Two men linked to the firing outside actor Disha Patani’s residence in Bareilly were killed in an encounter near Tronica City, Ghaziabad, on Wednesday, officials confirmed.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Delhi Police Special Cell, Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), and Haryana STF. The accused, identified as Ravinder from Rohtak and Arun from Sonipat, were said to be active members of the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar gang.
According to a senior officer of the Special Cell, both had a direct role in the Bareilly firing incident on September 12, when unidentified assailants fired several rounds outside Patani’s residence around 3.45 am. The episode caused alarm in the locality and was viewed as a possible extortion-related intimidation attempt targeting high-profile individuals.
Officials said the joint team intercepted the duo in Tronica City after gathering intelligence inputs and tracking movement across states. In the exchange of fire that followed, both Ravinder and Arun sustained critical injuries. They were taken to a hospital where they were declared dead. One Special Cell personnel was also injured during the encounter.
UP Police’s Additional Director General (Law and Order), Amitabh Yash, said that identification of the shooters was possible after analysing CCTV footage, cross-checking records, and using technical surveillance. Ravinder, son of Kallu, a resident of Kahni in Rohtak, and Arun, son of Rajendra, from Indian Colony in Sonipat, were confirmed to have longstanding criminal links. Ravinder, in particular, had been named in multiple previous cases.
The ADG added that both men were closely associated with the Rohit Godara–Goldy Brar syndicate, which has been under scrutiny for its network spanning Haryana, Punjab, and western Uttar Pradesh. Police recovered a Glock pistol, a Zigana pistol, and several cartridges from the site. Investigations are ongoing to track other members of the gang who remain absconding.
The Bareilly incident had earlier prompted swift directives from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who instructed police to take immediate action, reiterating the state’s “zero tolerance” stance on organised crime. With two prime suspects now eliminated, security agencies are focusing on dismantling the wider network and preventing further attempts to target public figures through intimidation.
