Chapter 4

Preet was pacing through the guest room of Maan house being bored just when his phone rang. He looked at his phone screen and it caused a big smile on his face. 'How much I needed this call, you are just right on time my little pumpkin', said Preet answering the call.

Veera: Why? Were you bored or missing me?
Preet: Both my partner in crime, both.
Veera: Good good, I was missing you too bhaiya.
Preet: By the way, about missing me, tell me how are you? You did not call me yesterday to check on me and to know all the news and views of here. Strange! *Confused voice*
Veera: Oh bhaiya, I am so sorry. I just got so tired studying for my test this week that I slept early. Ugh! When will I get to go to the college and finish this high school? *Frustrated*
Preet: College is no bed of roses either. I have completed college, I know. *Chuckles*
Veera: Whatever! Now tell me everything I need to know hehe. Hows everything there?
Preet: Great! I must say maa and chandni have picked the best family for Prem bhaiya and most importantly Heer bhabi, she is the nicest girl anyone can ask for. They all are so good people and bhabi is just perfect for our family.
Veera: Really?! Knowing how much protective you are towards our family, you already calling her bhabi explains how much special she is. Yee, I am so happy Preet bhaiya!
Preet: Haha, after PB if anyone knows me this better, thats only you pumpkin!
Veera: Hmm but I know something which even Prem bhaiya doesn't know.
Preet: And what is that?! *Trying to remember what Veera is meaning*
Veera: Your 'woh'! So mili kiya koyi uhape? (So did you find anyone there?) *Hopeful excited voice*
Preet: Calm down your hopes Veera. My woh won't show up so easily I think. You know what kind of girl I like, don't you?
Veera: Yeah yeah, she has to be simple, she has to love our family, she has to honest hearted, she has to be fun too, and the list goes on to find the perfect girl for the youngest son of the Junejas.
Preet: Haha, most importantly I just want someone who is good from heart and understands me. Lets see. By the way I forgot to tell you, Heer bhabi has a younger sister called Meher. Probably she is of my age or just close to mine. She is really naive and nice and I am teasing her to every bits. She hates me for that, its just so much fun haha.
Veera: Hmm, is that so? Does this Meher didi has any chance of being woh? Huh?
Preet: What?! Hahaha, she does not even like to face me and we did not even have a real conversation yet Veera, let alone having chances becoming my woh.
Veera: Uff! When will you get me my choti bhabi?! I hate you!
Preet: I don't know but whenever I will, you and PB will be the first one to know for sure and that day you can disclose the whole woh matter to PB. Till then thats our little secret!
Veera: Yeah yeah I know.

'Preet, tum kamrein mein ho?' (Preet are you in the room?), Heer's voice was heard along with her footsteps towards the guestroom.

Preet: Veera, Bhabi is looking for me. I will talk to you later okay? Take care pumpkin!
Veera: Okay bhaiya, Veera loves you and give my love to Heer bhabi and Meher didi too.
Preet: Not sure about Meher but yeah of course I can sucessfully tell that to Heer bhabi. Also Preet bhaiya loves his pumpkin too. Bye!
Veera: Haha! Bye bhaiya!

'Were you talking to someone Preet?', asked Heer smiling while entering the room.

Preet: Oh haan, Veera thi! Apko uske taraf se pyaar veja gaya hain, ye message mujhe dene ko bola usne. (Oh yes, it was Veera! She told me to give you the message that she sent you love)
Heer: How sweet of her! Next time when she calls, can you make me talk to her too?
Preet: Of course bhabi! Veera would be so happy.
Heer: *Smiles* Preet lunch has been served, I came to call you up to the table.
Preet: Okay bhabi lets go but before that I wanted to ask you something.
Heer: Yes Preet?
Preet: Are you happy with this marriage? Like you have never seen PB and never visited our house or spent time with us before, is it okay with you?
Heer: Thanks Preet for caring about me so dearly already and you know what? This gives you the answers of your own questions. If you are already so caring and chachaji- chachiji were so loving too, also veera too as you just said, I have no worries about which family I am choosing and about your bhaiya, I believe he is a very good man cause no one can go wrong in a family like this. Besides, my family is my everything Preet, I respect whatever my elders decide for me and I know they can't go wrong.
Preet: I was right, we could not have asked for a more perfect girl than you for our family bhabi. I am already so proud. *Smiles*

'And I feel already blessed to have a younger brother like you, ab chalo nehito khana thanda ho jayega' (Now lets go otherwise the food will be cold), said Heer smiling and patting Preet's cheek. Preet smiled back and nodded his head in affirmation.

That Day in the Afternoon

After the lunch when Preet was again feeling bored and was pacing around the whole house aimlessly, Teji noticed the matter and suggested him to take a stroll outside with Meher. Meher could show him their village and Preet could feel fresh too. Preet had absolutely loved the idea but Meher surely did not at first. Meher tried to come up with ideas to cancel the plan but much to her disapointment there were no way out. Balwant was gone to the market of a nearby village for work and of course Heer, the bride to be could not be assigned for the job. Teji and Daaljeet was not even in Meher's ideas but she has a slight feeling that Daaljeet may have taken the opportunity seeing the over acting and over pampering she had been showering Preet with. 'How pathetic, I will have to deal with Mr. musibat (Trouble) again', said Meher under her breath being irritated. But before she could go and look for Mr. musibat for the stroll out, Daaljeet called her from the kitchen.

Meher: Ji chachi? (Yes chachi?)
Daaljeet: Meher puttar, you know you are going out with whom? A juneja! A JUNEJA! Don't you dare harass that fine young man in any way and most importantly don't eat up all his money in buying you snacks and sweets on you little tour around Ambala. *Says in a negative remark way*
Meher: Don't worry chachi, I won't cause any trouble or eat anything with his money. *Looking down trying to control her tears and anger*
Daaljeet: Good for you, just look at you, you look like a baby elephant. Well no a big one actually. Whatever, listen, don't you try to be close with Preet at any cost. He is not your match. Don't just make anything worse for Heer beta. *Being rude and mean*
Meher: I am not interested in that irritating person anyway chachi and don't you worry, I care about my family and my sister way more than you.

'Did you just talk back to me?! Did you?!', fumed Daaljeet with anger holding Meher's hand tightly. Meher winced in pain but before she could reply Teji came to the kitchen and seeing her, Daaljeet let go off Meher's hand before Teji could notice. 'Beta, Preet is waiting outside, go fast', said Teji looking at Meher. 'She was just leaving parjaiji, hain na (Right) beta?', asked Daaljeet in a sweet voice to Meher. 'Ji (Yes)', replied Meher and ran away before her mother could see the tears which were whelming up in her eyes.

Preet and Meher were walking on the paths of Ambala for last ten minutes and Meher had not talked a word with Preet. Preet looked at her to start a conversation when he noticed Meher was looking for something or someone.

Preet: What are you looking for?!
Meher: Kids!
Preet: Kids?! You have kids? *Teasing*
Meher: Ha ha, very funny. *Mocking* I am looking for my kid gang, I called at one of their house and told to meet me here.
Preet: Wow, okay. I would love to meet your army but for now how about we have some samosa and jalebi from that cart? Man, they look delicious! *Rubbing hands together being excited*

Meher remembered what Daaljeet has told her and she was about to say no when all the kids came up to them. 'Meher didi, hum aa gaye! (Meher didi, we are here!)', said the kids in unison.

Meher: Areh baccho, I was looking for you guys for so long.
Chintu: We got a bit late because Tara had to finish her homework.
Preet: Okay, so you all go to school huh? Big kids. Hey! I am Preet Juneja, kya tumlog mujhse dosti karoge? (Will you guys be friends with me?) *Smiling*
Simi: Meher didi said you are a trouble but you don't seem like that. He seems to be nice didi. Friendship karle? (Can we be friends?)
Meher: Baccho!! He is no good, he is a trouble! *Meher said angrily looking at a very amused Preet*
Preet: Seems like the kids already like me Meher. So kids how about some snacks and sweets from that delicious looking cart?
Tara: Yes, Jalebiya!
Kunal: We all are in Preet bhaiya!

Meher looked at them with rolling eyes and opened mouth. Preet closed Meher's mouth with his hand an took Tara on his lap before walking towards the cart with all the other kids. 'Are you coming or not?', asked Preet looking back at Meher before making the order. Meher just turned her back to them and started walking.

Preet: Where is she going? *Surprised* Is she leaving us?
Simi: No bhaiya, she will be back. Whenever didi gets angry, she walks away but comes back within minutes.
Preet: Hahaha, it seems like your didi is also a bacchi, baccho.

Though the kids said Meher would come back really soon but when even after half an hour there was no sign of her, Preet got tensed. He asked for Meher again to the kids and this time the faces of the kids also reflected how concerned they were too.

Kunal: I think didi has gone to the way of the jungle.
Preet: Jungle?! What?! *Shocked*
Kunal: Yeah there is a jungle near our village and Meher didi walked towards the road which goes to the jungle.
Preet: Why did not you guys tell me before?!
Simi: Because she always comes back whenever she goes towards that road too.
Chintu: What if Viren has taken our didi?
Preet: Wait, now who is that Chintu?! *Runs his hand through his face being frustated*
Tara: Bhaiya thats a bad boy who disturbs our Meher didi a lot. Meher didi does not like him but he insists on getting married to didi.
Preet: What?! Baccho, you go home now and don't any of you do otherwise while I go and look for your didi okay?
Chintu: Okay Preet bhaiya. Chalo sab (Lets go everyone).

As the kids were tensed too so they did not try to protest and went back home while Preet kept on looking for Meher following the direction where he saw her last heading toward to. It has been almost one hour but no sign of Meher was found. Preet was scared and tensed would be an understatement by that time cause Preet had been walking into the jungle for last 15 mins and he himself was confused that if he went any further, would he be able to find back the path to go out. When Preet was rubbing his forehead thinking what to do next he suddenly heard a cry and it of course did sound familiar. He followed the direction of the coming crying only to find a very scared looking Meher sitting under a tree and sobbing. 'Meher', Preet called out her name softly from behind. Meher being shocked by the sudden voice screamed out, 'Viren, go away, go!'.

Preet: Thats me Preet, whats wrong Meher?! *Making Meher stand up and face him*
Meher: Preet?! How did you find me?!
Preet: Thats not important, why are you in such a state?! Why did you leave us and how you ended up here?
Meher: Everything happened because of you, just you. If you had not being so good with kids and taken them to the cart, I would not have left. When I tried to go back to you guys, that creep Viren blocked my road and tried to talk the useless things he always want to talk about. I got scared being alone on the road and ran away. I had only the jungle in front of me so I ended up here. I got lost in the jungle. But that does not bother you, right? You don't even know Viren. Also do you know there are so many foxes roaming around here? I heard them making noise. What if they had eaten me? *Said Meher in between crying*
Preet: Fox, nice. To your much disapointment, I do know about Viren, the kids told me. And I can guess he had given you marriage proposal again from which you saved yourself by inviting yourself in a treat to foxes.
Meher: Does this seem like a joke to you? *Angry tone*
Preet: No but thats none of my fault here. Why did you walk away? Why do you hate me so much Meher? I have done nothing bad to you, I love teasing you every now and then cause you are such a naive and nice girl and its fun this way. I am never serious whatever I say to you, come on.
Meher: Fun?! I don't need this fun, bye now.

Meher tried to walk away again but Preet grabbed her wrist.

Preet: Enough is enough Meher Maan! I am not letting you being more crazy. If you want yourself to be a feast to the foxes its your wish but I can't let my Heer bhabi's sister be a feast to them. So come on now and follow me to the path back to Ambala.
Meher: I can do that alone. Go away!
Preet: Yeah sure, thats why you got lost in here. Moreover, how about your roadside ashique (Lover boy) makes a come back here, how about that?

Meher was about to protest but she realized it was her own good if she agreed with Preet so she said nothing and started walking towards the way Preet was suggesting. Preet just smiled and ran behind her to keep up with her walking speed.

After much like around 45 minutes they were again back to the market place right in front of that cart from where Meher left. 'I have been walking for last almost 2 hours and its also evening now. I need some food, will you care to accompany now or you again have intension to have a wild run away?', Preet asked Meher pointing at the cart. Meher at first pressed her lips to decide what she would do and then finally gave in with Preet's idea.
They both walked back home quite silently, just talking about the food they had at they cart once or twice. 'Nice Ambala strolling done, I must say', said Preet standing in front of the Maan house. As soon as he finished his sentence, his phone beeped. He read the text message and smiled widely. 'Prem bhaiya is coming tomorrow morning', said Preet looking at Meher.

Meher: What?! Really?! He was supposed to come tomorrow evening nah?
Preet: Yes but maa told him to come to Ambala straight instead of going to Juneja Mansion back and then coming here.
Meher: Thats great, I can't wait to break the news to Heer didi! *Being excited*
Preet: I am going to tell bhabi first.
Meher: No me, I am.
Preet: No, I got the news first so I am going to.
Meher: No no no.

'Preet, Meher are you two fighting?!', Heer's voice made both of them look at the main gate of the Maan house when Heer was standing. Preet and Meher looked at each other and in order to break the news first to Heer, they ended up screaming in unison, 'PB/Prem jeeju is coming tomorrow morning!!!', making Heer very nervous with the sudden news.

I'm loving the bounding between Heer&Preet... these 2 are so adorable! And Heer is without a doubt the best daughter in law that the Junejas can get... so sweet understanding and caring! Seems that Prem is going to meet Heer in next chapter... can't wait!
