CHAPTER 8
'Praji-parjaiji, oh praji-parjaiji' , Daaljeet's shouting were heard all over the Juneja household. She came back from India that day as she had a wedding ceremony to attend there and when she came to know about the same aparment building thing from Veera, she could not just take it. Hearing her shouting, everyone came out of their rooms and gathered at the big drawing hall.
Lalit: What is wrong Daaljeet? Why are you shouting like this? *Being both worried and tensed by Daaljeet's shouting*
Gayatri: Yeah, Daaljeet everything is alright na? *Tensed too*
Daaljeet: Huh! How can everything be alright parjaiji? How can? I just went to Mumbai to attend the wedding of my friend's daughter and you people did this?
Prem: What we did Buaji? * confused*
Daaljeet: What you did? Did not your maa-bauji and you all decided to give your sister-in-law the other flat in the same building with Preet?
Herman: Yeah buaji, Meher's hostel seat got cancelled. The university authority was having some legal issues with the new hostel so they won't be able to provide the hostel facility to Meher.
Veera: See buaji? I told you na?
Daaljeet: Stay quiet you kids. You do not understand all these but Praji, Parjaiji, how could you two?
They both are young and moreover, I have seen that Meher being over friendly with our Preet baccha on Prem's wedding.
Heer looked shockingly at Daaljeet hearing her words.
Lalit: Enough Daaljeet, you can not say anything about Meher like this. You have met her just for two times. She is a very nice and well behaved girl.
Daaljeet: Okay even if she is, how come, Baalraaj praji and Teji parjaiji gave permission? I mean, I know they don't have money but at least they have some self respect na?
Heer could not take it anymore so she spoke up...
Heer: Buaji, my maa-papaji did not want to keep Meher there willingly, but they have trust on Preet and Maa-bauji.
Daaljeet: Yeah that they should have. Our Preet is a very decent kid and so is our family. But...
Before Daaljeet could speak up any further Gayatri stopped her...
Gayatri: Daaljeet, your praji has said na, that it is enough? Why are you making it such a big issue? Go to your room now. Take rest, I am arranging tea and some snacks for you.
Daaljeet: But parjaiji...*annoyed*
Lalit: Daaljeet do what your bhaabi said...
Daaljeet gave Heer an angry look and left the place. Gayatri went to Heer and held her hand.
Gayatri: Heer beta, please don't be upset, Daaljeet's nature is such. She is not bad from heart but just a bit rude from outside.
Heer: Maa I know. Don't worry I am not hurt. Let me arrange tea and snacks for buaji...
Heer smiled and left the place...
Lalit: I am so happy today because I realised how much lucky I am to get a daughter-in-law like Heer. Prem: Why Bauji?
Gayatri: Because Heer was hurt but she did not want to show it to anyone else. Such a matured kid. You wanted to say the same thing, right Kulraaj's bauji?
Lalit: Yes, Gayatri yes.

It was almost evening and Meher was planning to cook dinner when Preet walked into the kitchen.
Meher: Hi Preet! When did you come back?
Preet: Just now. Glad that both of our official works of the university are done. It was so hectic though.
Meher: See? I told you that let me accompany you but no, you went alone. You must be exhausted, after all you left at the noon. Let me make you some coffee.
Preet: Aww, you are just too nice Meher. By the way, what are you planning to cook?
Meher: I was thinking of cooking some pasta and chicken burgers with two dipping sauce. Oh yes french fries and choclate milshake too. Ashlesha and Viren must like the foreign foods so much. Like they must because they are brought up in Canada and now studying here.
Preet: Wait what?! *Being surprised* Where did you learn all these? I mean, in Ambala these things are not common at all i guess. *Not so sure face*
Meher: *Smiled* Yeah Preet, they are not but as you can see me, I am a big foodie and Maya always used to take me out in Delhi to so many different places to give me the tastes of different cuisines. Hence, I know these things and youtube is always there to help haha.
Preet: Whoah! Smart girl I must say hmm? But...*Making sad dramatic face* There is a little problem you know?
Meher: Problem? Do I need to cook some more dishes too? No problem I know to make some more foreign dishes too.
Preet: Haha no Meher not that. Ashlesha and Viren would eat me up if they will get the same boring foreign food at my place too. At least Ashlesha will kill me for sure. She is a typical India lover and we all are Indian food lover.
Meher: Really? *Surprised*
Preet: Hmm Meher really. So I would suggest you to cook some punjabi dishes for us and make us lassi. That would be awesome.
Meher: *Being too happy* Sure Preet, I will make a lot of dishes.
Preet: Yaay! That is like my Punjabi kudi. Let me help you now.
Meher: No no Preet it is completely okay, the help with the kheer was enough. *Laughed out loud*
Preet: *Being dramatic* Yeah yeah, no one thinks of this poor soul. He did help you, did not he?
Meher: Hahaha Preet yes you did and I am very grateful for that but now go, here is your coffee, have it and then get freshen up. After that take some rest. By the way, want some cookies too?
Preet: No thanks. Okay Meher I am going now and leaving you to cook peacefully.
Time passed by and Meher finished cooking her seven dish dinner meal along with lassi. Preet was spellbound to see so many dishes. He admired how hard working Meher was and how much she cared for everyone. Preet and Meher were just done placing the dishes on their dining table when the door bell rang. Preet ran to open the door. Meher followed him.
Preet: VIREEEN, ASHLESHA! I am just too happy to see you guys. *Hugged Viren and Ashlesha*
Viren: Preet we missed you too much pal.
Ashlesha: Yeah sure we did. Hey! *Looking at Meher* You must be Meher right? Heard a lot about you from Preet. *Hugged Meher*
Meher: *Hugging Ashlesha* Hi Ashlesha, it is great meeting you. Preet was too excited about you two and I have heard a lot about you two also...
Viren: Hello I am Viren here. *Shakes hand with Meher* I hope Preet talked good things about us.
Meher: Hahaha yeah he did.
Ashlesha: By the way, we are starving after the journey. We even called Preet to keep the food ready.
Meher: Yes yes the table is ready, you guys get freshen up and come..
Preet: Yeah make it fast, then come and see the feast on the table...
They had a real good time having food, Viren and Ashlesha were not stopping to praise Meher's cooking skills. They were sitting on the sofa of the drawing room and talking to each other...
Ashlesha: I must say Meher, you reminded me of India very badly and trust me, the cooking of our moms. You are amazing.
Preet: After all she is my childhood bestie.
Viren: Yeah sure why not. All your best friends deserve an award for bearing you.
Preet: What did you say Viru? *irritated voice*
Viren: What you heard Preeto.
Meher: Viru-Preeto?! *Laughs a bit*
Ashlesha: Yes Meher, I am Ash and they are Viru and Preeto..We call each other by these nicknames. Don't worry you will get a nickname soon too..
Meher: Eagerly waiting for that Ash. I hope I can call you guys by the nicknames too?...
Viren: Yeah sure Meher.
Preet: Meher, you have become already so close to both of them, wow.
Ashlesha: Why won't she? She is amazing.
Viren: By the way Preet I was thinking of having a good gaming time. You have it here, right Preeto? Ash plays too, so Meher you can join us also.
Meher: Umm but I don't know how to play...
Preet: Let it be Viren, Meher is very tired I am sure...Meher you go and sleep please, you have been working since morning. I will teach you the video game some other time and then we four can play...
Meher: No Preet it is okay.

Ashlesha: Chill Preeto, yesterday I had a little accident while making tea. Nothing serious, I forgot my burnt cream at home so told Meher to give the one from your first aid box as I knew Gayatri chachi always keeps all these emergency stuffs in the first aid box.
Meher: Yeah my maa too.
Preet: That is alright but what you were you doing in the kitchen, Ash? Dreaming? Uff! Meher get me the box, I will check on her stupidity. *Angry*
Meher brought the box and Preet took it from her. Preet started applying the cream on Ashlesha's hand while scolding her again.
Meher: Guys, I am going to bed now okay? If you guys need anything do not hesitate to wake me up.
Viren: That won't be needed hopefully Meher, we have this duffer Preeto with us na?
Preet: Wow you duffer Viru.
Ashlesha: Goodnight Meher. I will come to the room after finishing our gaming.
Preet: You sure you can play with this hand?
Ashlesha: Are you kidding me Preet? It is just a little burn on my left hand. You would even have not known about it if I did not tell it to Meher.
Preet: Makes sense though. Okay you can play but Meher I would suggest you to keep the door closed because otherwise you will get to hear our crazy screamings and loud noises of our jumps.
Meher: Hahaha okay Preet.
Meher walked to her bedroom and while closing the door she looked at Preet and Ashlesha, thinking how stupid she was to start getting even a little bit weak for Preet where Preet was already so in love with Ashlesha. Meher smiled looking at them and felt happy that she got to know about Preet's feeling before it was too late. She closed the door being happy for Preet and Ashlesha.
