituu, there is no battle on the agenda, but it is about getting the news, the right news, out. She would even give it to a rival channel if the channel she works for has their reservations about it. For Ami, the channel wars are all about introducing new characters, new action and new storylines for a slice of the viewership pie.
How does Kituu view the channel wars?
At present, the story track has her bedridden due to a paralytic attack, so it's easy for Kituu as she just has to lay still. This is helping Ami too, as she can take it easy from the hectic action!

My fond rakhi memories!

For a brother, a sister can be that interfering busybody, his closest friend, the one he protects, the one he shelters, the one he loves, and the one he sometimes scolds. For the sister, a brother, can be a pain, especially if he is overprotective, a comforting shoulder, a knight to protect her from the scalding looks and comments she is prone to attract. Thankfully, there is a day when this relationship is highlighted in the form of Raksha Bandhan.

A few of our telly celebs share with us their most memorable Rakhi day.

Tarun Khanna: Whenever I have been at my hometown in Delhi, all my cousin sisters land up together and tie me so many rakhis. But one day it so happened that I had a ramp show right on the day of Raksha Bandhan, near Chandigarh and I didn't want to disappoint my sisters. So I drove all the way from Chandigarh to Delhi, which was an eight hour drive, just to be there and make their day.

Shveta Salve: I have a brother who is eight years younger to me; he's more like a child to me. Unlike the normal course were sisters become rich on Raksha Bandhan, it's me who ends up spending a lot. Coming to one nostalgic rakhi day, I remember when he was in the ninth grade, he gifted me a lipstick and a hair brush. He said, "I felt so awkward in that ladies shop, buying such stuff". This sweet and thoughtful effort especially for me on his part meant a lot.

Amit Khanna: For me it is a day to call truce! My sister and I are always bickering about petty things. There have been times when we have not spoken for months and the matter gets resolved on Raksha Bandhan. So every Raksha Bandan holds special significance for me. Nevertheless, she makes sure to get even with me by digging a big hole in my pocket. But like a good brother, I always look forward to this day as the ritual of getting a rakhi tied is fun.

Mansi Verma: This auspicious day holds a different appeal for me. I had never tied a rakhi all my life as I don't have a brother. But thanks to CID Special Squad (Star One), I found a caring brother in my co-star Nimai Bali. It so happened that I always saw an uncanny resemblance between Nimai and Dharmendra, so I nicknamed him paaji. And a beautiful relation between us developed; he started treating me as his younger sister. He would look after to my needs, make me comfortable on the sets and get very possessive when I would be conversing with other co-stars. Thus I tied him a rakhi to commemorate all the good times that we shared. I am excited and looking forward to tie the holy thread on my paaji's wrist this Raksha Bandhan!

Salil Acharya: Back in my college days I was this typical kanjoos brother, the eternal black sheep of the family who would find ways not to spend money, especially on Raksha Bandhan. I would get away by giving my sister some chocolates or shagun. But once I was caught in a trap laid down by her. She bought a watch saying that it was a gift from her. I wore it but found it too feminine and told her to keep it. She later told me that it was actually meant for her; but the paying part was my headache. Since all this coincided with my allowance day I somehow managed to pay for the watch. She definitely taught me a lesson that day!

In spite of destiny having outsmarted them, not once but twice, Shyam and Radha of Star Plus' Pyaar Ke Do Naam…Ek Radha Ek Shyaam will again be fighting the odds in the 21st century. As per our source, Tarun Khanna of Kittu Sab Janti Hain fame has been penciled in as the new negative element of this love saga.

He plays Ajay Singh Rathod, Shyam's (Indraneil Sengupta) cousin, who nurtures a major grudge against his maternal grandfather, Vikrant Raj Rana (Shiv Subramaniam).

Shyam is the only member of the family who finds no reason to be vindictive.

Going in the flashback mode, the story is that Ajay's father was killed by Vikrant Rana, which creates a major rift between the Rathod and the Rana family.

Ajay's paternal grandfather, Gajendra Singh Rathod (Mukesh Khanna) instigates him to avenge the untimely death of his father. He thus becomes the bone of contention between both the families. This poses a problem in Kisna's and Radha's relationship, as latter is Vikrant Rana's granddaughter.

About Tarun's introduction in the show on 7 August: On the eve of a remembrance ceremony held for Ajay Rathod's father, members of the Rana family come over to pay their respect. An altercation occurs between them, whereupon Ajay (Tarun) marks his entry by placing a pistol on Vikrant Rana's head and threatens to shoot him.

Hope this effort of infusing a twist in the track will push the TRP's of this show!

What keeps Ami up all night?

It's 4.30 in the evening, and Ami Trivedi had just about managed to drag herself out of bed. Not that she's lazy, not that she's under the weather — it's just that she's been working real hard all night! "I walk in at home at a time when everybody is just dragging themselves out of bed!" she informs. "We have been shooting late night for the past couple of days and this has been my work schedule since quite some time," she adds. How does she manage to stay up all night? "Don't ask," she laments. "I've become a nocturnal animal," she laughs.

"I simply detest sarees"

She became the talk of the town for being the sister of ex-Mrs.World, Aditi Govitrikar. And slowly but steadily, Arzoo Govitrikar also paved her way in showbiz by trying her luck in films. But it was television that bought her the desired recognition. She started off with Sony's Ek Ladki Anjani Si and is also seen in SAB TV's Kittuu Sab Janti Hain.

In real life, this fashionista's sibling admits to being not-so-fashion-conscious. Unlike her on screen persona, who is aptly dressed, Arzoo is at the mercy of her mood when it comes to dressing. This ravishing actress shares her rather simplistic outlook on fashion with Sameera Kapoor.

" I am quite moody when it comes to dressing up."

"I am not a slave to fashion"
In fact, my temperament dictates what I'm going to wear. The other day, when I went for a movie, you would have found me in my worst avataar. I had oiled my hair and had worn a dirty, tattered jean. The only principle I follow is - Wear anything, but with the right attitude, which will make heads turn.

"I am a perpetual shopper"
So I end up shopping at least once a week. I buy anything and everything that captures my attention.

"Brand is not an issue for me"
I am pretty cool about wearing unbranded stuff; except for my footwear and jeans. Recently, I got hold of a few wonderful tees, each costing mere fifty bucks. As I hate ill-fitted jeans,I opt for a Diesel or Levis make.

"I love Tarun Tahiliani's collections"
His creations are awesome, very elegant and have a royal feel. The finesse is perfect and flawless.

"Besides denims, I love skirts"
I prefer nice floral, frilled skirts. They have a feminine appeal. Therefore you need not accesorise it with anything else.

I get cranky if I donot sleep well and have good wholesome meal.

"I simply detest sarees"
From the time I have been acting in serials, my characters have demanded me to be clad in Indian attires, especially ornate sarees with heavy-duty ornaments. My vote goes for western wear.

"I did go through a wardrobe malfunction"
Once when I was in London, I decided to go pubbing with my friends. I was wearing a denim hot pant, hence was denied an entry. So I used a shawl and wrapped it like a skirt. But as soon as we hit the dance floor, I forgot everything, and the shawl gave away in front of the entire crowd. It was really embrassing!

"I dress up very fast"
Fifteen minutes and I'm jet, set, go!

"I possess around 30 branded bags"

I am the proud owner of Chanel's latest collection, which is in vogue these days. It cost me a bomb, Rs. 93000/-.

"Mandira Bedi is the best dressed person in television"
She not only knows what to wear at a given event, but also flashes the right attitude to flaunt the attire.

"What people do not know is that....."
I get cranky if I do not sleep well and that I don't diet. I have a good wholesome meal.
