Part 5

Preet snuck into the Maan residence early to put his plan in action. He then snuck into meher's room, where she was changing. Preet immediately turned around out of respect, but it was too late. Meher had seen him. Her eyes grew wide and her cheeks turned scarlet. She immediately covered herself and then was about to scream, but preet muffled her voice with his hand. She bit his hand. "ouch!" preet yelled. "Ap pagal hogaye ho? Apki hone wali saali ka room mein goos gaye aur mein change kari thi!" meher said. Preet smiled and put on his best majnu face( he learned from Prem), "woh mein tumse yeh kehne aya tha ke mein heer se shadi nahi, tumse shadhi karna chahta hoon. Mein tumhe change karte waqt jaan much ko nahi dekha. "meher's eyes grew even wider and she was about to say something, but preet stopped her by planting a kiss on her cheek and saying" mein tumhare jawab ka intezaar karoonga at the moo mitha."Meher paced in her room as she did not know what to do. She couldn't let heer di marry such a crazy man who was eyeing other women.

. She came down stairs and saw her parents immerssed in decorations. "arre, Meher, tum tayyar kyun nahi ho?" teji said. "Haan maa bas abhi tayyar hoti hoon, likin Di kahan hai?." meher said.

"woh parlor gayi hai, bas abhi aati hogi." teji said.

Meher bit her lip and thought she would tell heer as soon as she came home. Meher got ready in a simple pink sari her mother made her wear. Heer arrived soon after and meher tried to talk to her but heer slipped passed her saying she was late. Meher was too scared to go down and see him . She heard Teji call her and reluctantly went down stairs. She saw him wink at her and she couldn't take it anymore. She stormed down the stairs and said "Heer di, prem se nahi shaadi kar sakti hai!" everyone turned and looked at meher confused. "likin Kyun?" prem said( actual prem). Meher looked at him and said because, "prem is a cheat."
How am I a cheat?" prem said.
"Not you, your brother prem!" she said as she pointed to preet.
"beta, that's preet, my youngest son, not prem." gayathri said.
Meher started to speak but gayathri stopped her and turned to preet. "Preet, yeh kya keh rahi hai? tum ne zaroor kuch kiya hoga." gayathri said. Everyone turned to preet as he narrated the Holi scene and how he tricked meher afterwards. Both families laughed heartily, even stuck up veera. Meher fumed with anger and turned red from embarrassment. She spent the rest of night not talking to anyone. Preet slid next to her and whispered in her ear, "Sorry." Meher turned to him and said "Sorry doesnt even begin to cut it!" Preet said, "oh come on, it was a little funny and plus you started it!!!" Meher whipped back,"I did not! and it wasn't that funny!" Preet looked at her incredulously and she finally smiled.

Weeks passed and the wedding date was set for four months later. Meher had gotten along easily with all the family members, except veera who was very rude to meher. Preet and meher became good friends and started pranking the family, especially prem-heer( the lovebirds as they put it). The junejas moved into their own house. However, two months before the marriage, Balraj got really sick. Meher took him to the doctor and they found out he had stage two lymphoma( blood cancer). Meher was devastated and crying uncontrollably. Balraj made her promise that she would not tell anyone until after Heer's wedding. Meher sobbed but agreed. She and Balraj would leave the house under false pretense for his treatment.

One day meher was sitting on her terrace crying when preet walked by. He came and sat next to meher, she didn't realize he was sitting there. He snapped his fingers in front of her and she jumped, "arrey preet, tum kab aye?" meher said startled. Preet was about to tell her he had been there for a while, but decided to find out the reasons for her tears. He touched her cheek and wiped her tear, "tum kyun rohrahi thi?" preet said. "Arrey, kuch nahi Preet, bas woh di ki shaadi ho rahi hai na." Preet looked at her and said, "mmmm, nahi. Tum jhoot bol rahi ho."
Meher tried to protest but instead she ended up crying. Preet cradled her in his arms and tried to hush her. Balraj observed this from afar and got happy. He felt like meher would now be taken care of as well. [COLOR=brown][/COLOR][FONT=Times][/FONT]
