If I remember right it was sometime in March this year that Jay announced that he was quitting KYM. Five months later we still see him around as Neev, not just being a prop as he was during most of the PIM track, but playing a crucial role of helping Prachi by assisting a PA affected Milsi remember his wife, then by protecting Milsi from his attacker, and now by trying to unravel the mystery killer of Ayesha and thereby free Milsi from a prison term. Whatever be the track, Neev is always in the thick of things. At one point he was shot in his spine and was even given up as dead. We thought that Jay's character has ended but Prachi's screams seems to have given him a new lease of life. So the moot question is, is Jay quitting at all and what will be the future of Neev? Jay himself has clarified he is indeed quitting and his role has just been extended for some time. He also said that there will be no replacement for Neev. What could be the reason for Jay's extended stay in KYM? This is my theory.
1. The producers know that Jay has his share of fan following and although Michi are the USP of the show, they cannot afford to lose Jay now when the trps are moving all around and are not as stable as before. Morever, the competition from the rival channel has also heated up. Losing one of their main leads could only make things more difficult for them;
2. Jay cannot afford to antagonise the producers, given their clout in the industry. Moreover, the only other show he is presently engaged in (KJBKT) is also being produced by them. So, it would be like shooting oneself in the foot to now demand that they let him go;
3.Coming to the show itself (KJBKT) which is a reality show where viewer's votes count for 50 per cent of the decision to retain somebody in the show or eliminate them, it helps to be in the limelight rather than cool one's heels in the sidelines, for after all viewer's memory is short.
4.Winning in KJBKT will fulfill Jay dreams of making it to Bollywood.
5. Jay has been given opportunity to show case his talent by getting to play different shades in the last few months unlike in the beginning of the show.
So with both the parties benefitting from Jay's continuance in the show, we get to see Neev around for much longer than we thought he would be. How long will he be here is anybody's guess. I think even he is not sure just how long. One thing is clear, though, he would not want to burn his bridges with BT by insisting that they let him go. Anyway we are only too happy that he is there to continue entertaining us. Wish they introduce an Ayesha look-alike and start a romantic track with him and this new character.
