Moments that matter!!!
In the busy streets of New York City, he walked alone. Its' been five years of his stay there now. As he walked back to his apartment, he passed through the familiar surroundings.
He could see a couple nearby, running after each other. He stopped to stare at them. They seemed to be fighting over something.
"Hey' that's unfair. Give my ice-cream back to me" He saw a girl running after a guy who was jumping around happily enjoying the ice-cream.
The girl stopped and sighed. She sat on the bench on the side of the road sulking. The boy joined her still relishing the ice-cream. She crossed her arms in anger. The guy smiled and put the ice-cream cone in front of her.
Her anger melted in a second on seeing the ice-cream. She immediately snatched the ice-cream from his hands and licked it while the guy laughed.
"You know what' you're still a kid" He shook his head.
She didn't bother much as she was busy licking and he was staring at her. She stopped for a second and asked him if he wanted a bite. He nodded. She took it to his mouth and while he was about to lick, she rubbed it against his nose and mouth. Before he could react, she ran away laughing. He followed her and hugged her from back before swirling her round in the air.
"Pleaseee stop it' my head is spinning" She complained.
"Not until you say sorry" He shrieked.
"Okay'okay I'm sorry" She said.
"You know that's not the way to ask her for sorry" He winked as he put her down.
"Oh really then how do you do it?" She said playing along.
He pulled her closer to him and rubbed his nose on hers.
"Stop it" She hit him.
"Well you wanted to know right?" He complained.
"Please' not here. Lets' go" She said dragging her along with him.
He saw the couple cross him walking hand-in hand content and happy. What wrong has he done? Why does he not deserve the happiness?
He moved ahead. He went to the florist from where he regularly gets flowers. He saw the shop crowded as usual. He picked a special bouquet when he felt someone take it from him'
He turned in that direction to see,
The guy who took his bouquet handed it over to a girl,
"I can't tell you how special these three years have been spending every moment with you. I used to hate waking up early in the morning but after you entered my life' I look forward to every morning which greets me good morning with your sweet smile and cup of coffee. I used to hate rain but when I met you, I realized the beauty of it. I love it when you jump and play in it like a kid. I love it when you collect the raindrops and hit me with them. When I get sick and you take care of me, the pain seems to vanish like wind. You stood by me in good and bad. The support you gave me and the sacrifices you did when I was running after my dream job' I can't afford to miss even a single moment of life without you. I want you to be by my support, my strength, my friend, my guide and 'my wife'Will you marry me???" He saw the guy go on his knees and take a ring out of his pocket.
He saw tears of joy flow out of the girls' eyes as she squatted to his level and hugged the guy. Amidst the cheer and thunder of the crowd, he saw the guy slip the ring into the girl's finger.
He paid for bouquet which looked the same and walked out of the shop while the thunder and applause still ringed in his ears. He controlled the tears which were about to fall.
He went to the park as he didn't have the courage to go home. He put the bouquet next to him. He saw a couple who were in their wedding dress sit on the bench next to him.
"You are mine now. No one can ever separate you from me." The guy said as he held the girl's hand and kissed it.
"Same goes with you. If ever you're going to leave me alone, I'm not going to come back to you" The girl said with determination.
"Why would I ever leave my beautiful wife and go and where would I go? Wherever I go, your memories will haunt me and would get me back to you" He said smiling.
"That's true. You can't evade me wherever you go because I reside in here" She said resting her face on his heart. "And as long as this keeps beating I'm with you"
"and for this to beat you've to be there with me always as its connected to another heart which is there with you" He winked.
"Ohh then I promise I'll be there always like your shadow. I'm warning you even if you get fed up of me I'm not going to leave you." She warned him.
"Well we've the next seven lives too to decide if I'll ever get fed up of you" He said.
"Seven lives??? First just think about this one life ahead. Lets' go home. Its' already late" She said getting up covering her arms to protect herself from cold.
He stood up with his arms open and she immediately snuggled into him. They went away.
He kept staring in the direction they left, god knows for how long. He came out of the trance when he saw someone coming from the same direction'
The girl was blind folded and the guy walked behind her carefully guiding her ahead. He took her to a tree which was full in bloom. He tugged on the blindfold and asked her to keep the eyes closed. He instructed her to open her eyes and as she slowly opened. She was drenched in the flower rain as he shook the branches of the tree hard.
She danced around as the petals fell on her and he happily saw her.
"So this is the surprise?" She asked crossing her arms.
"Well for the starters I thought this would do" He slowly walked to her and she felt nervous under his passionate gaze.
"Happy first anniversary" He uttered against her lips and they were lost in love-land for some time. They broke out and she hid herself in his arms.
"So, how was the beginning?" He asked.
"Perfect' just like you" She said looking into his eyes.
"I thought we'd begin from here' you remember we came here right after we got married." He told her as her eyes glinted with happiness as she recalled the time.
"Much before that we met here' Don't you remember both of us were in such of a place to live and that's when we decided we'll share the expenses and find a room together?" She said
"And from a room we moved onto an apartment and our relation also changed from friendship to love to marriage'" He continued.
"Thank you" She kissed his cheek. He handed her a red rose while she happily took it.
"Ready for the next surprise madam?" He bowed a little.
"Sure" She said linking her arm with his and they went away. This gaze rested on the couple till they were out of sight. He saw the bouquet lying next to him and picked it up. He uttered something to himself and started on his journey.
He reached a building and stopped as he saw a couple fighting over where to place the nameplate.
"It should go there'" The girl said and the boy said "No'there" He pointed.
Both turned in opposite directions for some time and then cooling down a little turned to face each other. It'll go there they pointed and then looked in the direction they pointed. They laughed as both pointed to the same place. They put it together and then dipped their hands in sandalwood paste and pressed it to the wall below the nameplate. They moved away to examine their work and gave wide smile to each other.
The couple went away happily while he stood staring at the name plate. A lady stood at the door and welcomed him in. He saw the couple arranging the furniture fighting, playing and hitting each other. They seemed to be so happy. The boy went into the kitchen.
"I'm telling you Nooo" The girl came after him.
"I will and you can't stop me today" The boy said determined.
"You'll hurt yourself" She said worried.
"No I'll not" He said.
She gave up and stood in a corner as he chopped the vegetables
"Ahhh" She heard him shriek and ran over to him. Blood was oozing out and she immediately put it in her mouth. He smiled as she took care of the wound, washing it carefully and then applying bandage.
"I told you, didn't I? You never listen to me. Now sit here and don't say a word" She commanded.
He put finger on his mouth and she went back in to the kitchen. After 15 minutes, she came back with soup and made him drink it. He smiled as she fed him.
He saw the couple happily feeding each other and leave.
He too made something for himself.
He freshened himself and got ready. He saw the girl helping the boy with his tie and coat while the boy was giving her a tough time romancing her.
He came out and he felt so did the boy. "Bye take care" He heard a female voice. "Yes and you too' I'll be there in the mall by 12:00 don't come late" The boy instructed and left. He too left from there.
As he was passing the mall, he saw the boy waiting for the girl but she didn't come yet. The boy looked at his watch in frustration and then he saw her coming from the other end of the road. He waved to her and she raised her hand to wave. Before he could see her do that, she was dashed by a car'
"Heeerrr" He shrieked as he came back to reality.

He made his way to the hospital room no.143 which he has been visiting since the past one week. She saw her lying on the bed with a pool of machines around her. He walked into the room and placed the bouquet on the table and the cover on the table.
"Happy second anniversary Heer" He whispered against her lips.
He kept stroking her hair.
"Two years back, the same day you promised me Heer that you'll never leave me then now can you do this to me' I can't see you lying lifeless here. Why are you giving so much pain to both of us Heer? Please come back' open your eyes. As you said, wherever I go I see you' every moment spent with you come in front of my eyes. Are you listening? I've waited patiently for you to come back' for me' for us' but you' You won't budge. Enough Heer' Wake up now." Prem shrunk his face into the bed crying.
He wiped his tears and was about to walk away when he felt someone caught his wrist. He saw Heer trying to open her eyes. "Nurse" He called.
Immediately the nurse informed the doctor and they sent Prem out. He stood out praying to god for her well-being. The doctor came out.
"Congratulations Mr. Juneja' Mrs Juneja is out of coma. She is stable. Your prayers are finally answered. Go to her" The doctor patted on his back and left.
He went and sat on the chair beside the bed. He didn't look at her.
"Angry on me?" She caught hold of his hand which was on the bed.
"I thought you would be happy if I wake up from my deep sleep but seems like you're not I'll go back" She was about to close her eyes when she saw Prem raise his hand.
"Do you even know what I went through when the doctor told me until you open your eyes he cannot assure me'..?? " He said closing his eyes in pain.
"What can I do? Till now I thought my heart was under your control but seems like my brain is under your control too' until you scolded it failed to respond' you should have called me earlier itself'" She said pouting.
"Heeerrr" Prem was shocked to see her making fun in such a situation.
"Prem can you bend a little?" She asked him. He brought his face near hers and she kissed his lips "Sorry"
"See I still remember how to ask for sorry" She smiled and he smiled back seeing her naughty side. He knew she was trying to ease off his pain.
"Oh so you remember this bouquet too??" He said taking it over from the table and handing it to her.
"Of course' I know from where you got it too'hmm'from the florist shop, where you proposed me" Her eyes glinted with happiness as she tried to sit up and Prem adjusted the bed.
"Good so you must remember the occasion too" He winked.
"So these flowers because of special occasion today? I thought you used to get flowers for me daily. I'm hurt to know that you didn't" She frowned.
"Well don't worry I'll compensate for it" He get on to the bed beside her and kissed her cheeks.
"Hmm ok I'll forgive you. So, what's the occasion today??" She tried to think.
"Prem for how many days was I unconscious?" She asked him.
"Days??? You were unconscious for one whole week'." He felt miserable as he recalled the week that seemed to pass like ages'
"I'm sorry Prem" She said cupping his cheek with her palm.
"No, I'm sorry Heer. I just couldn't live without you." He said calming himself and hugged her trying not to hurt her.
"It wasn't my mistake Prem, the car took a wrong turn" She said as she tried to recall what happened.
"Shhh don't talk about it now" He said and broke the hug.
"Prem I feel really hungry" She said.
"One minute" He reached out to the table and opened the packet.
He poured the soup into the bowl and made her drink it.
"Did you make it?" She asked surprised.
"Yes and I didn't cut my fingers. See" he said and showed her his hand.
She smiled "Good"
"and what about the taste?" He asked raising his eyebrow.
"It's really good Prem. You're going to make it once we're home too" She said and he nodded.
"Prem, did you do this every day in this week or today?" She asked facing him.
"I don't know I just felt you're going to come back to me today." He said holding her hand.
"because today is special?" She asked.
"Might be or might be because I had faith that you wouldn't break your promise you gave me two years ago" He said his eyes captivating hers.
"Wait' that means' today'today is our second anniversary?" She excitingly asked him and he silently nodded.
"Happy anniversary Prem" She hugged him.
"Happy anniversary to you too Heer" He hugged her back.
"Premm we can't go to the park this time" She frowned.
"I went in the morning Heer. I could feel you everywhere there' I could see us promising each other, I could see you dancing in the petal rain like you were when we went there on our first anniversary" He saw tears falling out of her eyes and he wiped them.
"You know how precious these are to me' please don't let them out" He pulled her cheeks and she smiled.
"Heer you should rest now. I'll go and talk to the doctor" He put her to sleep and went to the doctor.

Two days later she was discharged. They stood in front of their house. Her hand wiped the nameplate which read "Prem & Heer". She smiled as she recalled how they placed it there and saw the left over traces of their imprints there. She frowned a little and smiled again when she saw Prem put a small thali in front of her which had sandalwood & turmeric paste. She dipped her hands in it and pasted them in the same place and later he followed.
She was welcomed in by her mother-in-law with aarti.
"Maa I'm really sorry. You had to leave papa and come" She said to Gayatri.
"Shh' You are safe now, that's best news for me and your papa. Don't worry after hearing that you're back home, he's really happy. He'll be here tomorrow" Gayatri patted Heer's cheek.
"Oh he's coming. That'll be great Maa' We can celebrate papa's 50th birthday here then" She said excitedly.
"Sure beta but to plan all that you should be strong enough' Take rest and get well soon" She told Prem to take Heer to room.
"Finally I feel alive' coming back to home." She fell back on the bed.
"Heerrr' careful" Prem shouted.
"Premm I'm completely ok now. Doctor told you, didn't he?" She asked.
"Yes but then he also told me you need to rest for two-three days so that you'll gain strength to be back in routine" He said as he rested beside her on bed.
"Ok sir. I will' with you and Maa here and also papa from tomorrow I'm sure for a week all I'm going to do is rest" She sighed and lied on his chest.
He caressed her hair.
"Premmm" He heard her voice.
"More than me you need to rest' I'm sure whole week you would have not slept at all. So you need to rest now" She got up from his arms and caressed his hair.
"There's a small condition for that" He winked.
"And that is?" She rolled her eyes.
He simply pulled her into his arms and made her face rest against his heart. They slept happily dreaming of their happy life ahead!!!
P.S. This piece of work is a result of exploring joblessness while on job... 😆 For those who dn't understand my above statement leave it doesn't matter but what matters is your feedback... Do tell me how it was so that I can improve... these days i'm very much speaking like an analyst but u can't help it when u're surrounded by a bunch of them 😉
