I was supposed to update this yesterday, I know, but my laptop battery died on me. :( And I couldn't find a plug point til I actually got home, and then I barely got time to use the laptop because I had to study. Which I still do, but I thought I'd update first. Hopefully, I remember to update this sooner, because it's actually complete. 😆
Enjoy part 2!-||-
"Arre Geet, tu yahaan?" Gayatri looks so happy to see her. If she were anyone else, she would feel guilty for deceiving the woman but considering that Gayatri had a hand in her best friend's misery she is hard pressed to keep her disgust from showing on her face.
Geet plasters a smile on her face. "Namastey," she folds her hand. "Is Meher home?"
The smile on Gayatri's face drops. Geet wonders how no one else sees the hatred this sham of a woman has for the Maans. "Meher?" she repeats, voice hard, but just barely. "Meher kyun?"
"Woh -" Geet falters before remembering what she had heard about the younger woman. "Woh maine sunna tha ke Meher ko catering ke bare mein kafi kuch pata hai toh main socha ke main uski madad lu."
"Acha," Gayatri nods, though there is a wary look in her eyes. She calls for Meher. Geet's heart goes out for the girl, whose eyes hold pain at the thinly veiled anger directed at her.
"Meher," she grins at her best friend's younger sister. "Will you come with me to help, please?"
Under the hawk-eyed gaze of her mother-in-law, Meher can only nod. Geet enthusiastically pulls her out of the house. Once they're in her car, she drops the hyper act. Meher embraces the quiet, not asking any questions until they pass the dhabba she mentioned to Gayatri.
"Wasn't that it?" Meher asks, baffled.
"Yup," Geet casts a glance at her passenger. "But we're not going there."
"Kya?" Meher is utterly flummoxed. "Toh phir hum kaha jaa rahey hain?"
"Preet's office," Geet answers. "I need to talk to the two of you." She turns into a back lane, having figured out this short cut long ago. "It's about Prem."
Meher opens her mouth to ask more, but Geet stops her. She informs Meher that she only wants to tell this story once. Meher settles back into her seat, trying to keep a handle on her curiousity.
Geet's lips curl upwards when she hears Meher's muttered 'Finally!" when they pull into the carpark. She debates taking her time to park the car but casts away that thought just as easily. It is imperative that she disclose the full story to Meher as Preet as soon as possible, because she needs their help.
They can stop her marriage to Prem Juneja. They can stop her becoming the new Juneja bahu. They can stop her taking Heer's place.
