WOWOWOW. Fatimaaa, I loved the update. So much interesting. Ash is up to something for sure and I just want Preet to get it somehow. Meher is too naive to understand anything. I love Veera and Sam. Heer is just too cute in this story. My favourite character of the story is Heer.

Reveal soon. Suspense suspense.

Chapter 36: Hungama Ho Gaya

Preet had barely parked his car before he jumped out and raced to the entrance of Club Nirvana. Never in his life had he driven faster than he had tonight. Veera had called. She was at this club and there was some sort of trouble. He hadn't waited for her to give him the details.

As he cut through the public waiting in line in front of the doors, he was stopped by a bouncer. "Where do you think you're going man?" the burly man demanded. "Can't you see there is a line?"

"Look man...my sister is inside...," explained Preet. "Something is wrong. She needs help."

"I've seen guys come here looking to pick up a lot of stuff, but never a sister," the man joked with his partner.

"Take a look at those girls back there," the other man motioned to the long line behind Preet. It was dotted with chatty flirtatious young women of all shapes and sizes dressed in western attire, and an almost equal number of young men vying for their attention. "Do they look like they want to be anyone's sister?"

"You don't understand...," tried Preet.

"No you don't understand! Now, get lost!" said the bouncer. "All the way to the back of the line."

"Look, if you let me through, I'll make it worth your while," said Preet. He pulled out his wallet and flashed several big bills in front of the men's noses.

Moments later...

Preet stood at one end of the packed club looking for a familiar face among the mass of bodies swaying to music loud enough to give anyone a headache. Colored lights lit up the dance floor, while dim lighting shaded it edges, and darkened the more exclusive areas. How the hell was he supposed to find Veera?! He pulled out his phone and called his sister. "Where are you?!" he yelled as she answered.

"In the back...over to your left...," she said. Her reply was barely audible over the music.

Preet looked towards the left and saw his sister jump up and wave at him. He quickly made his way over to her. "Are you okay?" he asked with concern.

"Yes," sighed Veera.

"Good! Because I'm going to kill you when we get home," growled Preet.

"But Preet Bhaiya...," said Veera.

"I don't want to hear it!" said Preet, as he took his sister by the arm and began to walk away. "We're going straight home! You're lucky I didn't tell Heer Bhabi or anyone else where you were calling from!"

Veera pulled her arm out from her brother's grip. "We can't leave right now Preet Bhaiya! Not without Sam and Meher."

"Meher?" Preet said in surprise. "She and Sam are here too?"

Veera nodded apologetically.

"Well where the hell are they?!" cried Preet.

Veera pointed a shaky finger towards the bar.

"Wooo!!!!" cried Meher, as she downed another drink and spun herself on the bar stool she was sitting on. She stopped herself by placing her hands on the bar. "A round of drinks for everyone...on me!" she ordered the bartender.

"Meher what are you doing?" cried Sam. "That's the 3rd round you've ordered. Do you have any idea how many people are in this place? And...and...you don't drink...so why are you doing all this now?"

"I'm...I'm letting my hair down!" squeaked Meher, as she spun herself around again. "You should try it too. It's fun!"

"Yeah well, I think we've had enough fun to last us a lifetime," sighed Sam. "Come on, we should find Veera and Ash. They must be worried about us. It's getting late and we have to go home."

"No!" Meher shook her head like a child throwing a tantrum. "I don't want to go home! No one is worried about me! No one cares about me!"

"I do," said Preet, as he and Veera appeared at Sam's side. "I care about you Meher."

"Preet!" smiled Meher. She jumped off her stool and threw her arms around his neck and hugged him. "What are you doing here?"

"Veera called me," said Preet. "She said you guys needed some help."

"We sure do," sighed Sam. "Meher's drunk!"

"I am not!" protested Meher, as she sat back down and rubbed her forehead with her hand. "I just...I just can't think too clearly right now. Whoops!" She giggled to herself as she spun herself around again and nearly fell off the bar stool.

"Whoa, steady there Meher," said Preet as he caught her and helped her back up. "You really need to stop spinning around."

"Okay," smiled Meher. She picked up a bowl of nuts from the bar and offered it to Preet. "Want a peanut?"

"No, it's okay." Preet took the bowl from her and returned it to the bar counter. He picked up Meher's glass, took a sniff of it and frowned. "Is this what you've been drinking?"

Meher nodded and smiled. "You want some? It's orange soda...it's really good too."

"Meher that's not just soda...that's alcohol in there," sighed Preet. "How did she wind up with alcohol in her drink?" He asked Sam.

"I don't know," Sam shook her head. "Veera and I went to the ladies room. We were gone for about 10 minutes, and when we came back she was sitting in some guy named Dheer's lap!"

"Nice hair...Dheer I mean," Meher piped up. Her speech was slightly slurred. "He had nice hair. But mine is definitely nicer." She picked up a peanut and tried to balance it on her nose. A disappointed expression broke out on her face when it fell to floor and disappeared in the dark.

Preet shook his head. "You guys should never have come here in the first place. Veera, I expected you to know better at least."

"It's not my fault Preet Bhaiya," said Veera. "Ash brought us here."

"Ash?" said Preet.

"She said she had a girls' night out planned for us. I didn't want to come here, but then she practically dared us," said Veera. "I couldn't back down from a dare, could I?"

"Veera, this isn't a dare...it's stupidity," Preet scolded her. "This place is under the police radar for suspicion of drugs. What if someone had slipped you guys something?"

"You're right," sighed Veera. "Look, can we just go home and not tell anyone about this."

"What about Ash?" said Sam. "She said she saw someone she knew and left us here, then never came back. It's been almost an hour now. We tried to call her but she's not answering her phone. What if she's in trouble?"

"Great!" sighed Preet.

"Don't worry, I'll find her!" volunteered Meher. To Preet's surprise, she climbed up onto the slippery sticky surface of the bar. For a moment, the room spun before her eyes and her knees wobbled, but she put her arms out to steady her footing. "Ashlesha!!!" she cupped her mouth and screamed.

"Meher, please!" Preet reached out and offered her his hand. "Come down from there. You can get hurt! We'll find Ash some other way."

Just then the song Hungama Ho Gaya, from the movie Queen began to play.

"Ooo, I love that song!" Meher squealed and clapped her hands in delight.

Preet passed his hand over his face in frustration as she refused to get down and started to sing and dance along with the upbeat music. As the crowd began to swell, another girl who was obviously drunk too, climbed up onto the bar next to Meher. She took off the vest she was wearing and tossed it into the dancing crowd.

"I hate wearing heels!" said Meher. Mimicking the girl, she took off her shoes and threw them into the crowd. "And I'm tired of wearing this too!" She took off her dupatta and tossed it as well.

"Hey Queen!" Someone called out. "What else are you going to take off?"

Preet glared angrily towards the crowd, but there was no way to determine who had shouted that remark. "Oh God! Meher will you please come down from there," he said.

"But I like it up here," said Meher. "And I...I want to dance."

"Meher please," pleaded Preet. He offered her his hand again.

"Okay," giggled Meher. "But only because you asked so nicely." As she tried to climb down from the bar, an arm reached out and pulled her leg. She flew headfirst into the crowd and before she knew what was happening, she was being passed around like a bag of chips.

"Damn!" cried Preet. "You 2 stay right here and don't move." He instructed Sam and Veera. "I'll go get her."

Meanwhile...

Meher wasn't sure how, but she somehow managed to get back on her feet. Her head hurt, and her stomach felt queasy. "Preet?" she mumbled to herself as she looked around the dance floor, dazed and confused. "Where are you?" She tried to find her way out but the crowd was too thick and the dancers too drunk to be bothered about her. She bumped into some guy, who caught her by the wrist and pulled her close to him, thinking she was looking for a partner.

"What...what are you doing?" protested Meher. "I...I don't want to dance with you. I don't even know who you are!"

"That can be easily taken care of," said the man, as he leaned in closer to her. "Mmm...you smell so good." Meher struggled to break free from his grip, but he held her tight against him. "You smell like..."

"Back off!" growled Preet, as he grabbed the man's shoulder and shoved him away.

"Preet!" smiled Meher.

"Hey man what the hell is wrong with you?!" The man snarled.

"She's with me," said Preet.

"Oh yeah?" said the man.

"Yeah!" squeaked Meher. "I'm with him! Waise Preet...You were just over there." She pointed a finger in the direction of the bar. "What are you doing here?"

"Because you're here," said Preet.

"That's right!" She threw her arms around his neck and gazed into his eyes. "Because...you care about me...no...not just care...you love me...hai na Preet?"

Preet nodded and gave her a soft smile.

Meher took a step back, pushed up her sleeves and turned around to wave an accusing finger at the man who had been trying to dance with her. "And you're in big trouble mister! Because Preet is going to pulverize you! Wham! She hit her fist into her hand for emphasis. "Preet...you...you have to hit him. He...he said I smelled."

"What the...?" the man rolled his eyes.

"And that can't possibly be true, because I bathe every day," Meher made a pouty face. "Maro isko Preet! Aisi aisi jaga pe maro ke dawai bhi na laga sake (Hit him where he won't even be able to apply medicine)!"

Preet placed a hand over his mouth to stifle a smile. The girl was too cute for words, even when she was drunk. He cleared his throat and glared at the confused looking young man. "So...uh...you want to step away, or do we have to take this outside?"

"Me fight you for this loony bin? Forget it man, you can have her. There's plenty of fish in the sea." The man shook his head, threw Meher a look of disgust and walked away.

"Hey! You come back here!" Meher pumped her fist in the air. "Let's see who's the man now! Who the man!"

"Meher...let it go," chuckled Preet.

"But he called me a fish!" complained Meher.

"Okay...my feisty little punjaban...it's late...and we need to get you home," smiled Preet. He put his arm around her protectively and guided her through the crowd back to where Sam and Veera were waiting.

"Is she okay?" Sam asked worriedly.

"Yes, smiled Preet. "A little tipsy, but otherwise she seems just fine. Were you able to get in touch with Ash?"

"She's still not answering her phone," Veera said worriedly. "What if she's hurt? Oh God! I wish we had never come here."

As the small group were about to leave, the bartender called out to them, waving a bill. "Hey you guys, who's gonna fill this tab?"

Preet walked back and took the bill from him. His eyes grew wide at the total amount due. "Just how many drinks did Meher have?" he asked his sister.

"It's not just her," explained the bartender. "You're girlfriend here has been buying everyone in the joint free drinks on her."

Just then Meher hiccuped. "Oops!" she said and covered her mouth with her hand.

Preet shook his head and handed the bartender his credit card.

A short while later...

Once outside, Meher took a deep breath letting the fresh air rush into her lungs. As she slowly walked with her friends towards Preet's car, she put her hand on her head. She was feeling dizzy again and stumbled forward.

Preet caught her before she fell. He snaked his arms around her waist then lifted her up slightly to help her get back to her feet. "Are you okay?" he asked gently. "Can you walk?"

"I...I think so...," said Meher. She stared at her feet. Something was not right with them. "I...I think I forgot my shoes inside. I...I have to go back inside and get them."

"No!" Preet, Veera and Sam cried out in unison.

"We'll be home soon enough," Sam quickly offered. "You can put on another pair of shoes then."

"But those were Ashlesha's," said Meher. "She'll be mad at me if she finds out I lost them. You know she said they would make my hips look smaller. Don't tell her I told you...but...I think she thinks I'm fat. You don't think I'm fat, do you Preet?"

"What?...uh...no...of course not," smiled Preet. He had been caught off guard with an out of the blue question like that.

"You hesitated," Meher frowned. "You're lying aren't you?"

"No, I'm not Meher," smiled Preet. He reached over and tucked a wisp of loose hair behind her ear. "Tum jaisi bhi ho...bauhat achi ho (You're perfect just the way you are)."

"I don't believe you," said Meher. She covered her mouth with her hand as she hiccuped again, then started walking off.

Preet motioned for Sam and Veera to stay where they were then ran after her. "Meher wait!" He said. "Where do you think you're going?"

"Home," said Meher. She looked to her right then left in a confused manner. "But...which way is it?"

"Come...I'll drive you home," said Preet. He tried to take her by the arm, but she took several steps away from him.

"Don't you touch me!" Meher wagged a warning finger at him. "I just remembered...you're married to Ashlesha."

"Not married...engaged," Preet corrected her.

"Same difference," frowned Meher. "I can take care of myself. I...uh...I can walk home."

"Barefoot?" sighed Preet.

"Oh yeah!" Giggled Meher. "I don't have any shoes on." Just then a young man passed by on his motorcycle. Meher waved her hand and stopped him. "Hey mister...can you give me ride?"

"Sure...hop on babes," he grinned.

Meher was about to climb onto the back of the motorcycle, when Preet pulled her back.

"Oh no you don't!" He cried. "And you...," he glared at the young man on the bike. "Take a hike man!"

"Yeah! Take a hike!" said Meher.

"What?" the young man said in surprise.

"Do you know who I am?" Meher asked him.

"No," he said.

"Shame on you then! Didn't your mother ever teach you not to talk to strangers?" Meher admonished him.

"What the hell?! You're the one who asked me for a ride. You're nuts girl!" said the man before riding away.

"You see," Meher said proudly. "I can take care of myself." She hiccupped again. "I even know boxing. Here, I'll show you..."

Preet ducked as she threw a wild punch in the air just barely missing him. "Okay...that's enough Meher!" he said. "I'm taking you home and that's final!" He took hold of her arm only to have her start pounding him in protest with her free fist. And when that had no affect on him, she grabbed a fistful of his hair and started pulling it.

"Ow! Meher stop!" said Preet.

"Meher!" cried Sam as she and Veera ran over to help. "Have you gone mad? Why are you hitting Preet? He's trying to help you!"

"Because he...he...Uuuggghhh!" Meher let Preet go and hugged her stomach. Her face grew pale as she struggled with a growing feeling of uneasiness. "I don't feel so good." Suddenly her stomach heaved and she threw up at Preet's feet.

"Looks like she's not the only one who lost a pair of shoes tonight," remarked Sam.

"Sam," sighed Preet, as Meher continued to empty the contents of her stomach on his shoes. "There's a roll of paper towels in the car...do you mind?"

"Oh, yeah sure," nodded Sam. She ran to the car and came back with the roll.

Preet handed Meher over to Sam and Veera, then walked over to the trunk of his car. Luckily his gym bag was in there, along with a pair of sneakers. He quickly discarded his soiled shoes, cleaned his feet and put on the sneakers. He got back to the girls just as Meher threw up a second time. Exhausted she nearly collapsed in his arms.

"Come on Cinderella," sighed Preet. "Time to get you home." He scooped her up in his arms, while Sam and Veera ran ahead to open the car door for him.

Meher didn't say a word. She had gone from feeling very hot to too cold. And she felt completely drained. She couldn't see or think clearly, but knew she was safe wrapped up in Preet's arms.

Moments later...

Sam got into the backseat of Preet's car, and helped him place Meher next to her so that she could rest her head on her shoulder. She kept the left over roll of paper towels in her lap just in case her friend threw up again.

Preet then got into the driver seat and Veera sat down next to him.

"Bhaiya, what about Ash?" asked Veera. "We still don't know where she is. As if on cue, Veera's phone rang. "Ash Bhabi?! Are you alright? Where are you? We've been so worried."

"Sorry Veera," Ashlesha said apologetically. "I just kept running into one friend after another. And then, one of them invited me to a really neat party at their place. I guess I just forgot about you guys."

"Forgot about us?" Veera said getting angry. "What do you mean you forgot about us?! You mean to say you abandoned us in that hellhole on purpose! Do you have any idea what happened tonight?"

Preet and Sam also grew angry at the conversation they were over-hearing.

"What could possibly have happened?" laughed Ashlesha. "You guys probably had a couple of drinks and had a good time right?"

"Wrong!" cried Veera. "Meher got drunk and now she's sick!"

"Oh God!" sighed Ashlesha. "Of all the stupid things to do!"

"Meher is not the stupid one here Ash, you are!" Veera snapped back. "The poor girl made an honest mistake, and so did we all by agreeing to go out with you!"

"Is that anyway to talk to your future bhabi?" Ashlesha fought back. "What would Preet think if he heard you speak to me like that?!"

"Why don't you ask him yourself?" smiled Veer. "He's sitting right here next to me." She handed the phone to her brother.

"Heh-Heh," a nervous chuckle escaped from Ashlehsa's lips. "Preet darling! What are you doing there? If I had known you were coming..."

"Shut up Ash!" said Preet. "Just shut up and thank your lucky stars that you're not standing in front of me right now. If anything had happened to Meh...to any of the girls...I'd..." He shook his head too angry to say any more.

"The girls? Is that all you care about?" scoffed Ashelsha. "Don't you care about me?"

"You seem to be alright," Preet said flatly. "You know...self-centered, self-absorbed, and uncaring as usual."

"Uff! Whatever!" cried Ashlesha. "Acha listen. Don't take Meher back to my place. I don't want my Mom to see her like that. I'll get in troub...I mean...Meher...she'll tell Meher's mom and then Meher will get in trouble. Let her spend the night at Sam's place, and I'll come by and pick her up in the morning."

"And just where are you?" asked Preet.

"Ah! So you do care," laughed Ashlesha.

Preet rolled his eyes.

"Well, if you must know...I'm...uh...at a friend's place," said Ashlesha. "I can hang out here till morning no problem."

Preet hung up the phone and handed it back to Veera, then explained the situation to her and Sam. "Are you sure you're okay with this?" he asked Sam.

"Yeah, my mom and dad are out of town for a few days," she said. "No one will know anything."

Preet drove his sister home first, then drove Meher and Sam back to the Singh's residence. Once there, he helped her out of the car. She was still in a groggy state and her steps faltered several times, but he held her close to him.

Sam led the way to the guest room upstairs, and quickly pulled the bed covers back so that Meher could lie down. Preet helped Meher sit on the bed, but she got up almost immediately and covered her mouth with her hand. He caught her as she stumbled into his chest. He could tell she was going to be sick again. He helped her to the washroom and held back her hair as she threw up again. "Are you alright?" he asked, as he knelt besides her and rubbed her back.

Meher nodded quietly.

Preet let her go just long enough to wet a small towel at the washbasin, then came back and wiped her face clean with it. When he was certain she was in stable condition, he led her back to the bedroom.

Sam was on the phone. She hung up just as her friends returned, and quickly helped Meher get back into bed. "That was Veera," she explained. "She was worried about Meher."

Preet nodded. "How do you feel now?" he asked Meher.

"I'm so tired," sighed Meher. She held her head with her hand. "My head hurts something awful."

"I know," Preet patted her hand gently. "You young lady need a good night's rest...you'll feel better in the morning."

"I will?" said Meher.

"Pakka (definitely)," said Preet.

"I'm sorry Preet," sobbed Meher. "I'm so sorry. I never meant to cause any trouble. You must hate me."

"Shhh...," Preet put a finger on her lips to quiet her, then pulled her into a hug. "I could never hate you Meher. I love you too much."

Meher buried her face in his chest as his strong arms wrapped firmly around her waist, pulling her close, comforting her, reassuring her that everything was going to be okay. "I love you too Preet," she whispered. "Really and truly love you...Dil se."

Stunned by her confession, he looked down at her through those long eyelashes of his and his face softened into a gentle smile. That was the last thing she saw before she fell asleep cradled in his arms.

Preet held her like that for sometime until he felt Sam tap him on his shoulders. "I think she's asleep now," she whispered.

Preet nodded. He gently placed Meher's head on the pillow, and tucked the covers under her chin.

Sam smiled as she watched him reluctantly pull away from her friend. "Is that the first time?" she whispered.

"Huhn? What?" said Preet.

"Is that the first time she's confessed her feelings for you?" grinned Sam.

"Yeah," Preet smiled shyly. "Well...I better get going. Let me know if you need anything."

Sam nodded and smiled.

As Preet walked to the door, he turned back to look at Meher once more. It seemed like he had waited forever for the moment she would tell him that she loved him, and now, she finally had. It was too bad she probably wouldn't remember doing so in the morning.

Hi Fatima 🤗

Page 42

You wrote so interestingly just like watching these scenes play on TV.

Dunno what to say about Ash. Preet talking to Ash was woah 😆
Veera had a late realization. I feel sad for Sam - she was not only fooled unnecessarily but dragged into the mess. Where is Gaurav I forgot - is he out of town?

okie so what excuse are Ash and Meher gona give when they get back to Rampals next day?
If DJ believed Ash's story again then she is a dumbo mom of the year. Lets see what happens there.

Very entertaining.
