Meher was so happy for her sister but her happiness was never comlete as she thought of her father. She was often found staring out into space and everyone would worry for her. It wasn't like Meher to be quiet. Meher normally laughed off the concern and would hug her father. everyone was also getting worried for Balraj. He looked skinnier, paler, and weaker. He would take "long business trips" and come back weaker each time. He told everyone that the tension of the business was getting heavier and stress from heer's impending marriage.
Heer's mehndi day finally arrived. Meher put on a ferozi colored lengha with beaded with silver. She put her hair up, curling her pony tail. She carefully lined her lips and eyes. She looked gorgeous, and of course she wanted to after all she was the brides sister! Today she and balraj forgot all their worrries and danced at heer's mehndi. Everyone admired the maan daughters, even veera conceded that they were pretty. Everyone was present- Harman was busy texting his girlfriend, veera rolled her eyes as she walked by the pungent smelling food, preet had taken a liking to Ash, meher's cousin, gayathri and teji were busy making sure Heer's mehndi was just right, kuldi and kiran were chasing their kids. Balraj and lalit were dancing, meher pulled in prem who couldn't keep his eyes off of Heer. Once the dancing settled down, Balraj grabbed the mic from the DJ. "Excuse me, can I get your attention, please?" Everyone turned and looked at Balraj.
"In the happiness of Prem and Heer's Marriage, I would like to announce that Lallit and I want our other two children Preet and Meher to get married as well." Meher's face went white, as did Preet's. Gayathri and Teji brought preet and meher to the front. As everyone clapped. After receiveing congratulations from everyone, Meher ran up to her room. She sat in the dark and thought about what had just happened. How could she marry Preet? Did she even love him? She thought about all of the time they had spent together and how he never failed to bring a smile to her lips. Maybe marriage wasn't such a horrible idea.
Just as meher began to wipe her tears, Preet came into her room. Meher tried to smile. Preet, " I am so sorry, meher. Please don't cry. I don't want to get married either. I'll talk to bauji and uncle tomorrow. "
Meher was shocked. Of course, how could she be so stupid. He didnt love her.
"Are you coming?" preet gave her a hand.
"um, no. I am going to freshen up. I will be down in a bit." meher said.

Next morning
As preet and meher were going to talk to their fathers, they hear a loud shriek. Both rush down stairs to the living room. They see balraj coughing up blood. Balraj points to meher and she immediately calls the doctor. Balraj is rushed to the hospital. Once in the waiting room, all eyes turn to meher. Meher who couldn't stop crying pauses and says, "He has cancer."
Teji faints and heer rushes to get her water. Meher tells them everything and gayathri comforts her. Teji is livid as to why Meher kept this from her and refuses to talk to meher. The doctor says Balraj would like to talk to all of them. As they all gather, Balraj begins, " i want to see both of my daughters married before anything happens to me." As he says that heer and meher both rush their hands to his mouth. "Its okay, girls. I plan to play with my grandkids, I just want to be sure." balraj says laughing.
"I am so glad you two have found prem and preet. I want you guys married on the same day as well. "He took each daughter's hand and put them with the boys' hands. Meher started, "But bauji..." when preet held her arm back and shook his head indicating for her not to say anything.
As they left the hospital, Meher questioned Preet, "Why didnt you let me say anything?"
"Meher, your father is sick- how can we do this to him?" preet said
"But we cant get married. we dont love each other? that would ruin our lives( meher silently pleaded that preet would say he loved her)." meher said almost trying to pacify herself.
Just then Teji walked in, " you have already done enough damage meher. you have to get married for your father's sake." She left with a coldness in her voice.
Meher rushed out the room in tears. Preet looked on hopelessly.
Okay, so this is part 6. I think I am going to write Part 7 soon, before I forget the story line! Aren't you guys proud of me? All of this updating! 😆 thanks for all your support! you guys are wnderful!
