Part 19 :
Next Morning:
The sun rises and the sounds of the birds chattering away can be heard. Two white doves come and sit by Heers Window. Heer gets up, stretching her arms. Its a day before she is to get married to Rishabh. In one day time, the junejas will be happy. She looked at her watch and realized it was nearing 4 am.
She gets up and puts her chin on her knees looking at her bare hands. In a couple of hours, there will be a mehndi ceremony, which she cant get out of. She wonders the irony of the situation. Its her mehndi ceremony and the day happens to fall on karwa chaut!!
Damn it, she says. Trust that Rishabh to come up with something like this. Ok, Main bhi dekhtee hoon, woh mere haathon main mehndi kaise lagata hain and karwa chaut, for him - never.
She gets up and puts her gown, standing by the window. She notices the doves by the window. It was the first time these doves were pertched by the window after prems death, her thoughts going to her memories with prem.
Flashback
Prem was in his room and was dressed in white. Come, lets go, heer has remarked. Tumhare haathon main mehndi dalwane. Mehndi, remarked heer. Haan Heer, Mehndi, dekho kal karwa chaut hain.
Heer - haan to. Prem - to tum mere liye karwa chaut ka vrat rakhogee.
Heer - Karwa Chaut, prem, thats for married girls right.
prem - haan, par humaree to shaadi aaj nahin to kal ho jayegee, so my dear, you are keeping a karwa chaut vrat, puts his arms around heer and smiles.
Heer - theek hai, main nahin khatee, rakhoongee vrat, par tumhe bhi mere liye vrat rakhna hoga.
prem - aapka hukam sar aankhon par.
They hug and he kisses her forehead.
Heer is awakened from her thoughts. She realizes its 4 am and time for sargi. She goes to the kitchen. Everyone sees Heer coming and make sniggering comments.
Gayatri is making preparing sargi for heer when daljeet comes and throws that plate.
Daljeet - aaye maharani aaye, bas aapka hi intezaar tha. Sargi aa gayee na, sasural se. Heer is silent and gets to sit. She sits and waits. Its 4:30 am and everyne leaves. Once everyone has left, Heer bends down and eats the sargi that has fallen down, a silent tear falling from her cheek.
Its 6 am and the door bells. Is Gaurav Sharma, with his assistant. Preet opens the door and takes them towards the outhouse. This is where you will stay, says he. Sara intezaam kar liya hain. Gaurav looks around. If he has tears in his eyes, he does not show it. After all this place has a lot of pleasant memories for him.
Hours pass by and the assistant set about, doing their work. They have been instructed on what to do as Gaurav will watch them.
In the afternoon, its time for the mehndi ceremony. Heer is dressed in an elegant green satin and net lehnga, with red embroidery all over. Her blouse is a simple one but cut sleeves , in satin There are matching ruby and emerald earning and necklace to match. Make up is minimal with just a mascara and kajal highlighting her eyes.
If everyone is unhappy, they dont show it. The girls all put the mehndi and heer has to get hers done. While the mehndi ceremony is going on, heers thoughts go to when prem had put mehndi on her.
She is awakened from her thoughts when she is asked the name of the husband. R should be intial says Rishabhs Mother. The mehndi walee is making the intials when ashlesha comes and sits admiring the mehndi. In a fun and game event, she brushes against the mehndi walee that the R becomes a P.
Every one is aghast and Heer is left shocked staring at the Mehndi.
Rishabh is furious and drags heer to get her hands washed. RR is taking Heer from one end and Gayrav is walking from the other end. Some body calls Rishabh as there are some guests looking for him. Heer enters the outhouse, without realizing where she is. She goes to the washroom sobbing and falls on the ground. Gaurav enters the outhouse. Its dark and thinking some one in inside, Heer gets up to go out , only to collide into Gaurav on the way out.
Gaurav - Sorry - woh andhera tha, dekha nahin.
Heer is shocked as she remembers the first time she met prem was similiar to this.
