A lot of filmmakers have personal exposure to small cities. And the charm of romance still exists in the hinterland

Since the mid-90s, Bollywood's romantic films have been set around big cities, colleges and foreign locales. Now, the trend seems to be changing as an increasing number of filmmakers are turning to smaller towns as the setting for their love stories.
Priyanka Chopra will be seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia's small-town film Milan TalkiesArjun Kapoor and Parineeti Chopra's Ishaqzaade (2012) was set in the quaint town of Almora, Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor feel in love in Benares in Raanjhanaa (2013). Justreleased Issaq is based in the bylanes of an Uttar Pradesh town. The latest on the list is Yash Raj Film's (YRF) Shuddh Desi Romance (SDR) that's set in Jaipur.
"A lot of filmmakers have personal exposure to small cities. And the charm of romance still exists in the hinterland, unlike in big cities, where it comes with a lot of cynicism," says Issaq director Manish Tiwary.
In fact, YRF has even gone a step ahead to conduct a 30-city research across the country, to study changing romantic behaviour in small towns. SDR writer Jaideep Sahni even spent time in Jaipur to pen the script, so that he could see the city and be inspired by his experiences there.
In the past few years, a handful of films have been set in smaller cities. Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2000), Ishqiya (2010) and Tanu Weds Manu (2011) are a few examples. "Our audiences have had enough of stories set in UK, US and Switzerland. At one point it was a big trend, but why won't we watch stories of our own soil," opines trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
And the trend is here to stay. In the coming months, films like Tiger Shroff's debut, Heropanti, Tigmanshu Dhulia's Milan Talkies starring Priyanka Chopra and Imran Khan, and Karan Johar's Gori Tere Pyaar Mein will all have small towns as backdrops. Dhulia explains: "Where is the conflict in love in a big city like Mumbai? Love is still difficult for those living in small towns."

A source says, "As Sushant started his career on TV, YRF wants to
capitalise on his popularity. Usually, the production house is selective
about promoting their films on the small screen, but this time around,
they want to explore it to their advantage."
The insider adds, "Although it isn't confirmed, but Sushant might
be seen on Pavitra Rishta, among other popular shows." SDR, which also
features Parineeti Chopra, releases on September 6.
The spokesperson of the film says, "Yes, we are in conversation
with leading channels to integrate and promote the film on their shows.
There is a huge demand from their side as Sushant and Parineeti are
popular among the youth."
Sushant Singh Rajput is a young, intelligent and handsome actor who
made his debut in Abhishek Kapoor's movie Kai Po Che. I said intelligent
because we all know about his TV and filmy career but there is one
thing very few people know about him. He had secured all India rank 7 in
AIEEE (All India Engineering Entrance Exam). Multi-talented dude! Isn't
he?
He dropped out of his college because of his passion for performing
arts. Yes! He is a great dancer and Martial Artist too. After coming to
Mumbai in 2002, he worked for Balaji Telifilms in a very popular daily
soap 'Kis desh main hain meraa dil' (as Preet). Sushant's
adorable personality, impressive acting skills and hard work led him to
bag the lead role of Manav in Zee TV's most watched serial 'Pavitra
Rishta'. After that he appeared in dance shows like 'Zara Nachake
Dikha-2', 'Jhalak Dikh Laja-4' which gave him huge popularity and
appreciation. He got many awards for the role in Pavitra Rishta and as a
dancer too. He became one of the most popular and favorite Tv actor.
Later in Oct-2011 he left 'Pavitra Rishta' to pursue filmmaking course
in abroad.
Meanwhile he assisted Mohit Suri for Raaz-2. Sushant auditioned for
'Kai po che' and got the role of one of the three leads. He potrayed
Ishan's (Ish) character so nicely that it was hard to take eyes off from
him. The movie was the adaption of Chetan Bhagat's bestseller novel '3
mistakes of my life' and Sushant really justified the role. He was the
perfect one for Ish's character.
It's his hard work, confidence that helped him to grab such success
that he has signed 4 new Bollywood films. Soon, He will be seen in
Manish Banarjee's 'Shuddha Desi Romance' under Yashraj films banner,
starring opposite Parineeti Chopra and Vaani Kapoor. And his upcoming
projects are P.K. with Rajukumaar Hirani (in 2004, Aamir Khan and
Anushka Sharma in lead roles), Fitoor (2014), Detective Byomkesh Bakshi
(to be released in December 2014, as a lead role of Byomkesh Bakshi).
'Among the new generation of actors, Sushant is promising. He never
shows off his acting. It is very subtle and inherent. He is a very good
actor.' told Dibakar Banarjee, the director of 'Detective Byomkesh
Bakshi'. His towel act in the film 'Shuddha Desi Romance' resembles
Salman khan and Ranbir Kapoor. So finally he has given up his shy, boy
next door image with 'Shuddha Desi Romance'.
Romours says that Sushant secretly got married with Ankita Lokhande
(his co-star in 'Pavitra Rishta'). And he has been said to replace
Shahid Kapoor in a remake of Korean film- 'My girl friend is an agent'.
See how fast this star is getting fame and Film projects. It's for sure
that he will become a superstar soon. Rajput will rock bollywood films
with his killing looks and acting skills. Luck is by your side Sushant,
so now it's in your hand to continue working hard to reach to the
superstar's position.
