Chapter 64
Getting dressed for the shoot and then having to walk up the hill was not at all easy. Veronika Hammond and Alexis were moving in and out of the large hall that doubled as a lobby in the castle. The large truck parked outside had the clothes. The huge French windows in the hall were opened out to the lawn. There was a slight warm breeze. Heer and her two sidekicks were being as fast as they could. Dressing with practised ease. The trials had been a help. Time was of the essence. They needed to be up on that hill at the right time to catch the right light.
Suddenly Prem came in through the doors. He trained his eyes on all three models. He was, as usual, not happy with the first attempt. There were raised voices, frazzled nerves. Heer didn't appreciate being ordered to hurry up.
"Prem! We are moving as fast as we can. You should have thought this out a bit more! We have to cart ourselves up the hill now. I'm not looking forward to it!"
"It's just you and what you're wearing. That's all you have to cart up there. I'm not asking for the moon am I?"
The arguing continued, so did the dressing. Veronika pronounced that it was all done and walked out, hoping the others would follow.
The two models, who were by now used to being the onlookers, didn't budge, while Prem tried to be helpful and moved a wisp of hair away from Heer's collar. The past weeks of pent up frustration burst through the dam and Heer launched into a tirade. Prem was treated to a lecture on how his arrogance and complete disregard for his colleagues had inconvenienced everyone and how she couldn't believe that Hardikar and Fari had accommodated him and given him everything he demanded. Prem had heard enough and motioning to the other two he led the way outside.
"I'm talking to you!"
But Heer was forced to follow the rest out into the garden and across the lawn.
Meanwhile, on another hillock, facing the shoot location, a quarter of a mile away, Fari and Hardikar were ensconced in two rather posh deck chairs. A nearby tree offered some shade. The castle staff had laid out afternoon tea on a plaid blanket in the grass. Cucumber sandwiches, various canapes, mocktails and plenty of crushed ice. Fari had her binoculars permanently glued to her eyes. Hardikar noisily dredged the last of her mocktail through a straw.
"Ooh! There they are. They seem to be going to the spot now." Fari reported to Hardikar.
"And?"
"Ooh! This reminds me of Jane Eyre!"
"Fari, don't get your classics mixed up. You were supposed to be Emma and get these two married."
"No but this scene is Jane Eyre!"
"Why? What's happening?"
"Get your own binoculars!"
"Why should I when you are watching them like a hawk and reporting to me?"
"Is there no limit to your stinginess?"
"This isn't stinginess. It's just plain common sense!"
"Prem is leading the rest like the Pied Piper....haha!.....closely followed by an angry Heer"
"Good God! Angry Heer? This doesn't sound good."
"The two sidekicks are following Heer and Veronika is trying to follow. Why do designer chicks think that the whole world is a ramp and try to walk in heels everywhere?"
Hardikar was munching on sandwiches now.
"Ok finally they are at the spot. Prem is walking round and round and Heer is stalking him and saying something."
"Are they still arguing? The sun will go down if they don't hurry."
................................................................................................
"This is the last time I will be manipulated Prem! The last time!"
"Heer, I really don't think this is the right time."
"Oh you don't? Well who cares?!!"
Heer's voice was so loud that it must have carried over the hills.
Prem got hold of Heer by the shoulders and spun her around. He made her face the opposite hill and pointed at Fari and Hardikar.
"Do it for them!"
...................................................................................
"Amu........."
"What?"
"Prem is pointing at us."
"Lemme see!"
"Get your own binoculars!"
.......................................................................................................
Heer was winded for a second. But the sight of those two soon got her yelling again. By now Veronika had made it up there and Alexis had also joined them. The two sidekicks watched anxiously. Even they now realised that they were running out of time. The sun would lose the afternoon glow. Prem on the other hand looked calm. His earlier nerves and restlessness had gone. He put his hands on his waist and waited for Heer to cool down. He gave her a level look. She looked at him. Yes he knew that she wouldn't let them all down. Yes, he knew that this wasn't over. And yes, he was prepared to lose this opportunity to take some great pictures, if that's what she really wanted. The wordless communication happened in seconds.
Heer posed for Prem.
